I agree with you 100%, the opening of that song will blow one's mind; I believe his name is Llyold Parks...that man can sing his sweet lil petunia's off ...big ups to him.....
Can we just applaud Lloyd Parks for what he did in the beginning with tenor and falsetto, those high notes from him was everything too, Teddy’s phrasing and timing is unbelievable. His voice so soulful, he sang his face off on this record which it makes it so timeless.
Very well elaborated, those two had a special 1-2 punch, though brief, something right out of the Johnny Carter to Marvin Jr book. Happy Lloyd us still knocking them dead with his unmistakable tenor leads.
Indeed, requiescat in pace T.P. The whole group and especially that BAND is such a treat to see perform. Best bass line in all of soul music? Probably...
Problem, just like the Jheri Curl in the late 70s-80s, the PERM was in Entertainment Wise sometimes in the 70s (see Isleys and JB) . That and the Fro or Bald. Teddy went back to small fro when he went solo.
@@guyvandercruycen2830 he got a lot of backlash from the black community, saying that he wanted to be white, but check out all the blk women today and what they wear on their heads
That man doing the falsetto part really makes and carries the song. Of course Teddy's emotional delivery is heart wrenching, but when that falsetto part comes in on top, it just pierces your heart ❤️.
THIS MAKES ME PROUD TO BE BLACK AMERICAN 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 what others can't duplicate this. Give it to the world Teddy and the blue notes 🎶. Still listening 2022🧐🇺🇸
@brother shabazz right we are still Africans.....living in America! I have grown to despise that black American nonsense. We became American citizens by way of the kidnapping and enslavement, rape, erasure and torture of our ancestors and even until this very moment.
@@Nimonjeua-Ndiangang I was stolen from Africa and stripped and now you want to give it back to me after 500 years. It doesn't makes sense, Afro American or Black American. My bloodline been here before America was United States 🇺🇸📌. I'm not denying the mixture
dude all the way to the left is killing that falsetto. TP always did his thing. i love the words to this song and the falsetto is mind blowing. i appreciate greatness.
Remember when I was in high school.. my sophomore year . Me and my girl were going through some things and I sent her this video. And she sent me a text back telling me... "Why you sent me this for"?...... That's when I knew she wasn't the right one lmfaooooo 😂😂😂😂😂😂
YES! I am so thankful for postings like this! Otherwise, I would be singing them from memory but nothing like Teddy! Poetry in his moans as well! Missing Teddy! Missing Eddie! Missing Prince! Missing Michael! Missing James Brown! Missing Luther! Missing Dinah and so many of the Royal Favored Artist! ♥️♥️⭐️♥️♥️
If this does not send a grown man to his knees, nothing will. Good lord I miss her... 20 something years I still miss her... you can look in my eyes and see, that a great big man like me has been crying... I still love you Mich... with all my heart and soul...
Teddy's phrasing and timing is unbelievable. His voice is otherworldly. How do you sing it live, probably without the best monitors, better than the album version? The album version was already amazing!
Stan Lathan was literally everywhere in the 70s, 80s and beyond. This clip is historical and immediately transports me back in the day to my aunt's house in Philly at her house parties listening to WDAS. It all seemed so simple then.
I remember hearing this song when I was a kid and even then it caught my attention. And now that I’m grown I I appreciate how great they sound and how cool Teddy really is and was his voice is so unique and soulful you can’t help but admire. He rocked a perm and still would’ve left the show with anyone’s girlfriend
This is why I stay in my feelings you can’t possibly think you can grow up on pure soul music like this and be able to just accept anything! Teddy P who vibe is like pulling at my heart strings
Oh my god…this is everything. Llyod Parks and that magnificent falsetto. And lawd…Teddy P and his masterful ad libs as well as superb singing voice. Absolutely amazing.
