HarmonyOS - A copy of Android or something more? 

Just bought matepad 11. I'm still amazed how synergized their devices are to each other. I'm using nova 5T which still has google but now has hms core too. And the super device works between them. Other phone manufacturers should learn from this and make their devices synergize well.

2 years using HarmonyOS in the mate 20x. Excelent. I love it.

Huawei's super device feature is next level, moving to Huawei's ecosyatem has never been seamless, I got a nova Y90 that runs EMUI 12.1, watch GT2 pro which obviously not harmony OS, also got the freebuds 4i and lastly matepad 10.4 which is the only harmony OS in my line up, but they all integrates very well.

The IoT side of Huawei… will surprise all in the future

The issue with operating systems especially Linux and Android are drivers and a standard in ARM. You have to build a new kernel for every new device. No PCI or something similiar used for detecting hardware like on PCs to load the right drivers. Then drivers are mostly closed. Thats a real issue. Huawei uses AOSP as HAL as Android drivers are common to get by manfucturers. Huawei also does not own 100% of the drivers for their chips. So they have to rely on third party drivers which leads to this limitation. There are exceptions like the Smartwatches that run a microkernel with Huaweis own drivers (mostly).

Huawei isn't moving away from Hardware to be honest. Huawei is working harder on their hardware more than what most people think, especially their phones. Not sure how possible it will become, but it's expected 5G will resume on Huawei's phone next year, and most likely their own design chips, and possibly chips produce on their own. Definitely not 5nm or smaller yet. 14nm most likely, but it's expected its performance and power consumption is as good and better than the existing 7nm chips. But I personally highly expect lots from Huawei in 2023. My other comment for S.China Morning, they are not as profession or as knowledgeable as they used to. A lot of their news and information research is just the outer layer. They don't dig deep enough. And some of their journalist are too bias or anti-China. This all happened after Alibaba bought and owned majority of the SCMP shares.

Huawei got its legs cut out by the US that didn't allow TSMC to make chips for Huawei mobile phones using the 5nm node their Kirin chips were designed for. TSMC was using ASML EUV lithography machines to make the Kirin chips. The ASML EUV machines had US proprietary parts within them and the US forbid the ASML machines to be used to supply high end chips to China. Currently, Huawei is having some less advanced Kirin chips being made by SMIC at the 14nm node to be used for purposes other than mobile phones. But like the video said, don't call Huawei out. My impression is that Huawei is moving into semiconductor fab along several advanced approaches. Photonic chips are thought to be an area Huawei is looking to gain better performance than using smaller node silicon chips. Huawei is also researching graphene and quantum chip applications. One of the companies in Beijing, Sintone, that Huawei has invested in says they will have a photonics production line operating in 2023. Further, Huawei has said they will produce photonic chips at their Wuhan fab. I am using Huawei from p6 up to 40 pro. Huawei p40 pro is on emui 12 which very similar to hormony os and android because of Huawei didn't want to switch suddenly and differently because similarities of emui 12 to hormony and Android is more easier for consumers to use it but hormony %100 base on hormony os not related to Android I am using emui 12 I so happy better than Android only have a little issue with apps in Australia but still I got from other third-party app shop

I know this is an older video, but just as technology moves really quick, Harmony OS has built up pretty quickly and seems to be the choice for a lot of EVs coming out of China , and that's what Huawei is focusing on now. Not to mention since the release of the Kirin chip in the latest Huawei, things seem to be picking up again for them

I really wanted to come away from android and Google this time. There was a few reasons why I couldn't. 1) I needed a phone on contract quick as I didn't have the money to buy out right. 2) a few people told me harmony os isn't quite right and needed alot of work needed. In next few years I will switch back to Huawei once it worked out, Huawei in my opinion is the best although I'm now on oppo and this is a great phone 3-5 days in unfortunately it's android Google though and I believe nothing is private anymore and someone always listening weather it's Google or Alexa Something needs to change for the future so people can feel safe again if Huawei and harmony could successful people would switch over permanently this is just my opinion though

Cannot locate the "link to the South China Morning Post" which you mentioned in this video. Apple's iOS operating system, Linux, BSD OS, Android, Chromium OS and Harmony OS are all Unix-based operating systems. Linux and Android exist as officially "open source". Google has a closed source version of Android.

When Huawei is connecting people with any possible everything, the world still struggling of how to connect with faster internet. IOT is real, just that having less demanding on hardware. Nokia, Ericson may not exist on the phone, and we all using their infrastructures. Deploying HOS on everything, not just a mobile that may overprice and over spec. With the last breath of gasoline vehicle and mobility gadget, IoT OS will set the human free once again.

Many unexperienced Harmony OS users here commented like they know very well about Harmony OS🤣. Do not bring Android to compare with Harmony OS because it is still so far behind in every aspect. Especially, the os interface. IOS is similar to Harmony OS but less customization than Harmony OS such interface customization.

i have a huawei matepad 11 and im currently looking into a way to unlock bootloader and i wish they didnt lockdown this OS. They should allow the user make the decision between GMS and no warranty or HMS and keep warranty on the device. Also harmony OS vs Android performance is horrible that or the apps are horribly optimized for.

Comparing their source code, HarmonyOS and android are basically the same except HW changing some android headings and labels.

To be honest I dislike Apple or Google or Microsoft brands cause they used to over charge people for profits. They still are. So that would be better if Asian brand can shake up the market to help people to save money.

Huawei's HOS is Android base re-used and reskinned. Copying UI elements from IOS from the icons, the animations, UI style, and the unconventional layout for the control center whilst continuing to innovate and improve features and adding more useful ones to the list. Harmony OS is basically Android trying to be the better version of IOS. It's not a in-house OS. If it was, it would not be able to run Android apps. You guys have to realise that Android apps run on a specific code that dictates how things will function and interact with the user and his/her actions. If the app detects an incompatible OS, it will not run unless emulated, which is possible but, at a cost of performance. It works like a key where the teeths are the code of the app that tries to connect to the OS whilst the Padlock is the OS. If the Key is compatible with the padlock, then the key will turn. If not, it won't. And if you try to use hacks around it, it'll take more effort than it would using the specified key. So no, HOS is not a completely new OS. It's just a marketing scheme to detach users from Google and think of it as a separate OS. Many reviewers in my country really love to say that HOS is a new, custom OS, but it's not. Ironically, the same reviewers are also against fake news.
