Harris did handle the 8th and 9th month issue though. She rightly pointed out that people are not getting elective abortions in the 8th and 9th months. Abortions in the 8th and 9th month are always done because either the fetus or the mother is going to die, and these should not be regulated. Just like in the earlier months, abortion in the 8th and 9th months should be decisions made by the pregnant person and their doctor. There is no point in pregnancy where the government's involvement makes the situation better. Harris was on message on that.

Almost 99% of abortions are performed on or before the 21st week. Abortions in the third trimester as so exceedingly rare, that they barely register in the statistics. Late term abortions are devastating for the parents, as they usually have a name picked out by then and a room decorated for the child.

I noticed something different, she walked to the front of the stage and then he with his Benito face went to the podium. I didn’t like how she went over to him - it looked kinda interny. But I see your point. I would have rathered she stood where she was originally made a gesture - like ok be that way - and walked around podium in the outside. Then they hit her with that question and I shut it off. Couldn’t take it … so glad my observation isn’t a story and now that I see she mopped the floor with him … I can watch it.

You are doing an awesome job reframing the "postnatal baby execution" argument, Sam. I work with childrens healthcare & my daughter is 5. I didn't have a massively complex pregnancy, but I know people whose pregnancies developed rare fetal complications later in the pregnancy. They chose to deliver their child & even after months of research, there was a limited understanding of exactly how their child would continue developing & function once they were born. They had to face that it was possible their child would be unable to live outside of full medical life support. If that was the outcome, they knew it was likely they would withdraw ĺife support & allow their baby to pass in relative peace. Thankfully that was not the outcome, their child has a great quality of life so far, but will likely need support for some disabilities. If a baby does not need that level of care where medical ethicists agree many would consider it cruel to prolong the childs life with the quality of life they have, once the baby is born the parents can not choose to kill the baby. Thankfully these are rare predicaments, but neonatal hospice/pallative care options can be important to parents facing near impossible choices when not all outcomes are well understood until the baby is born.

While he didn't say it outright, the reason she wouldn't be able to get such a bill passed is because Republicans would filibuster it, and it would need 60 votes to beat a filibuster.

I would have liked Kamala to answer the 4 year question by reminding people where exactly we were 4yrs ago, in the middle of Covid, lots of uncertainty, high unemployment, lots of instability in international trade… show how far the country has come from that low, and then emphasize where she wants to go… would make it look less like dodging.

She did point all that out later in the debate. I think she was nervous at first and defaulted to a prepared bit of rhetoric, which is fair enough. The good news is Trump will never face a nervous Kamala again after that trainwreck! She OWNED his stupid arse 😂. I agree that she did a better job at defending her record during the interview with Walz. Man, I hope there is a VP debate, can you imagine?

Inflation increase was expected with the blows to the economy and supply chains from the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been brought under control. This is part of the cycle of recovery, unfortunate as it may be, when that level of economic disruption occurs. On top of that, the 9% that inflation did reach is hardly an “all-time high”. If you look at actual records, you’ll find inflation peaks far higher than this multiple times in the past century.

Whilst the ABC hosts did fact check Trump on a few of his more outrageous lies, I can't be the only one that noticed that they let plenty of his other lies go through unchallenged can I? Also, he seemed to be given far more total talking time, more opportunities for rebuttal, was allowed to interject more than Harris, even when he wasn't relevant to the topic of conversation/debate. When it came to any possible ABC bias, if anything, I saw it the other way.

This feels like the exact inverse in how i felt the day after the June 2024 debate. Both times I saw an elderly man struggle to keep up and seem to tank their chances at reelection. Honestly, i think Trump came out looking even worse last night than he did in the 2020 debates, and after the 2020 debates I remember thinking Trump was setting himself up to lose. Im really optimistic, if only cautiously optimistic, for November.

The rally thing wasn’t set up by the “problem” line so much as the line about how at a Trump rally you won’t hear about “your needs, your dreams, and your desires,” and then he follows with an answer entirely about his first priority, which is the popularity of his rallies. I wish the conversations about abortions would change. It just means termination of pregnancy. It doesn’t mean killing the fetus. Is the death of the fetus the result of abortions at certain stages, yes. But when talking about late stage, it usually means taking the baby out, alive and maintaining its life. I understand that question is about ones that end the life of the fetus in the late term, but I think we’re doing a disservice to the larger conversation by not adjusting the def.

It's not gross that immigrants are hard workers and seen as valuable to employers for that reason. Immigrant communities take pride in their work ethic and are thankful for the opportunities that 3rd, 4th, 5th generation people aren't in the same way. Semantics matter in abortion discussions I think - in the 8th or 9th month it's most often an induced delivery, not an abortion. There are a myriad of tragic reasons that necessitate this extreme intervention. All of which are between a mother to be and her doctor
