Yes, I'm an old man now. God, please bless me with more years. Having said that -- The album "Wake Up Everybody" is so underrated historically. In my honest opinion, this album is not only a Black Classic, it is one of the best musical albums of the the 1970s. Track by track: 1. Wake Up Everybody; 2. Keep on Lovin' You, 3. You Know How to Make Me Feel So Good, 4. Don't Leave Me This Way, 5. Tell the World How I Feel About'cha Baby, 6. To Be Free to Be Who We Are, and 7. I'm Searching for a Love. Those who know know that you can keep this album on "repeat" and you will remain in that "Glow of Love" and have that good vibe continuously. How I miss "It makes you feel so good" soul music. Good music, good times, good feelings. Being Black wasn't about being whack. Being Black was about having self-worth, pride, knowledge, and understanding. Being Black was a culture and a movement. The music had a message. So much promise for a better day... and in 2024, it's all gone away. We need some youngsters who will find a way to bring it all back. Hopefully, that's soon because we need it now more than ever. We have history and we need to go back in time and revisit it. RIP Teddy Pendergrass -- You had it all -- You are a legend.
Written by the fantastic songwriting team of Gene McFadden & John Whitehead and arranged by MFSB's primary bassist Ronald Baker! Beautiful, Motivating Track!
This album guided my life like no other music! As a child of the 70s living in an impoverished home in a city perceived as one of the worst in America, times were tough and prosperity was absent. Gamble & Huff produced entertaining AND inspirational songs that gave African Americans PRIDE & HOPE. The Wake Up Everybody album demonstrated anything was possible (without being preachy) but you have to trust your god-given gifts and strive for better. Fast forward 45 years later (navigating challenges and setbacks) my world is 180 degrees different. Through the forces of inspiration, education, and determination, I enjoy a high quality of life with the freedom to see the world with few limitations. I took this song as inspiration AND fact. When I travel from my home in America and home in Europe, I feel blessed to have found Gamble & Huff.
This takes me back to my collegiate days and those memories.... What an inspirational pearl.... This is how you join at the bottom and rise to the top.!! Teddy Pendergrass joined Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, swiftly rose to be the unrivaled lead singer, and went on to a spectacularly phenomenal solo career in the latter part of the 70s. Harold Melvin QUICKLY learned to rue the day he recruited Teddy to be the band's drummer....
