A perfect video all around! Great photography, editing, and of course, great subject matter! This was very enjoyable to watch. The most satisfying part of the whole video was watching the lifters slide down into their bores in s.l.o.w. motion :) A well oiled part in a perfectly fitted bore! I hope your New Year is filled with glorious noise from those pipes!
Thank you very much Tommy, glad you enjoyed the video, we thought it was a fitting end to the project to re-cap the engine build from 2yrs ago. I used specially saved footage to create an end-to-end upload from approx. 3 months at the start of the project... happy with how it turned out and it also helps to realise how much better the bike looks now after a full restoration. Have a Happy New Year and thanks for your support!
Dang, 28 minutes for a whole engine upgrade. I'm gonna have to ask my Harley dealer why it took 3 weeks to swap out my cam chain tensioner and lifters 🤣
3 weeks?!?! I did a complete S&S 509 cam chest in my '02 Super Glide in like a day and a half. You'll hear 3 hrs, 4hrs. Not when you do all the cleaning on the motor that S&S tells you to do for their warranty. Your dealer is either really backed up or slower than shit.
Lovely job, as always, my friend! You always mention "if you need a tool, make a tool." You gotta love the use of a bullet casing for a hole punch! GENIUS! I'm gonna steal that idea! Hope you & Miss Penny have a rockin' 2024! ...LM&R
Thought you'd like that, they always tell us to recycle so I couldn't think of a better solution when I needed some ready made 5/16 holes to drop the bolts in... Not sure if NATO approves them for that.. but it works brother..lol! Stay safe both of you and have asafe and peaceful '24 too D&Px
Thanks for this series. It has been very educational and inspiring. Extra fun because just before your start I bought an XL1200C - 2003. Happy New Year from Sweden.
Love watching you work Del, not done much tinkering on my bike since my bike accident 4 years ago, not ridden a bike either !. Have a 2003 sportster custom that I want to convert to mid controls and spoked wheel on rear, this is inspiring me , used to watch you all the time in the past ,thanks and look after yourself.
Thank so much mate, and welcome back.. i hope you're fully recovered from the accident now, what a shame it kept you off the bike for so long. . Good luck with getting it back on the road, they're pretty robust and timeless, so shouldn't be any real dramas...
Looks good. Must be one of the few harleys I like!! Not sure if you caught it on faceache, but I now have a 4th xj900s diversion in a deep navy blue. Shes called JaZell.. and staying pretty much as standard apart from Front calipers, rear shock, brake fluid and some fixes she needs. Hope you both have a Fab new years eve. I'll drink to both your healths and fingers crossed pop by the workshop in the new year.
My word.. Another one?.. there'll be none left for anyone else.lol! Take care and enjoy the festivities yourself mate.. and maybe catch you in the new year.. but make sure you give us some notice this time aye !
Good idea to have the whole project again in one film. Great result. And great to watch you over the shoulder. Happy New Year to both of you!
Super nice !! Made it look soo easy !! But… I know there’s struggle here and there… I’m kinda surprised there’s more stuff on heads, gaskets and all. Video director did great job with lot’s patience and dedication plus details in areas. Awesome 👍🤟🏻
Thank you for such kind words, glad you enjoyed the video, it just felt like a fitting way to round off the project by just re-capping the big mammoth job at the beginning as that's the furthest away part of the build... Take care and have a Happy New Year, D&Px
I don't really like Harleys... BUT I have to say how well designed and engineered this motor looks! And full cudos to the mechanic for his skills, care, and knowledge of what he's doing.
Hiya Penny and Del - great recap video! It was nice to see all of the hard work in one place. Take care, dear friends. Be well, ride safe... and all the best of the season to you!
Thank you so much buddy.. it was made from some specially saved footage from the first three months of the build, just to be able to recap in this way at the end.. like you say, all in one place, a condensed run through of a heck of a lot of work..! Take care and enjoy the New Year celebrations.. won't be sorry to see the back of this one..! Stay safe aye.. D&Pxx
Hey Del! Thank you for these videos. I found them right after I bought a 2000 sportster! The more I dig into the bike though the more I realize all that’s been customized. What would you say is the best way to tell if my bike has been converted to a 1200 kit??
