I remember listening to and becoming hooked on this song as an 18 year old back during the late fall/early winter of 1973. 50 year old memories dance in my brain but unlike me-this song will never die!

I've heard an interview that Teddy gave to Terry Gross (Fresh Air), post-accident, that this song was originally intended to be a ballad. Because TSOP had live musicians in the building all of the time, somehow it went from ballad to one of the first disco songs recorded.

I'll assume you're around my age judging from the music you like. I'd listen to this in the car on the way to my favorite discos in Montreal back in the '70s. Just so you know. We had a club called The Soul Paradise. Bunch of Italian goombas ran it and bros like me hung out there. The girls were French. We wouldn't date Italian Marys since it was a sure walk up the church aisle for a wedding. Anyway, they only played Motown and the best R&B tracks. Magical place. Big dance hall with a hundred kids line dancing and doing The Hustle. Brothers from NYC used to hang out every so often. They couldn't believe a club like that existed. It burned down in the '80s. We set all the trends in Montreal for music and dancing. In summer, me a couple of paesans would go to NYC and come back with the latest disco tracks. We'd hang out at a disco in Brooklyn called The 2001 Odyssey. Look it up. It's where they shot the dance scenes for Saturday Night Fever. In fact, the film was based on my Brooklyn friends after an article in a weekend mag. We looked exactly like that btw. I even had an afro. And I had a white suit before Travolta lol. Love your extended mixes. Been watching pretty well all night.
