The weasley's were the best of this book they're amazing there are 3 key moments with them which i love SCENE 1 When harry goes to the quidditch cup with the weasleys and they use the floo powder and then he's like bye to the dursley's and then Mr weasley puts his hand on harry's shoulder and basically tells the weasley's ''you ain't gunna see your nephew for a long time and he said bye'' and that is amazing and he stops him from going to chimney and is waiting for them to say bye... melts my heart SCENE 2 When the 3rd task is right about to start and mcgonnagoll walks up to harry tells him that his FAMILY is here and harry is scared af thinking that the dursleys showed up and then he walks into that door and you know who he sees? molly weasley and bill omg this is amazing i love this scene so much and there's also a little foreshadowing between fleur and bill which is cool but damn this scene is absolutely amazing but its nothing compared to whats next... SCENE 3 ''Mrs. Weasley set the potion down on the bedside cabinet, bent down, and put her arms around Harry. He had no memory of ever being hugged like this, as though by a mother. The full weight of everything he had seen that night seemed to fall in upon him as Mrs. Weasley held him to her. His mother’s face, his father’s voice, the sight of Cedric, dead on the ground all started spinning in his head until he could hardly bear it, until he was screwing up his face against the howl of misery fighting to get out of him.'' damn this scene is amazing holy shit that is absolutely incredible i love this scene so much and it melts my heart every single time the only thing that even comes close to this level of weasley love is the boggart scene in the order of the phoenix which is amazing this is the book where harry became a true member of the weasley's family and i love that he does visit the burrow in book 2 but in book 4 and onwards he visits their hearts *Thank You for reading this every like is appreciated*

I totally agree with what you are saying, but there are also some bad moments for Mrs Weasley in this book. Specially her rocky relationship with Fred and George where she insists they do what she wants instead of what they like, and she's also very cold of to Hermione after reading the article written by Reeta Skeeter, whom Mrs Weasley very well knows is a person who publishes sensationalist lies

The thing that this book accomplished way more than the other books did was that it actually made me feel bad for Harry. Don’t get me wrong, I sympathized with Harry sometimes in the other ones, but this one really does it the best. He was forced to compete in a dangerous tournament, most of his friends turned their backs on him, he got rejected by his crush, he had to watch one of his closest friends get killed, he got brutally tortured in the graveyard, and had severe PTSD at the end. Thinking about it, he went through so much in this book.
@TooSweet353
@TooSweet353 Год назад
I actually think the best part of this book is the mystery, I never really liked this book much in the past because the plot was convoluted and contrived, it wasn't nearly as airtight as Prisoner of Azkaban(except Time Turners) and the story was overall and the tournament lacked real stakes at least until the final task. But 7 major mysteries, most of which are very intriguing makes up for everything in this book + the ending with Voldemort at The Graveyard with small changes could've been in my Top 5 favourite final duel in any book: 1. Have it be Harry and Voldemort alone, so no summoning Death Eaters and over-exposition of Voldemort. 2. Have Harry actually escape Voldemort's clutches instead of Voldemort letting Harry go to prove a point and try and duel him.
@SonofJones
@SonofJones 4 года назад
This book is easily my favorite in the series mostly for the ending. As soon as they enter the graveyard the entire tone of the series instantly shifts to a much darker, more adult tone (not that it didn't have dark parts before). Everything from Cedric's Death to Voldemort's Return to Crouch's Reveal to the confrontation between Fudge and Dumbledore perfectly sets up the second half of the series and lets the reader know that everything has changed forever.
@SapphWolf
@SapphWolf 4 года назад
Here's my one issue with the confrontation between Fudge and Dumbledore. Or Fudge's behavior in general. His insistence on not believing Harry - as nonsensical as it already was - is made even more nonsensical by the fact that pensives exist in the universe. They can literally take the memory out of Harry's head and see for themselves exactly what happened!
@SonofJones
@SonofJones 4 года назад
@@SapphWolf that's true but honestly even if someone had suggested it he would have probably made the excuse of not wanting to waste the time. I always felt that his refusal to believe Harry came from him not wanting to face the terrible truth Voldemort had come back and continue living in the comfortable delusion he was gone forever, which is why he tried so hard to discredit Harry and Dumbledore in the next book; he wasn't interested in facts he only wanted to feel safe
@SapphWolf

