Which requirements did pave the way for the design of the Harrier?
Why did other vertical take-off and landing aircraft programmes in the West fail while the Harrier succeeded?
What were the variants of the aircraft?
What were the differences between the British Harriers and the US AV-8A?

Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about older weapon systems. In our videos, we tell their epic stories which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. In our videos, you can find technical information as well as historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future would be like. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

Good video as always. When I was a kid, I made a cardboard model of the Harrier GR3 based on a drawing. It was flying. A complete aerodynamics marvel.

When I was in high school, I made whole squadron of miniature sea-harrier, and a model of aircraft carrier. I just love the sea harrier aircraft. Very sad that our Indian Navy retired them as the fleet was old.

Im sorry but they wont sadly. F35 b are taking their place. I love harriers too but i also love the f35s and it is a good switch. But having said that. Wouldn't hurt to keep 50% of em and upgrade them then mothball em. Just incase they need them later. Honestly its suprising that they weren't used more in afganistan. Could of had Airbase FOBs. Woulda been handy and cool
@joelchee9308

@@dadinkle the main reason why is because the Harrier is inferior in range and payload capacity when compared to the F35B, the only strong point for the Harrier in comparison with the F35B is its unit cost

@@joelchee9308 there is no more room for upgrading harrier jet, that why f35b was developed. Uk will have 60 f35B and option for total 120 jet. Most nations barely have more than 40s 4th gen aging jet.

Another great video. On Belize, 1417 flight was reformed to defend Belize, but yes, it was No. 1 Sqn that sent the initial detachment

the naval carrier borne F-35B Lightning II stealth maritime VTOL multi role fighter seriously needs a proper fuselage in-built 25 MM GAU-12/U 6-barrel rotary internal gun . . . instead of the under wing mounted gun pods that made the F-35B much less stealthy . . .

the British doctrine of a STOVL aircraft carrier severely limits on board flight operations . . . it's high time the Royal Navy revive it's unmatched naval heritage of the 1940s and pursue acquiring a fleet of three brand new 86,809 ton (101,050 ton loaded) stealth (CATOBAR) aircraft carrier powered by cutting edge bioFuelCell3® e-SMARTΔ i-HYBRId® marine propulsion system . . .

the Harrier bounced obsolete fighters with no radar, rwr, countermeasures or defense weapons, returning to base low on fuel after their bombing runs on the brit fleet, hardly an epic achievement.

The harrier is overrated. It killed many a pilot and had the flight envelop of a fighter built in the 50s.

And so did so many other aircraft of the 50s and 60s. It was a handful for the pilots, they’re open about that, but the short/no airfield capability it brought was revolutionary!
@Crissy_the_wonder
@Crissy_the_wonder 2 года назад
Many aircraft from the 50s, 60s and 70s killed their pilots. Its off-runway capability could have been useful if the Cold War went hot. Britain would not have won the Falklands War without the Sea Harrier. And second generation Harriers proved themselves in the CAS role during the Gulf War, over Bosnia, Iraq & Afghanistan. So an aircraft that deserves the recognition it gets.
@mitchverr9330
@mitchverr9330 2 года назад
As others said, many planes killed their pilots, however the Harrier it turned out to heavily come in terms of the US having this issue and that being due to how they were training their pilots/operational usage, once they changed this and adopted similar systems to the British, losses dropped quickly.
