Oh man , the nostalgia, its too much, to hard to lose,. Soul music, even when its pop, still saying somthing, knowing, feeling, sitting on the dock of the bay, lets stay together, feel the need, happy day, lets stay together people, love each other, the gun and the knife ain't right.
@@kristinaschroeder4231 Thanks……to me it’s just obvious….it’s like musicians taking over the courtroom and acting as someone’s lawyers…..”you have no business here; get the hell in the studio; I want to be represented properly……not a great example but I’m sure you know what I’m trying to say…have a great day!!
Because singers of today unlike yesterday, I'm only interested in money and not the content of the song and to sing good wholesome lyrics that means something
@@ericramsdell4671 That’s a good answer……but I stick with my original line of a couple of weeks ago: Because musicians don’t run the music business anymore
Teddy Pendergrass and the Blue Notes is what it should have been named. Lord help these kids appreciate real music, no, guns, no killing, no vulgarity, no disrespect, no hatred, no bragging, no envy, just positive music.
Absulutly I Agree grew up with these sounds of Love Respect, but now live in Italy lost touch with all the Guys and the sounds we used to sing Thanks Google Y..ou saved my being So many returned To That Great Blù misterios sky Beyond, like Otis Redding Marvin Gaye Thè originals Delfonics Bobby Womack and so many many more.when music Could be Called Music, who know s sure all our soul Icons,May also have night shift Sockin it to the angels Miss you all, sure one day like the boomerang The ancestors send down the vibes to their Decendents all what we listened to yesteryear..As we are all Bro and Sis Globe wide...😊😊🥰✋👍🌈🙏🌈