I find it a little ironic how the readers often on the one hand disregards Harrys abilities because he's helped by others (mainly Ron and Hermione), and on the other hand think he is to good and learns to fast. I'm not sure why receiving help, even if you are a chosen one, makes you less of a chosen one either. Even though Harry and Tom Riddle are similar, both being halfbloods, both being orphans, both being somewhat cunning and ambitious, both breaking and bending the rules, the difference is that Tom Riddle became Lord Voldemort, who doesn't want or need anyone, he doesn't need anyone, and he fails because of that, where Harry wants and needs other people, and he wins because of that. So why is it consider a weakness on Harrys part that he have friends who helps him out? As a kind of an afterthought - Neville started out as a lonely, clumsy, insecure kid, and ended up being a badass who started a resistant movement inside Hogwarts, and the biggest change came after Neville got friends, became part of a group, didn't it. I'm pretty sure this was intentional from JKRs side.
@merphynapier42
@merphynapier42 4 года назад
I'm in agreement that the boys having friends and help is in no way a bad thing and that it's actually really beautiful. But I also think there's nothing wrong with discussing when he can't have done things without his friends, or with discussing the fact that quite a few things come extremely easy for him. It's just discussing the different levels of this story
@tonel.9967
@tonel.9967 4 года назад
@@merphynapier42 I do agree that we should and can discus the different levels of the story, but I often feel Harry gets undeserved shade because he gets help from his friends. There have been those who thinks Hermione is the real hero, because she is the most clever witch of her age, and Harry is a fraud because can't get by on his own, so I'm a bit defensive about my boy Harry ;)
@janhavi1977
@janhavi1977 4 года назад
@@tonel.9967 Yes! This! People either complain Harry's a Mary Sue who gets things really easily, or else they complain that he can't do anything at all without his friends. Like, seriously, which is it? Is he an overpowered Mary Sue or is he someone who relies on his friends. Make up your mind. XD I agree so much that Harry does not get the credit he deserves. He's shown to be really intelligent but at the same time he also has friends who help him, which is a great thing. I think the whole, "Hermione was the real hero" came from the movies, where Harry's street smarts and his ability to think fast were given to Hermione. Ron's lines being given to Hermione is a topic that's been talked to death, but nobody really talks about how Harry was shafted in the movies as well. And yes, I'm really defensive of Harry as well, as you can tell. I maintain that he's underrated in his own story. In fact, I think it's because he's the main character that people decide to focus more on the side characters instead.
@frankiethebookworm3163
@frankiethebookworm3163 4 года назад
@@merphynapier42 The thing to me, that differentiates Voldy and Harry is that despite them coming from, in a certain way similar situations, they evolve in two very opposite directions. Voldemort, just like Harry has always been alone, and he had to learn to count only on himself. Voldemort in fact refuses help, he prefers to use people for his own gain regardless of what happens to them. Harry loves having people who cares about him enough to be there for him, and help him and wanting to risk all they have in order for him to defeat Voldemort. But we also see how Harry, cares about his friends because in reality they're the only family he ever had, and he feels bad whenever they get hurt because of him. In my view, Harry accepting help and recognizing he needs people's help is JK's way to show us why the two have similar aspects, similar pasts, but they're very different and also why Harry does belong in Griffindor, because you need courage to admit you need help, and that you would have never won without help from other people. I agree , sometimes it seems like some things come easy for Harry. But I think we should take into account his years prior to Hogwarts. And the sacrifice he so willingly and bravely make, kind of balances things for me. This is the last thing, I promise. I love Nevil too. He really changes from the first book till the last.

Hermione/Krum - I don't really think it's a lack of interest on Hermione's part so much as JK's writing style is just super Harry-centric. I feel the same way about Ron and Hermione. We never see any interaction between them that doesn't involve Harry (those interactions are rarely even referenced) but we know that happens all the time. As for Barty/Moody teaching Harry to fight off the Imperius curse, I think it has more to do with the Death Eaters being fascinated by the dark arts. Whether it's the dark arts themselves or the defense of dark arts the Death Eaters just seem to want to be near them. He probably never considered it would help Harry; Voldemort had no interest in controlling him after all, just killing him. I think it was just Barty/Moody's idea of fun.

