Recent commencement speech delivered by Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star kicker, at Benedictine College has garnered significant attention and sparked a lively debate.
Join us as we explore the various dimensions of his address, highlighting both the applause and the criticisms it has received.
Also, for some Christians, cussing is a line you shouldn't cross. We aren't those Christians. We've recently received negative feedback on some language used on our podcast. We react to a thoughtful Instagram post by ‪@nakedpastor‬ about why he sometimes cusses and talk about why some of us like to mix some zesty language into our conversations. You WILL hear some adult language in this episode. And listener feedback! #podcast #christianity #faith #culture #harrisonbutker

Andy... My response to your response. Andy: "It's not our job to pay for other people's sins with sacrifice. That's not our job. Our job is to forgive other people and that is mostly for us by the way... " "The salvation of others is nott he responsibility for us to bear so he's mixing those two concepts." My point was that if a mere mortal as I, can forgive another who's wronged me without requiring any bloodshed or loss of life... why did the all loving, almighty creator of the Universe impliment... of his OWN VOLITION the system of sacrifice and bloodshed to atone for another's sins or in order to be considered "cleansed" so that they may come back into relationship with him? If Paul defines one of the characteristics of love as "not being jealous" and "not keeping any record of wrong" how does that harmonize with Yahweh keeping records of wrong in so many passages? He calls himself a "Jealous God" who reserves wrath for himself... for those who transgress his laws. Christ says he would deny "workers of lawlessness" as never knowing them in the last day.

1. I love you and your podcasts, but mostly your podcasts. 2. Your podcasts have pushed me further into my own deconstruction?/proper alignment? from bad religion and interpretation to Jesus. A quick shout-out to Zaque for his transparency. 3. Art is my spirit animal. To the point: My wife and I were traveling and listening to a couple of your podcasts, one of which was about Butker's commencement comments. 1. I think it's important to understand that his comments were made to a group of conservative Catholics who, as much as we know, have always been taught birth control is bad. So if two young conservative Catholic college grads are going to get married, there's a strong likelihood they're going to be kickin' it for days, and there's also a strong likelihood someone will get pregnant. I'm thinking the woman in that scenario. Abortion is out of the question, so what to do? Enter Butker's speech. Early on, my wife and I agreed that she would stay home and raise our litter. It was a massive sacrifice, but it was also our unified decision. However, we know a lot of families where both parents work, and it works for them. Their kids are equally as adjusted as ours, if not more so, and we didn't even homeschool them (zing). 2. The housing market, even rent, is a killer right now. Loads of college debt + low-paying entry-level jobs + high rent/mortgage + a new baby means there's a strong possibility that they can't survive on one income. What do they do then? Suck it up? Live in extreme poverty? Rent in a destabilized community so they can afford rent? There is a huge reality that I thought ya'll overlooked. 3. The big one. During your podcast, I paused it and asked my wife her thoughts (foreshadowing). Note: we were both raised in conservative Christian environments, so we're down with strong family units. She stated that if she had heard Butker's comments on the day of her commencement after completing four years of a very difficult journey, those words would have crushed her. She had a dream, and to have all that effort and that dream brushed to the side to accept the vocation of mom with no end date would have made her feel devalued. Regardless, she acknowledges that it would have been a very difficult situation. The major point here is that I asked a female about a female's perspective. You literally talked on behalf of women. What are the collective years of marriage between the three of you? Personally, and on behalf of women everywhere, I cringed at some things said. If only you weren't so frikin lukewarm. Again, I love you and your podcast, but mostly your podcasts.

@brosbiblesbeer I finally had a chance to listen to your latest podcast and wanted to respond to your listener feedback response. To start, please know that about 90% of everything I say has some level of sarcasm or is a movie or TV quote. Also, I truly appreciate your honest dialogue. I'm at a crossroads, of sorts, and your podcast came at the right time. Thank you for your pc, guests, and the way you navigate difficult topics. To my feedback: as I listened to your response, I realized that I made sweeping statements, which isn't fair. I will say that in the pc, there were specific statements made that were generalized from the perspective of personal experience. Although I agree with most of what was said in the pc, those moments were difficult to listen to. On behalf of all of humanity forever, to quote from one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of our time, "Keep on keepin' on." ~Joe Dirt.
