Many community subscribers have requested that I do a video showing the front covers of the Harry Potter books in my library. Here is part one of a seven part series. The Cover Series! Part one features the Philosopher's Stone/Sorcerer's Stone books in the library.

Latin American Spanish is a lovely cover. It screams wonder... and you see that on Harry's face as well. Which Dutch? The original with the Ford Anglia (In which case yes, it's amazing!) or the pocket edition?

Low German! So cool! Not a lot of people in Germany are able to speak Low German (actually, only a small part in the north of the country) and I somehow find it so funny that an American collector has a book in Low German, even though I (who speaks Low German) didn't even know that this version exists :D

You're so lucky to have a first edition Hungarian! I've only seen the cover art on the internet :D Which one do you still miss? The Persian one is fave in my collection. I always laugh so much when I see it. I totally thought it's an unofficial bootleg release:,) As for Korean...the 2 piece release was everywhere but I didn't want it like that, so I made my friend look for the book in one piece...and I do have it.

For the French editions, "À l'école des sorciers" means "At the wizards school" (school = école, wizards = sorciers). It is not even close to the original title. xD Even the first movie was called that. There's also a difference between the French and French Canadian titles sometimes, such as "Coupe de feu" and "Goblet de feu" for "Goblet of fire".

Translations can be weird. I have the 4th book in German and it translates to "Harry Potter and the Fire Cup".

Dont forget about the first first UK edition printed, it had an illustration of an unknown wizard on the back smoking a pipe (people thought it was a young dumbledore, but the artist said its not actually a character, its just his dad as a wizard) :)

Seeing the Italian edition I grew up reading made me emo, I remember that documentary where JK was signing copies from around the world and she laughed at our edition because she didn’t know why they put Harry in a mouse hat, we don’t know either! I wish I could go back to the first time I read the books and experience it all over again

What an incredible collection. Thank you for sharing. I've always wanted to see what every cover looked like. I have three favourites: Armenian, Dutch, and Latin American Spanish. One I noticed you didn't feature in your video video was the Illustrated British Edition by Jim Kay.

7:25 I've heard that the unknown wizard portrayed on the back of one of the very early English editions is Nicholas Flamel. Possible that the Greek edition also has Nicholas Flamel on the back.

I have that first edition Icelandic translation with "Joanna." I have really fond memories of my dad buying it and reading it for me and my sister. It is the only edition (along with the J.K. fix) to feature cover art by an Icelandic Illustrator. I guess the publishers didn't want to shell out the extra money or something because after that they went with the standard Mary GrandPré covers (even for all the subsequent editions of the Philosopher's stone.) I think it's a real shame, I would have liked to see original art for the other books as well.

There are a few. Some first edition translations I am still searching to for... a few other special editions of translations and anything new that gets released that doesn't use the newer Duddle (UK) or Kazu (US) artwork. :)

I'm Filipino so am interested in the Filipino edition. I don't really see them in the bookstores (but that might be because I haven't been going to the bookstores much lately...) Anyway, I notice the title is in English. Makes me wonder how much of it they translated... Half expected it to be something like "Si Harry Potter at ang Bato ng Pilosopo". :P

Because the Aussie editions have the same covers as all the UK editions I'm pretty sure :) I have a similar situation, when I was first reading the books, I just got the pretty colourful covers from kmart which I now recognise as the "signature" editions he mentioned in the UK part of the vid.

New russian Harry Potter translation is HORRIBLE. Espesially how names are changed (for exsample Severus Snape is somehow turned into Zlodeus Zlei, which in my oppinion sounds horrible) P.s. Sorry if I made mistakes, l'm not fluent in english yet.

The original Danish covers will always have a special place in my heart - those are the ones my mother owns and I loved looking at the covers when she read the first ones for me. I only own the newest covers myself - the ones with the black pages - and they're also very pretty, especially with the metallic lettering and lightning bolts.

There is one more collectors edition of Harry Potter books in Russia : the books are black and have old translation. The press is "Rosman" (Росмэн-пресс). Just search it up to add more books in your collection)))

In my old primary school my P4 teacher really loved Harry Potter. He even got a sorting hat that linked up to the whiteboard and told all the students what house they were in. I ended up in Hufflepuff A lot of people dread going into Hufflepuff and I don’t understand why, in the Hufflepuff description it says they are always Loyal Oh well, comment what you think your in 😛

This was so wonderful to watch. I've been slowly accumulating my own multilingual collection of Philosopher's Stone books, and I was hesitant to watch this because I didn't want to lose the delight I have every time I come across a new cover, but I'm glad I gave in to the temptation! Now I can watch the rest without worry because I don't intend to collect the entire series like this (only for languages I'm learning/can read).
