I always hoped that Jacob would marry Queenie and one of their great-granddaughters (long having forgotten the magic but only remembering stories about a great grandma who could always see through her kids when they tried to lie to her) would go to study in England, marry an English dental student named Granger and they would have a daughter and call her Hermione. Great grandma's genes would pop up again, surprising everyone.

Two words. Quentin Kowalski. Quidditch player in the World cup of 2014 for America. Meaning as this name no way is a coincidence, Jacob had definitely a wizard grandson, whether this is a hint that he and Queenie(sounds like a female version of Quentin anyone?) end up having children together, which I'd totally be up for, or whether it is another hint on your theory here I can't tell, but both seem good enough.

My assumption was always that Jacob is a Polish Catholic. Queenie and Tina are the ones with obviously Jewish surnames. Both Catholic and Jewish culture have strong taboos against marrying out of the faith, so the taboo depicted in the story of Queenie not being able to be involved with Jacob because she was a witch and he was a muggle, reflects to some extent the historical taboos experienced by Catholic and Jewish immigrants to New York in the early 20th century.

Mathematech I agree - Tina and Queenie are the obviously Jewish ones. While Jacob is a pretty Jewish name, Kowalski is just really Polish. There’s usually some overlap in Polish and Jewish surnames, but I think Jacob is just Polish (since he is literally from Poland). In addition, the name Zacharias comes from the New Testament, so it’s definitely not a Jewish name. Hephzibah is a Hebrew name, so maybe the Hufflepuff line is Jewish, but even so, that doesn’t give much of a connection to Jacob or Zacharias. Although fun fact, the actors who play Credence and Jacob are both Jewish!!

Jacob isn't really all that Jewish for a Polish immigrant: it's really just Polish/German for "James". As for Zacharias and Hephzibah, there seems to have been a fashion at one point (among the Puritans, I think, though I could be wrong) to pick names out of the Bible, so the Smiths could be a very staunchly non-conformist Christian family. But I wouldn't say that Zacharias is "New Testament": it's also spelled "Zechariah", and that's an Old Testament book.

Well, my family is from Poland, they were Jewish. They moved to other country and married Catholics. My father's family biggest taboo used to be to talk about religion. They always fighted when someone mentioned it. So I guess it wasn't really a rule. We had also Protestant marrying Catholic, they just converted so they could marry and then everyone went to its own church lol It was normal to convert because of marriage or divorce in EU.

@@rose8765 Jacob (or "Jakub" in Polish) may be of Jewish origin, but it's not important anymore. This name is (and was) quite popular in Poland. Nobody thinks of it as Jewish. It's just ordinary name with no meaning to it. 🤷

@@xyforever1546 Origins of family names have many different sources. Variations on the name "Smith" generally mean that at some point in the family's history there was a prominent tradesman. That's all that smith really means, tradesman. Black for iron/steel workers because of the carbon dust left over. Gold, silver, and whatever other precious metals which also vary by region. Cooper for barrel makers. It's more slang than anything else, but even some writers are called wordsmiths. There may be a language out there that has a smith variant for baker, but in English would you care to take a wild guess where the family name Baker came from? It's not Kowalski, but it's still the name of a smith.

No one fits Slytherin qualities as much as Snape since his motivation was that all the ends must justify the means (or is it the other way around) either way, he was cunning, willing to do whatever it took to make sure everything planned out.

You know, I'm just gonna sy JK Rowling wanted Hufflepuff's mascot to be a badger/bear because of Helga's possible love for honey. Then, since badgers hold more Hufflepuff values, she went with that. Also, I never thought of Hufflepuff having a wolf as a mascot because the Slytherins are like wolves in a pack, they literally always have friends around them almost all the time and, if you get sorted into Slytherin on Pottermore, the Prefect mentioned that Slytherins are like a close knit family, so more like wolves.

I think the point of Jacob showing up and becoming part of the adventure is more about how Newt sees the world. Newt observes JK like he would an animal, and sees that he's a really good person that is worth being friends with. It isn't random. If it weren't JK, Newt wouldn't have kept his memory in tact and wouldn't have helped him out or anything.

Even if Jacob is not a descendent of Hufflepuff, he's already awsome in my book due to the fact he's polish. Also yes, you've gotta try the "pączkis", especially those with rose marmalade. Also his name would be Jakub Kowalski in polish (pronounced somewhere along Iacoob Kovalski) and "kowal" does actually mean blacksmith, although Kowalski would be understanded more like "blacksmith" as an adjective for something belonging to a blacksmith. Hope I didn't make it more confusing :')

Kowalski doesen't mean "son of smith"... More like just Smith, the ending "ski" was added in nobility surnames, so it's origin is simple "smith". Kowal in Kowalski means Smith.

Statistically everyone has two parents four grandparents eight great-grandparents and doubling every generation prior, if we assume that there are four generations in a century then everyone has 4096 ancestors going back 300 years If this trend continues (as in now pure blood inbreeding) then everyone has more then 11 BILLION ancestors going back 1000 years So yeah I say he could be related

I think badgers represent Hufflepuff well because people often underestimate them even though they are quite fierce if someone encroaches on their territory. They have even been known to kill *snakes* that try to enter their dens.

