He was, he is and forever will be the fantastic harmonicist of the Planet Earth!!! Franz Chmel!!! THE HARMONICIST! God is with him! From BraSil, Marcelo Batista
After so much practice for a long time with the lips and the throat to hurt...I finally could say, that I can in a way play this(and other compositions) in my harmonica (chromatic hohner 16), even this last difficult varation(7:05)...but I have still a long way to climb. But if it wasn't he I would not even start imagine that there is a way. He left this world in 2016. I will miss him.
Fans of Top Gear will get it. Anyway, this is truly one of the most impressive musical performances I've ever seen. I'm trying to get more people to watch it.
I play harmonica - only a bit, but I can sort-of knock out a tune. Because of my interest, I have listened to a lot of harmonica, largely on RU-vid, and there are some brilliant players. I'm always captivated by Edu da Gaita's Moto Perpetuo by Paganini (which took him 11 years to master), but for overall technical brilliance, I don't think there's anybody can hold a candle to Franz Chmel. He's just indescribably fantastic.
Eccellente.
amazing! Funny thing is, I just started harmonica. I had an old copy of Arban's Conservatory sitting around, so I started working through it from the beginning. I glanced ahead to CoV, and doubted anyone had done it. So cool! 5*
Hi Franz Strasbourg 1963 World Harmonica Championships - Trio Harmonia 1rst prize trios, you 1rst prize soloists and (I Think) your group Quartett Piccolo 1rst prize too (groups).Do you remember now? After I've the pleasure to see and listen you in France 1994 - Jonzac and Chelles, I was there also with Quarteto Harmonia. Best wishes, Gildo
Ciaooooo!!!
Hi Franz, are you well? Thank you for the rectification, but as I know that there are Variations on the Carnival of Venice, of the own author (Niccolo Paganini), then my mistake. Best wishes and the mistake is corrected.
Hi Franz, Thanks for your explanation, is a matter of fact that the key of E flat major, in an instrument that tunes in B flat (trumpet), corresponds to the key of F major in the harmonica, than tunes in C. Do you remember me Franz? I was the chords-player of Trio Harmonia, how are you? Best wishes, Gildo.
try the whistle technique instead of tongue blocking. you will find it much easier to do alot more with the tongue. method for chromatic harmonica by max de aloe explains it.
Hi:-) The different between Carneval by Paganini and Arban: Paganini is for Violin and Arban is for trumpet. For trumpet you can play all in original...for violin??? there are a lot of chords..and you cant play this:-))) Excuse my bad English:-)))))))))))) Franz
Hi tobymedland is a matter of fact that this piece, isn't an easy piece, but it's at least an excellent exercise. If you need help ask Franz, I'm sure that he won't deny you help. Cheers