That's pretty easy mate, if you're in the UK I'm presuming, just go online and check the MOT history and it'll tell you what engine size it was at first MOT at 3yrs old... also, DVLA will have a record of the change if it's recorded on the V5 as a 1200 and was previously 883, and if you're not in the UK, then you could check the engine number, am sure there's plenty of online information, perhaps even with your local main dealer to find out what it is... just a case of doing a bit of research mate.
Great video brother !!! This project was one of my favorites since around that time I got my first Harley Davidson ever , my sporster !! Learned so much from you brother !!!! Keep up the great work !!! Stay safe guys cheers from New York !!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That's great to hear Renzo, we're so glad we're able to help around the world, especially the beautiful NYC! Have a wonderful 2024, lots more planned, D&Px
I don't care for anything Harley... having said that, I must also say that you are quite good at what you do and have excellent building skills. You made me appreciate a Harley Davidson for the first time. Bravo.
I'm just starting this video and I have to admire your "No oil" flag on the reservoir. 😊 I like that you're not talking over the vid, it keeps the focus and concentration on what you're doing
people have sentimental values as well as values added to a particular piece of machinery which has worked tremendously well throughout its life and if that could be improved then it should be improved.
Looking back at this as a whole picture again, wow! what a transformation! Puts it back into a bit more perspective, for sure. The tool ASMR is the crowning touch :) Hope you are having an awesome Christmas holiday, and all the best for 2024!
Thank you for noticing the work that's gone in to this video, we thought it a nice way to finish the project until the weather breaks and I can get out... glad you enjoyed it, and we both appreciate all your support, wishing you a very Happy New Year, D&Px
Thanks mate, what a year it's been, can't believe another one's gone by... really must get out and ride more... when the rain stops lol Wishing you a Happy New Year, and thanks for all your support, D&Px
how does the 1200 bore kit work with the 833 engine? is the gearbox, crank etc the same as the stock 1200s? seems like you would be adding undue stress to the rest of the engine, but maybe im wrong. i know all those upgrades to the M8 wind up chewing up the stock gearboxes etc.
The only difference between the 883 and 1200 engines other than the pistons and pots.. was the front primary sprocket.. they're smaller on the 883 to give lower gearing to help it pull away with so much less power...Other then that, it's the same bottom end! and this then gives a lower geared 1200, making it a lot of fun to ride. (which incidentally, is what the factory decided to do on the XR1200, by using the 883 crank sprocket, they made the better performance figures they wanted for that model.!
What’s the difference between the hk for the 883 and 1200? I think the 883 has something like 54 hk or something? I’m looking for my first bike atm, I was going to buy a adventure touring bike but I tried a 883 sportster (2006) yesterday and I fell in love with it, I love the smaller frame of it but I felt it was lacking some power! They wanted €4.4k for it and it had only 20k kilometers on it. I’ve found a 2004 883 that has had a conversion to 1200 and it only has 12k kilometers on it for €5.5k but it’s a 3 hour drive there so I need to read up on it before I’m going there (and most likely end up buying it) but if it has a little more omph to it than the 883 then I’m sold!
@@Leonard-kd7uj I ended up buying a xl sportster 1200 instead of the converted 883 and I love it! Screaming eagle has a sweet sound but I had to switch to the original sound or I would wake the whole neighborhood when going for a ride lol
@eak666 think you made the right decision noise wise I have a 2013 street bob with vance and hines if I plan a early ride push her out of my road before starting glad you like your new bike ride safe
That's a nice conversion you did there Del, it makes me miss riding my 1200 custom who is just sitting in my garage at the moment. I definitely need to give some TLC before putting it back on the road.
Dear Mr. Delboy, I admire your precise work. May I ask if remap after the 883 to 1200 S&S conversion is required immediately or is better to be done after the break in period. It is 2011 sportster and kit includes cylinders and pistons? Is there a risk for the engine to overheat if make the break in without remap? Can the VH4 fuelpack do the remap instead of Dyno? Thank you in advance and best wishes from Bulgaria.
Yes i would always remap an EFI motor after the 1200 upgrade, you'll want to best benefits of all that investment, and if you get it set up by a dyno shop you really will enjoy the best advance in power and performance !
