Got Clutch Slip on your Harley? Fix it once and for all. For this live tech talk we discuss the installation and tech tips about the Compmaster Clutch from American Prime Manufacturing for your Harley Davidson or other American Twin.
I'm going on my 3rd year of hard use, bracket racing, and street riding with this clutch and an Evolution Industries basket that I purchased through Kevin with zero issues. 100% recommend!
I've watched several videos on replacing clutches. I ended up replacing mine right before it went out. I used Barnett performance clutch and springs. This was one of the best upgrades that did.
Just took mine apart to install the APM clutch and new hub bearing. The existing splines were breaking off destroying everything. This may have also contributed to the compensator going out with all the metal grit in the oil. Dark horse crank, APM clutch and bearing are nearing the $1000 mark. Glad I don't have to pay labor too. Thanks for the video. I got all the parts on your recomendation and am looking forward to many years of performance.
I put in a Barnett extra plate Kevlar in my 04 ultra really like it.but if I had some more horsepower I would install that clutch really nice looking piece
Kevin, what tonnage hydraulic press do you recommend for press work such as this? 6?, 12?, 20? Any info you can provide a new aspiring motorcycle mechanic is appreciated. 😌
What would cause the clutch adjuster to back out? I just put a trask billet basket on my bike and it has a wobble too. I did put a new bearing In it and supported it when pressing it in so I didn’t mess it up. I do wheelies and I can ride around and it’s fine go to dump the clutch and it just spits out the adjuster. It’s done it twice now and both times I snugged the lock nut down pretty good. 13 dyna street bob.
Primo only recently started producing again. For about 3 years they weren't producing, wouldnt answer the phone or return calls, and were nearly out of business. What you heard is 100 percent incorrect. Every single component sold and manufactured by American Prime is US made.
i sure wish i lived up by u i am positive i want u to redo my 07 police roadking frist then my 14 ultra i love to watch your videos onreal the knoglege youhave you fore sure are my choice for my girls
When I ride my 2014 triglide for approx 20 miles and motor heats up clutch goes out. When I stop bike stalls. When very thing calls, the clutch works again for about 10 miles. Whsts my problem.
kevin hope all well buddy ! just wondering how long will a properly adjusted clutch last and are there ways to tell if your clutch is wearing out without taking it apart and looking at the plates. my 99 road king has 46 k and has been meticulously taken care of by the previously owner and not sure if i should tinker with it i have adjusted it but i get the feeling it may be wearing the bike seems to kinda wind up if you get my drift although the bike has been highly modified and has a great deal more horsepower ,torque and compression and i'm thinking about changing it out to one of these clutches from your video
I have a question about using transmission fluid, though the clutch Mfg states that there clutch works best with transmission fluid, what about the rest of the primary components? do you get accelerated wear on primary chain adjuster. And do you get accelerated wear on the compensator assembly. Is the lubrication characteristics sufficient for the newer compensator ie bearing and compensator ramps?
I am sure Harley Davidson has a new clutch system that has a lot less parts and the drama that comes with it. It appears HD has not had a reason to design out all the problems out of their design over the last 20 years until now here in 2021.
Hi. Im having problems with my chutch. Same model as the vídeo. I mix the order of the separation plates. I know the thick one is The first, but I dont remember The others order. Can you tell me. I think I have 1 thick, 4 medium and 3 thin ones. Can you help me with this order?
Was that a stock chain tensioner you put back in Kevin? I need to figure out which tensioner to put in my Dyna. Ever work with Southern OR Hot Bikes tensioner?
I saw him say yes, and that he liked the OR Hot Bike tensioners on another video. Answering this same question from another viewer comment to be clear.
Hi Kevin. I recently swapped the clutch basket on my 17 breakout. I re used the plates ect. From my original basket. I’m 99% sure all was installed in the correct order. When I adjusted the clutch. The lever was hard. I heard a clunk/bang. And thought the cable broke at the trans side cover. It did not. And all appeared normal once I pulled that side cover. I’ve backed off the clutch basket adjustment etc. wound it in and out. And readjusted. To no avail. I’m at a loss as to what the problem is. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thankyou in advance.
@@KevinBaxter Many aftermarket clutch manufactures recommend Type F fluid. Are you just touting the Harley party line? Going with an AM clutch changes the rules....
I've done it to squeeze every last ounce of an engine but honestly, I've never seen a repeatable or beneficial gain from doing it on the typical street pump gas hot rod build. Modern electrical systems put out a lot of juice