The stuff they chose to keep, the stuff they chose to ADD, was pointless. The biggest change that I hate is the final fight between Harry and Voldemort. The one in the book is SO MUCH MORE epic than the movie version. It's why I stick to the audio books and listen to them in repeat while I'm at work or driving. That is what I always thought.. like with Percy, when he was 11 years old he didn’t think about what was going to happen when he left Hogwarts ..we get to see his ambition (maybe it’s really foreshadowed but it’s there) in book 2 (which all he talks about is being a prefect , head boy and working at the ministry) . The twins were also very ambitious in this book but it’s almost their last year and it’s normal for a student who is graduating soon to think about the his/her future , so in conclusion the sorting hat can be mistaken and Percy it’s a Slytherin... it just can’t be that all 7 sibilings are from the same house ...

My guess about Barty Jr. teaching Harry to fight Imperio is that Barty Sr. had him under the Imperious Curse for a long time. Jr. is just not having it whether it helps or hinders The Dark Lord. Same with being hexed when your back is turned. I would assume Jr. would want whoever he is cursing to Know who did the cursing out of some weird Death Eater pride.

The comforting Hagrid scene is one of my all-time FAVES. I love how Hermione is banging on the door and screams "WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY HAGRID, CUZ WE LOVE YOU AND WE'LL STAY OUT HERE ALL NIGHT IF WE HAVE TO" and Dumbledore is the one to answer the door. Also, I think after Goblet of Fire, Rowling might've realized (or been tipped off by an editor or friend) that the Hermione/Krum situation, while sweet on the surface, is a bit creepy because of their age difference (they started dating when she was at most 14, and he was at least 17, an adult in the Wizarding World), and so I bet she opted to just avoid him in the narrative as much as possible.

I personally think that the point is that Crouch Jr was able to fight off the imperatus curse, and that strength of will probably informed a lot of his sense of self identity. It's therefore consistent to his character that he would want to 'teach' this in his class, even if it didn't fill a well thought out agenda. Bear in mind that he taught for a year; there were probably a lot of dull rainy Thursdays for him to make classes for, outside of the crucial steps of his evil plots. Also, fastest way to pronounce Cruciatus is that it takes the same root as 'excruciating', :)
@haylierouleau
@haylierouleau 4 года назад
My understanding of the imperius curse lesson was that it was extremely personal for Barty Jr. Being under the imperius curse at his own father's hand made him feel that everyone should learn to resist, that it was the worst of the unforgivable curses. Yes, we know Crouch is a Deatheater, but he was also an abused son. Not to say that the action was motivated by "good," only that it was deeply personal.

Just found your channel and have really enjoyed your content! You're a hoot. The Lupin-to-Moody setup/delivery is one of my *favorite* literary villainy reveals. Not only for the reason you mentioned, but also for the fact that Lupin was such an awesome badass in PoA that, during the first part of the Shrieking Shack scene, even on my first read, I didn't buy him as a bad guy. Yes, Rowling had given him an air of mystery and *possible* sketchiness, but given how helpful he was during the entire year (I seriously love the character, have I mentioned that?), I *knew* that he couldn't possibly have been trying to hurt Harry. And, lo! I was right. Fast forward to Moody in GoF, and we had a guy who behaved *shadier* (child abuse! Unforgivable Curses! General orneriness!), who I *never* suspected of villainy because he seemed genuinely helpful and PoA set me up to think he was cool. It's just...[chef's kiss]. Beautiful. Moody Crouch helping Harry learn to shake off the Imperius Curse has always bugged me, but I've one possible reason (Yes, this is total fanwanking): Moody Crouch *hated* wizards who turned on Voldie or pretended that they only acted because they were under Imperius. With Moody Crouch's twisted logic, did he (even unconsciously) publicly teach Harry how to shrug the Curse off so that, in the (unlikely) event that a victorious Voldie left Harry alive, but broken, people would know that Harry wasn't just Imperio'd into defeat. Voldie hadn't "cheated" to win, he was just *that* powerful of a force. Almost like it's Moody Crouch's version of Voldie's "I want you to look at me when I kill you! I want to see the light leave your eyes!" (Which I think might be a movie-only line, but whatevs...) It's not Moody Crouch *helping* Harry by making him impervious to Imperius, it's his twisted way of trying to make Voldie's victory seem even more crushing. Teal Deer: Lupin is the best. And, apropos of nothing, the graveyard scene is one of my favorite, most chill-inducing scenes in the entire series.

