My god, what a FUN concert! It had me up and moving. This is DAMN good music from a DAMN good performer. And he was backed up by some INCREDIBLY talented musicians, too.
He was the most beautiful man ever to grace this planet. I fell hard at age 8 or 9 the first time I saw and heard him on Sullivan. Sail on and good journey and thank you thank you thank you!!!
You and your songs will never be forgotten, my country man, you were always love and dear to our family. As a young girl grown up in Jamaica West Indies, there was a slot on Radio Jamaica 🇯🇲 at 7:55 am, every morning known as Calypso Corner we never miss a morning when we know your song will be playing. Oh my country man you always make us proud. I was blessed to have the opportunity to watch you on Television when you took your children to Jamaica so that they could tour the Island of your mother and Father’s country. I am mourning your departure but you have left an excellent legacy behind that no one can replace. Although you have departed this world before me, I will always remember that we are “The World.” My sincere condolences to your wife, children, other family members, and friends. You have opened the doors for our race, those after you will pick up from where you left. All Jamaicans are mourning your loss, you put our country on the World’s Map we will never forget you. Jamaica 🇯🇲 will always be your “Island In The Sun.”Rest In Peace my brother.
@Hyacinth Reynolds: So beautifully said!! I’ve been a fan of his since I was 12 and always wanted to see Jamaica. In my 20’s, I finally did. Since then, I’ve been to other Caribbean islands but always claim Jamaica is one of the prettiest due to its varied topography … the beaches, of course, but also the mountains, jungle, rivers and waterfalls. We drove past Duncan which our driver claimed was the home of Harry Belafonte. I saw him perform whenever he came to Toronto. I even ended up getting his autograph because we both went to the same Chinese restaurant following one of his performances and luckily, my program was tucked in my purse.
After enjoying one of his amazing (and impeccable) performances in Toronto, my husband and I (and another couple) popped over to Chinatown for a late dinner. After ordering and while enjoying a drink, I suddenly heard his distinctive, raspy voice and there he was! His table was a mere 14’/15’ away; the restaurant wasn’t busy at that late hour so I was able to look at him throughout dinner. Before his meal arrived, my husband slipped over and asked if he’d sign my program which he did; fortunately, I had it in my bag. I still have it!

I am 76 now and already ❤60 years in love with Harry Belafonte. For my 16th birthday I asked an LP from my than boyfriend. I think he is extremely handsome, has a tremendous voice - not only a singing voice but also a speaking voice - and is a beautiful human being. Tip: listen to his song “skin to skin”. I'm writing this in 2023, a day after death of the master Harry. We'll never forgot him, as much time ago said the poet, Horace, "Non omnis moriar!" - "I'll not die at all." We'll always remember his greatest hits, with O-day (Banana boat Song), at the top.

Harry Belafonte was such a fabulous singer , entertainer , contributing so much to the Civil Rights movement and the cause of the black people all over the world .Some of his marvellous songs like Bally Mena,Kingston Market etc are not heard much and ought to be played much more.😊
Ik keep watching and listening again and again. Can't get enough of this stuff. It seems to me as Harry performs almost without any effort, but I think appeareances are deceptive,. It's pure professionalism.

I listened to Harry Belefonte back in the 1950's with my father. He was a Merchant Sailor, who brought the love of music of the World home to his family. When I (still) listen to Harry Belefonte's songs, I remember the happy days when I would listen with my father to the songs of Jamaica.
Can you imagine the thrill my family experienced near the time of this video recording when this talented and charismatic man, singers and orchestra came to Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada and performed at the then named Centennial Auditorium? I was a small girl. I just played this for my parents who are now 87 & 88 yrs old. Thank you for posting!