I would like to point something that makes a bit of a connection. Since House Hufflepuff are great at food charms. If you noticed at the end of Fantastic Beasts when J.K. (jacob kowalski) all of his pastries looked very good in comparison to his pastries earlier in the film. Almost as If he was actually a wizard and made these pastries which looked like the fantastic beasts he encountered before his memories were supposedly wiped. To have that recollection after a memory charm was cast on him, makes me think its less of a coincidence. It would further my hypothesis that he is indeed tied to the wizarding world and that he may in fact be a wizard. He just doesn't know it. Not the first to happen in the Harry Potter franchise.

I think he's the grandson, or great-grandson of a squib, so he has some magic blood in him. Squibs are pretty much shunned in the wizarding world, so his father or mother (or whoever the magic blood comes from) might not have known about magic. :shrug: Just my opinion.

The memory recollection is actually part of another theory where the swooping evil’s venom is supposed to erase bad memories, but throughout the entire movie we see that Jacob didn’t make very bad memories. Therefore not a lot of his memories were wiped because he made more good memories than bad ones

IMO, his resistance to the memory wipe is the first and by far the most compelling evidence that he has magical ancestry. I was surprised it wasn't mentioned in the video. That being said, if he is a descendant of one of Hogwarts' founders, Hufflepuff is the obvious choice.

Hogwarts only watched the Dursleys because they sent Harry there and because of the knowledge that he survived the killing Curse. He needed to be watched because Voldy was still out there. That baby needed protection. Jacob However could have a Squib as his ancestor, of course they were brushed aside and ignored because of their lack of magical ability. if that Squib married a Muggle/No Maj, they have the very strong likelihood of having Non magic children...well having children that have no active magic and as a result fly under the radar of the schools. This could mean he is a Squib and unable to use magic therefore ignored by magic schools.

Jay and Coco one of the twins is ravenclaw and one is Gryffindor and tonks who is basically the best character is a hufflepuff. It was kind of balanced until newt pipes up and made hufflepuff the best house. I think a wizard detective story with a ravenclaw lead would be awesome.

Jay and Coco to be honest I'm just really happy that the joint power of ravenpuff is getting some love. Even if ravenclaw has to wait I'm glad that hufflepuff is getting it's chance to shine and I'd love the same of slytherin too. About my only major criticism of the harry potter series is that it's so Gryffindor dominated. I mean look at it this way my phone came with Gryffindor on auto check but I've had to add every other house to my dictionary.

I think the house mascots are supposed to symbolize the houses themselves, not the names. The lion is Gryffindor because lions are brave, the snake is Slytherin because they are cunning, the eagle is Ravenclaw because eagels are intelligent, and the badgers are Hufflepuff because they are caring and sweet until you piss them off. Edit: Bears are also caring and loyal until you screw with them or their family. Edit num2: I really gotta stop commenting before finishing the video.

itzyeboi_camdaman ._. While ravens are smart, they are often considered to be omens of death which I believe is the initial reason for not using a raven. As for the eagle, I've done some digging and found that in Norse mythology eagles are often connected with wisdom. Odin himself turns into an eagle to liberate the sacred mead from a giant. This mead is often connected with scholars and poets.

itzyeboi_camdaman ._. I ones had a very symbolic explanation for this. Eagles mostly have an own area there they hunt and most curious people have a specific interest in science, art or something else. I think this COULD be a reason for the eagle. Ravens kinda seem more Slytherin to me too.

Compared to ravens, and corvids in general, eagles are pretty stupid. They are good hunters, but stupid. And I haven't seen any evidence whatsoever that snakes are cunning. Also, have you seen that video of lions being scared by a ferret? Ironically, badger is the animal that fits the most.

Kowalski is super popular Polish surname, so there were probably many immigrants with the same name, but not necessary related. I wouldn't look too deep into that one.

Hi! So I really love this theory but I'm also Polish and here are some facts: Kowalski isn't really a very Jewish last name. I think the association comes from the time when there was a large Jewish population living in Poland, so before World War II. Kowalski is just one of the most popular Polish last names, the way Smith is in Amerca. So I always though that Jacob's last name was Kowalski to make it fairly obvious that he had Polish descendants. But that's just something I thought was worth pointing out. I love the video and dig the theory anyway 💕

+Melanie Many people are named "Jacob" or "Ester" or "Jude" not with assosiation with the jewish roots, a;so in Polad. Also in Poland. Like for 10 boys, 2-3 of them are Jacobs. It's a very popular name in Poland, and Kowalski is a very popular last name.. he's definitly polish if you ask me...

You mean his ancestors*. Also the name Jacob could either be his given name (suggesting american/british parentage) or he just uses it because the name Jakub is so easily exchangable with Jacob. I agree that I have never heard of a connection of the surname Kowalski with Jewish people and that it's definitely a "THIS IS A POLISH PERSON" surname... Also minor correction, it just means blacksmith in a gramatically turned into a surname way, not "son of". That's not really a thing in polish names/surnames the way it is in for example icelandic. Also the way he talkd about his pastries and his recipe for "pączkis" coming from his grandmother suggests to me that his baking skills come from his Polish side of the family. Though you never know with JK and it is a cute theory.