Hey! I'm getting into these reviews late but am loving them! You have a fantastic way of talking about the series, and I can tell you genuinely love it I reckon, on Harry being able to defend against the imperious curse, that it's not just him being lucky or being good at everything. It felt really believable because of the difficult life that Harry had been through up until that point, and the mental fortitude he's developed in maintaining who heh is, and not allowing the mistreatment of the Dursleys, or Malfoy, or Voldemort change him. At that point he'd already courageously proved himself against Voldemort twice. He'd suffered but always remained strong against the Dursleys at home. And he also has the strength of character to do the right thing even when it's difficult, like not allowing Sirius and Lupin to kill Pettigrew in book 3. So to me, it made sense that he was able to withstand the curse, because he had amazing strength of character and will, and had experience in proving it. Just a thought I had and wanted to share, glad you made all these videos, I'm currently up to book 5 on my re-read for the first time since I was a kid! Ciao

I like to think that Harry can deflect the Imperius curse so quickly because he has the bit of Voldemort’s soul in him. In the books it’s described as a voice in his head propelling him to shrug off the curse. And since it’s a horcrux-soul situation, the soul is protecting its container (ie Harry) because it can’t survive without a cursed container - as its explained in the last book. I think it’s reasonable to suggest that it’s Voldemort’s soul taking control to protect its horcrux “container”.

To add on to the point about the Krum/Hermione romance or lack thereof, I think something most people don't consider is the ages of the characters. I wouldn't consider Percy to be mis-sorted. Percy's loyalty shifts, sure, but he believes himself to be doing the right thing. He believes that authority is correct, and should be obeyed absolutely. Percy may be the most ambitious of his family, but that ambition was encouraged as he grew up by his mother. He wanted to live a better life, and obeying the rules and obeying authority made his life better. As far as I'm concerned, Percy is very much a Gryffindor because of that. And really, it takes courage to turn away from your family and follow what you think is right. And it takes even more courage to admit your mistakes, and to ask for forgiveness. Percy is a Gryffindor, through and through.

Super Carlin Brothers did a theory video on "Was Percy Imperioused." It was very well thought out and an interesting take on the evolution of Percy's character. Yes, Percy is very ambitious, but aren't all Gryffindors. If you have about 20 minutes you should check it out. I always pronounce Madam Maxiems name like Olympics but instead of the -ics it's -pay. With Barty Crouch Jr, we know from his father's ramblings he was a Hermione level student. He got like 11 owls, and he got involved with the Death Eaters at a very early age, I think at first as a rebellion against his father, but was sucked into the seductive nature of dark magic. Imagine if Hermione hadn't befriended Harry and Ron and someone came to her and said that only truely powerful wizards who studied hard should be allowed at Hogwarts and they needed to rid the school of slackers. Yes, it is on a smaller scale, but you got this impressionable kid who wants his father's attention so he rebels. In the court scene, we see him begging his father to believe him. Saying "I didn't do it," and wanting his father to believe him. Considering Bellatrix was also in the same court as him his "secret" never got out that he did falter in his worship of Voldy. Bringing the point around: Knowing that Junior was a good student and let's face it, he took a liking to Harry- teaching him to fight off the Imperious curse could have just been a natural wanting to impart some of his knowledge on to Harry. Crouch's father imperious him for years and finding someone who had such a strong mind to ward it off would have intrigued him.

I've though about why he learns Harry to shake the imperius curse. This is what I came up with ; I think the imperius curse thing is because he himself had learned to shake it off. He wasn't thinking about Voldemort at that point I think, but rather explaining that it could be shaken off as recognition of he himself having been able to do it. Something that separates him again from his father because he couldn't shake it off. I think he prides himself in being able to do so and he reflects that in that scene making the explanation of his escape at the end more valid. Or at least that's how I see it. Hope that makes sense.

Question question question!! Is there a difference on the UK version of harry potter and the US or is it just the covers? Like the actual content?