You have to adjust your ignition timing properly.... otherwise the engine can be damaged... vh4 could be your friend but imho better powervision... otherwise bring your ride to a prof
Harley BARELY gives you enough clearance for the rear rocker box cover to slip out and back in. ON my 2000 XL the cover has to be turned exactly right to get it out. Thanks to whatever Harley engineer designed that section of the frame. NOT! 🤬
Another find video … I’m curious why you cut out the bottom of the trans case ?Is this your speedy hell raiser or an excuse for a run to the grocery store.I sometimes do this to the wife lol forget little stuff .Oh really hunny did we forget that…lol
i don't see your Sporty anymore in your garage... have already sold her?... i couldn't wait to se you riding that holistic product of many, many hours of your fine crafwork
Sure thing Paul, and being 25% more cubes, they'll be hauling horses not wizzing horses... So it's all Torque !! and everyone know there's nowt like more displacement in the basement lol!
@@Moonfleet41 I have a 1986 1st year Evo Sportster, that was converted by 50 year Certified H-D Tech, his personal bike! It has been lowered, lighten, 140 rear tire, 4 speed chain, S&S carb, it has all 1998 tin, Sun Wheels, etc. I've owned flatheads, panheads, 76 KZ 900, 78 Z1R 1000, & the 86 Sporty is my favorite! I bought this bike in 1998, when I was 48, rode it to Laconia a week later? I am now 75, & I still have the bike? I've ridden a few XLCH Strokers over the years, I think my Bike is more peppy? My understanding is when the 883 & 1200 come down the assembly line, the engines do not get balanced? When you take your 883 to a reputable engine builder, He balances everything, to make your 1200 smooth?? Just Sayin??
It's a straightforward process, just simple assembly of basic parts, just a case of being careful and knowing the anatomy of those parts before you start... we're glad you enjoyed!
Loved this, Del! A phenomenal project and some superb video production work. Do you think the conversion gives her more HP or torque? Happy New Year! 🏍️👍🏍️
Hi Gary, it was a lot of work to carry out the conversion and almost as long to edit it in to one movie! I imagine it gives a fair few more horsepower, but that means more revs and it won't rev any faster, but it is around 25% more torque and makes a noticeable difference on low down grunt. Happy New Year buddy.
@waatao9856 just got a pic with the cylinders on my bike! It's 2200 including a larger pulley. No, an 883 is an 883. A bargain considering try to double the power of your car for 2200. With a warrantee.
This is exactly how it goes in My head. Meanwhile in reality - S%#T, F^#K, Damn it, CRAP, WTF, WHY, OH COME ON REALLY ! Where did this bolt come from ?
I agree Brian.. so much is that a known thing, that the factory even adopted it for the XR1200.. they had the 883 front sprocket in the primary..! Now the bike is actually finished, im looking forward to riding in once the weather breaks..
@@Moonfleet41 it honestly does spank a natural 1200 to 60, it will rev a bit higher on the highway but I am all about power you can use I don’t need to do 100 lol
Gotta love sns parts. Is this an older video Del?. Didnt you have shotgun pipes on their?....either way sounds really good man. Were those different cams or just stock?... Love your channel Del, thumbs up every video man. I hope you never stop videos man, your channel is one of my favorites, and i dont have to many favorites, maybe 4 or 5 motorcycle related.
Thank so much Michael, this was special footage, saved from key points at the beginning of the build when i did the engine upgrade first.. i always wanted to make a single engine build video from the start.... it spans over the first three months, and hopefully is a nice round off to those who have enjoyed the project all the way through.. Thank you so much for your kind and loyal support..
In my humble opinion, the best channel on RU-vid. Brilliant series. I sincerely hope you and Penny had a great Christmas and wishing you both a happy & healthy new year.
Hmm, Hours spent editing, to hours of filming ratio? = 3 to 1? / 5 to 1? / The wee small hours & a ruptured cockerel to 1? The cost of all this skill & dedication may be judged by the overriding guilt of not buying her enough top quality chocolate. And it started first time, smooth as a single malt . . . sickening! How they live with the shame of perfection escapes me . . . May tingly bum-vibes & the ravages of unbridled affluence infest you both all year round, starting now. (1st kick! . . 'Git' : )xx
Good evening Sir.. don't know what the ratio was, but this one was two years in the making, footage captured over the first 3 months of the build, and the very latest part of the budget. Always good to hear from you and we hope you're having the best Christmas time.. Take care and stay safe.. with love and best wishes from both of us.. D&Pxx
