You should. They're really good. I'm not bluffing. They're a lot denser and more adult than the base text, but they're genuinely interesting and grounded character studies of the gods, and they elaborate really well on the themes of narrative control in Homestuck proper.

@@Don1sir I wholly disagree. They act somewhat differently because its been over a decade and theyre in different circumstances, but all their actions track with their source selves in my opinion.

@@DARE0451 im still not that big of a fan, I feel like it assassinates some of the character's charm and personality, such as dirk becoming the person he promised not to to be and Jane acting more and more like The Condesce. Its cool and all that they grew up but what was done removed all the charm that made the fandom like them

@@Don1sir I can understand being upset about those developments if you were especially attached to those characters, but personally speaking I loved how those characters evolved. The epilogues were written during a very specific time in american and global history, with fascism on the rise. I think most people at this point have had to watch in horror and eventually cut off a friend as someone you cared about and had a lot in common with as a teenager starts giving in to their worst impulses and sliding down the fascist rabbit hole. I think being frustrated with where the characters ended up can make some sense. But I do get a bit irked when people claim "they wouldn't do that". For Dirk, he's literally not even the Dirk we knew. Maybe its true and the Dirk we followed in Homestuck wouldn't do these things exactly, but he's now Every Dirk. Including Bro, including Lil Hal, and upon extension, Literally Lord English. With that in mind, and especially considering his past flaws, his actions make sense even WITHOUT the time jump, metanarrative elements, and political allegory. And as for Jane, well. The first thing we see her do in the comic is plan to privatize the mail service, when the mail service has been, throughout the whole comic, a metaphor for freedom, justice, and proletarian interests. The last thing we see her do in the comic is ESTABLISH CAPITALISM. If you wanna argue Jane's evil in post-canon is unrealistic, you have to admit it started with the end of the comic proper, because that's nothing but a villainous move. And as for the bit I've seen get the most people's goats, and CW for discussion of the rape parts of the epilogue and homestuck so just skip the rest of the comment if that's not okay for you, but: she's always been disregarding of other people's wishes, been controlling. and on top of that, when she was mind controlled to serve the condesce through the tiara, the first thing she really did For Herself was keep jake as a brood slave. disregarding consent when in a position of power is entirely consistent with her behavior in the comic all that said though, again, i do totally understand if certain choices made it Not For You.

This is partially wrong. Hussie did in fact write a chunk of the epilogues as well as a scene-by-scene outline of the entire thing, including this chapter, he hired fans to give the outline life.

The Epilogues are not a good read, but I read them anyway. I do not enjoy the ways they misrepresent the characters, but I enjoy the examination of the nature of canon and the "death of the author" themes. This also applies to Homestuck^2 but I enjoy the writing there a bit more.

Let me spell it out for you: THEY ARE IN THE WORLD OF FAN FICTION You have one timeline authored by Calliope, the in-universe personification of the fandom, and the other headed by Ultimate Dirk, a Dirk made up of every splintered version of Dirk, which includes the fragment of himself that made up part of Lord English. Lord English being the adult form of Caliborn, creator of HOMOSUCK. What did Homosuck do? Misrepresented all the characters and forced weird fetishy pairings. Why? Because that's what happens in the world of shitty fan fiction. One trip to Ao3 will give you no end of experiences identical to the horror of that Vriska x Gamzee section, because said section is based on said deluge of fan fiction. Why did the characters enter the world of fan fiction following the end of Homestuck? Because the only place where characters continue to exist after their canonical story has ended, IS FAN FICTION. What is Ultimate Dirk's goal? To return to CANON. Why? Because he has seen the horrors of fan fiction first hand and wants NONE OF IT. He's on the same page as YOU the reader.

Don't It's fun at first, but then you get to the trolls, it becomes long and hard to read through with blocks of text that don't matter to the story but have ONE part that was important to the story. You sit reading wishing that get to the part you actually liked about the comic, you don't even know why your still reading it, but then you get to a part that is really engaging and fun that reminds you why you are reading the comic, and then it gets really boring again.

Simplest I can explain it is: Girl on the left wants to be in a poly relationship with the two guys. She starts flirting with the guy in the middle, eventually trying to put her fingers in his mouth. He bites her (which was deserved) and she gets mad.

My interpretation was always that both timelines are "fanfic", it's just that Meat is the grim darkfic timeline and Candy is the screwball shipfic timeline.
