Its weird to think that these now ancient silent movies were, at the time this tv show was made, mere nostalgia, things that everyone was expected to remember, pictures from a scant 30 years before.
I knew he was for a time head of the Shriners in the US. This program really shows how active and charitable he was for child patients. He was also a good sport, appearing on this same program for Max Sennett and Bebe Daniels.
So would i, funny fans among the big three of american silent comedy usually say that they would've find buster the easiest to meet. i'am not one of them i'm proud to say i truly assume harold was evidently the nicest and most accessible of the three. from what I read about him and buster and the little tramp.
Especially, after reading an interview about his granddaughter promoting the official dvd releases of his great comedies of the silent era. she mentioned he was very kind and patient when approached by fans.
Clear to see how much Mr. and Mrs. Llyod loved and cared for each other (and their 3 children). From every account I've read they were indeed a happily married couple right up until her death in 1969. That alone is a blessed life. Harold was also a very kind, open minded, and accepting man (read up on this son to get more info). God Bless the entire family, all 5 are gone now.
Yes, Harold was indeed a lovely man, and is very missed. Thankfully, we still have Suzanne Lloyd, the Granddaughter, who is carrying on her Grandfather Harold's legacy.
I know what you mean about his son Harold Jr. I read in one of the books about Harold Lloyd that his son was actually gay. I'm glad to have read that Harold was accepting of his son's sexuality when at the time they had to remain in the closet.

When the first time I'd seen this on july of last year. i was shocked to hear his wife's/former leading lady's voice. her voice sounded just exactly what i anticipated. so pretty like her. their marriage was one of longest and most enduring marriages in hollywood up to that time. the last film still that's shown before mrs. lloyd is introduced, isn't that from the beginning young mr. jazz 1919?. w/ bebe daniels and bud jamison as her dad ?.
They seem to omit the fact that Harold only had half of a right hand. Note that he hides his right hand throughout because he was not wearing his prosthetic thumb and index finger as this was a surprise. He somehow lost his hand in an accident - it may have been the bomb accident where the talk here is only of him nearly losing his vision. If you watch the part where Harold's wife comes out, you can see that as he goes to hug her, his right hand consists only of 3 fingers. The amazing thing about it all is that he did ALL of his movie stunts with a skin colored glove to mask his missing fingers. Read up on Harold Lloyd, it's an interesting story.
Howard Stern is the same way as Ralph Edwards. They must keep control. I think the sponsors have something to do with it, though. Plus these programs are time-sensitive, so someone has to.
That presenters' name was Ralph Edwards, and he was constantly interrupting many guests. Someone in our family at least once a week would say "Shut Up Ralph and let 'em talk".
I'm 58 and I find it odd or I guess dated values and expression as they were to use the word crippled so many times...I'm sure it was the noun then....BUT NEVER mentioned that Harold Lloyd lost his thumb and fore finger in the blast. He wore a rubber glove...and did all those stunts with 3 fingers on his right hand... I guess amputations were polite back then ;)

Apparently a significant amount of Lloyd's movies were lost for ever in a house fire. Tragic. The only serious rival to Chaplin, Lloyd's comedy relied too much on visual humour where as Chaplin adapted to sound on a more dramatic level. As far as I'm concerned, Chaplin, Lloyed, Keaton, Laurel AND HARDY were equal and a movie (silent or talkie) featuring all five stars would have been amazing!

The presenter always comes over to me as extremely nervous and is hopeless when it comes to improvised humour. He couldn't get away from the brilliant Groucho Marx quickly enough!