Yes wish we can turn back the time/years really miss all of these groups vocals, horns real music and they look so good, black is beautiful. Good days Good times...good memories..RIP Teddy bear and others 😘⚘
I had an aunt that was such a huge fan of TP. Sadly beast cancer took her from us, but while she sick my mother (her sister) would always play TP when she was sick from treatments and feeling down. This stuck with everyone in the family and TP soon came to represent my aunt and her life. She left behind two sons who came to live with us after she was gone and we grew up like brothers. When TP died it hit all of us like a family member was killed. When we get together now TP is always in heavy rotation. Few years ago I was struck down cold with depression and TP would always be a form of comfort for me. My love for TP is more than an artist, but rock on soft ground - healing for a sick heart - warmth for a cold world - my aunt. Thank you for the post.
i was born in the 70's nd boy o boy I loved that era of music...soulful music from the heart wasn't about sex killing nd drugs like now.... I miss it😔😔😔😔
I was born in 75... But I was raised up with families and friends who were both races, I heard jazz, blue's, R&B, funk and more.. I used to work in a Bar and grill, the owners were an older black couple and they always played the classic soul of the late 60s and 70s.. My mind is open to everyone and everything
Yeah, thank goodness that was short-lived. I never saw it before. I just remember the regular, longish cut he had and then the beard. That is one haircut that has thankfully gone out of fashion.
21footxpress ... I Have NEVER Seen TP Like This Before...IT’s Like WTF Is Going On Here??? I Love His Music -Still! But Was He Gay...On The Down Low? IJS...
This song is a reminder to let women know WE HURT TOO when our hearts get broken. As far as Teddy P .. the voice, the sweat, the begging. No words to describe the great, one-and-only, irreplaceable Teddy Pendergrass!
To this day I play this song every few weeks!!! I LOVE this live version I want it on vinyl so bad! He would've had me back at the first "Oh" before he started singing. Teddy was it!!
Lloyd Parks with that high pitch beautiful voice. Had me in my feelings. The way he walked up to the mic with that voice. He didn’t get enough recognition. Teddy your voice is Breath taking!!! Camera man sucked tho. Could have gotten the falsetto singing from Lloyd.
That's true performance.....you can see & hear the emotions in his voice and the instruments are so crisp.....wish i was on stage singing or just in the audience......dam good performance !!!
I’m sitting here listening to this song I miss you teddy’s Pendergast sang and pour his heart this song is amazing this song will live on and on, my respect and condolences to his family 💜🥀💐
I bought "The Sound of Philadelphia" box set way back in 1999 when I was getting pretty bored with hip-hop. I heard THIS song and it just hit way different. The whole box set is still something special.
Oh my God, Teddy P. was that uncle that everyone had, lol. I was born in 1978 but when I listen to songs like this, it reminds you of how men loved women. Black people we are doing a poor job with teaching our children the true meaning of black "music." Youngsters now a days are sounding more vulgar than using finesse; because finesse game is the best game.
Everybody's clowning Teddy's perm. Lol!!! Actually it was a wig. They talk about it on his Unsung. They thought he was crazy for wearing it. I must say it looks a hot mess myself. Lol!! That voice of his makes up for it all tho'! Sang Teddy!!!
Yep. Just like the fact that Theodore couldn't dance a lick. But he could play the drums and sing his butt off. Which balances everything out. I'm glad I had the privilege of seeing him do his thing with HM and as a solo artist before his accident. That 6'1" flat footed brother put on a fabulous show - every time!
Misty Aoudia Surely wearing that wig caused Teddy P "his latest, his greatest perspiration". And he started yelling at the stage manager to "Turn off the lights"
THIS SHOW "SOUL!" was on PBS every week and this is where we learned about HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUE NOTES and so many other great performers. thank you Ellis Haislip!
That was the jam in 1973 I remember when, sure does bring back memories. Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes was one of the hottest groups out there because they had the soul to bring your hot and your feelings to your knees makes my heart good feel good to hear them tonight that music to hear now is so refreshing because that's when music was music