@@nzingahenriques5720 "If You Don't Know Me by Now" is a song written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and recorded by the Philadelphia soul musical group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. It became their first hit after being released as a single in September 1972, topping the US R&B chart and peaking at number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[2]
Me too teddy had one of the greatest voices ever only two other people Elvis the king of course my very personal favourite and Otis Redding if I could go back to that time when they were all alive I’d make the most of every single record they made I play them all a lot❤
I’m in the hospital at the VA Cancer Clinic in Seattle being treated for triple hit stage 4 DLBCL non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma with severe Cachexia , lymphedema and Ascites. I’m 66 ; and even with this life threatening sickness and unimaginable pain , I still get goose bumps every time I hear this song ! It brings me back to the 70s when I was younger and full of life . Update 5-3-23 : I should have died 18 months ago. Death was staring me in the face! But unbelievably, my body recovered. It’s as if the Almighty “undone” what the body did. Update 2-26-24 : My birthday is in two days … the 28th ! I made it to 68 ! Woohoo. Doctor said I’m in remission! What a birthday present !!! Thank you all for your prayers.
In 2023 this song never sounded better. The Philly sound at its best.I remember watching this,as a kid on Soul Train.Rip , Teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin..
I grew up loving this song. I’m 70 and I still love it. The Stylistics were fantastic as well. Great era never to be seen again. All you have are the great memories. RIP Teddy.
Yup! Grew up watching Soul Train,AB,Midnight Special and DK’s Rock Concert! Thanks! Don Cornelius, Dick Clark,Wolfman Jack and Don Kirshner and a special shout out to all the artist who preformed on these shows, the 70’s at it’s best!
Was married to my late wife Rainy for 39 years. This was one of her favorite songs all of those years. Planning on signing it again someday in Heaven with her. Love you forever baby.
I miss this kind of music. I'm 72 and cry more listening to this song now than I did back then because of all I've been through in my life. This is what matters in a relationship. I love this song.
Well, when 50 years and 100M songs come out, you start to run out of options on making something "new". You should know that trends are a thing and that everyone is looking for the next new thing. Just because something is substantially different, doesn't mean that it isn't good. I'm in my mid 30s and love tons of "oldies" songs and I can also appreciate some new stuff as well. You have to expand your horizons. Rap is also explaining a lifestyle that i, and maybe yourself, haven't experienced...so it may not be right for you and that is obviously fine.
As the music industry unfolds... it becomes more apparent that it is based on SALES... If an artist comes out today and tries to "make it" on these solid vocal torch songs and ballads, they can't because THE KIDS (the major buying audience) is not energized by this.. they are "energized" and "excited" by foul language and vocal passages that they hear on the streets. In the olden days a romantic lyric might be ".... my love, I'll take you out to a fine place, where you and I can speak face to face"... todays romantic lyric might say "Imma call you my bish and eat that booty like a dish". So yeah.. different societal morals calls for different lyrics.
But the good part is, we have these memories inside for Life! Never to go away from our minds! And for me when these songs came out, those were the Good Days. The Best! I doubt it if younger people will ever experience the Good days, you know? Look at today! Sad........
Teddy Pendergrass was only about 22 years old when he recorded this with the BN. Str8 blowing the world away with them grown azz man, life-experienced pipes. Respect and RIP to the Teddy Bear.
I first heard this classic late at night when I was eight years old and sick with the flu. Mum put a radio in my room tuned to the local R&B station to keep me company as she knew I wouldn't sleep a wink. This song has haunted me now for 52 years after first hearing it, it's that powerful. Thanks Mum and your wonderful taste in music.
Do you know how many babies were born listening to this man's music😂😂. He said turn off the lights and they did.😂😂 He had that voice. No one can come close to Teddy P
Which one is Harold Melvin.....I see why Teddy left he never was going to get his "due" but doing lead singer role Harold getting the money and credit ...Teddy was supposed to run and not look back.
You said that's like no body else. Theses singers of today. They can't. Catch up. The singers of the pass have already cross the finish line. All left is dusted.
This performance brings tears to my eyes. If we knew what music would be like today, we might have appreciated it more back then. Harold was epic, one of the all-time greats. I am sure I speak for millions when I say we miss him a lot. All good wishes, my friends.
I couldn’t have said it better myself, if only we had known music was going to end, then maybe just maybe we would have appreciated it more while we had these wonderful musicians in our lives. I sure miss these days but feel so blessed to have been able to enjoy them. Kids can’t miss what they don’t know so I guess that sums it up.
@@karenmcglaston3071Yes, you're correct. Thank you. I actually didn't know that was Teddy until after I made the comment. I'm autistic, and I have holes in my knowledge, one might say. But that's good information and much appreciated. I liked Teddy too, on his solo recordings.
The Motown era was the best. God I miss those days. First was Motown, then the British invasion, Billy Joel, so many to mention. Best time for music. Younger people don't know what they missed. I am so proud I raised my son on my generation music. He is 46 now and still loves all this music.

Take me back to this music, and a time without cellphones, when you could take a break from everything by just leaving the house. You go to a park and just sit, go for a walk, or go to the corner store for some snacks, in peace. Clear your mind. Now, we got the phones strapped to our hips. Too little time to free up your mind.

He was with the label for a long time from 1971 to 1984!!! When you make great hit songs that last a lifetime Philadelphia International was the best record label in the world!!!! Teddy had to go, he was destined for bigger things but fate got in the way. The man had the charisma and looks to be a film star and was taking lessons from Sidney Poitier when the accident happened.
Harold Melvin was controlling and Greedy. The Group was originally the Blue Notes......He put his name out front without consulting the other guys. Teddy was always the “voice” but Harold was too stupid to see that he would eventually leave the group. They were never the same after teddy went solo.
I had the privilege to share stages with Dwight, when I lived in Knoxville, Tennessee. Rest on, and Sing on my brother. Praising GOD for your life!!! Nick Nichols😊❤
Teddy’s wonderful singing voice carried some serious weight of authority! Doesn’t matter what genre of music you swear allegiance to, whether Heavy Metal, Goth, Reggae/Dub, post-punk that God given heart wrenching soulful voice stops all of humanity in its tracks 🙏🏽
