If coronavirus has taught us one thing it's that we need to become as self sufficient as possible. If we rely on imported produce, as we tend to do with other general items which very often come from China, we can end up in situations where we can end up with all sorts of supply problems and effectively having to pay extortionate prices for food, medical equipment and many other items. We need to start properly supporting our farmers, engineering companies etc
100% mate. Well said. We should be buying British produce and supporting our wonderful farmers and producers. If we all did it the country will soon get back on its feet.
@alanrtment porter We don't need to teach them anything. They wouldn't listen anyway. What we need to do is cut all trade with them. We can grow our own crops. We can produce enough beef and lamb to feed the nation. We can provide enough milk. We have loads of gas and coal. We can be self sufficient but we chose to rely on imports and now we are paying the price.
I live in suburban America and can't keep houseplants alive, so I'm a total loss to explain why I'm utterly enthralled by a RU-vid channel about a UK gentleman farmer and his beautiful farm in the Cotswold Hills...but here I am. I've watched every episode with great interest and can't wait for more!
Very informative Harry and I like the diversity of content, you are really helping non farmers understand the profession. You have a interesting mix of land on your farm. Keep the varied content and Thanks for doing this for everyone
Harry I love your channel. You are a natural broadcaster and presenter. You have a calming relaxing way of explaining things around the farm. I am captivated with every post. Thank you
I'm a big fan of Harry's Garage, but this is the first Farm one I've watched. For someone who has no interest in farming I found it fascinating all the way through. Harry should be presenting Countryfile as well as Top Gear!
Driving thru the crops in a Cagiva Elefant wearing a Panerai while your Defender sits with the seeds in the trunk. Harry have a blessed life and it's a pleasure that he share his views with us.
Absolutely fascinating. You can make even the most intricate details genuinely interesting because you explain the significance of things. It really is a window on the unseen world. Thank you.
Is there a better thing to do on a beautiful day? To ride around your land on a fantastic old Cagiva Elephant. Your lockdown looks appealing from where I am sat. I can't be alone feeling that either. Cheers Harry for lifting my spirits and reminding me what fun it is on two wheels right here in the UK. Top work sir.
I know nothing about farming, stumbled in here from Harry's Garage, but you are just such an interesting person to listen to. I'm hooked. Thanks Harry for keeping me sane during lockdown
What a superb life you have Harry... countryside, farming, land, cars, bikes etc... and all done in style... Harry our aficionado of farming 👌🏼 Btw, lovely to see the preservation of the dry stone walls as well. Would love to see more on the traditional elements of the farm.
There is a real sense of the world slowly turning as I watch your videos, Harry. Things change so gently it's not until you cast our minds back the difference is so apparent. I'm very grateful that I have the opportunity to spend a brief 20 minutes sat down with a cup of coffee and your dulcet tones to sooth away the pressures of an industrial life. Stay safe Harry, hope the weather gives you what you want.
Just found your channel while eating a bacon roll breakfast, you put it over so well and having a few subjects made the video so watchable. I'm from a farming heritage with my Gt Grandad having a market garden mid was from Wrexham and the English border. It was passed down to my uncle and father in the mid 30s. On the outbreak of WWII one had to join the military and my father was chosen in a toss of coins. After the war my fathers unit was employed in war damage repair and on demob was taken on by a civil engineering contractor. Fathers share of the farm was passed to uncle on the understanding he looked after my 4 aunties. My school holidays were often spent at the farm, which living in North London was great to be out on the land. Learnt to drive a grey Massey, well steered it along the crop rows as the pickers loaded the trailer. On leaving school I started working on a dairy farm nr. Potters Bar, Herts. The farm produced all the feed for the herds, and I rose to be a tractor driver on an old TVO/Petrol Fordson fitted with the luxury seat option, a folded hemp sack!!!. Later moving to a Blue Fordson Major and then the Massey Ferguson 65. I gave up farming in the autumn as dad had proved his point that construction paid a lot more money. Sorry this is your channel and here I am giving my life story, well it has kept me busy during the lock down here in Vietnam. Stay safe, thanks
Fantastic stone walls! I love how all the material is there on the ground ready to be used. I was told when stone walling if you pick up a stone, you use that stone otherwise you’ll be there for weeks!
Great video Harry , very informative for people out side the farming world, spring drilling went well for us , don’t think I’ve seen wheat and barley emerge so fast , nor beans come to think of it , can’t believe we are asking for rain now though 👍
Your stone waller is a real artist! Forecast of next week is quite a lot of rain ( and i'm only 40 miles from you so that mustard seed should be fine!)
@@mezalong What? Those walls are beautiful! A bit of a shame about the tree, but there's nothing wrong with making decisions like that. It *is* his land.
nice to see you enjoying the bike on the land reminds me of good times with my grand dad on his farm and yes I miss the lifestyle it was hard which a lot do not see but the good times made up for all the problems
Give our fantastic farmers all the support they need. It's about time we appreciated them more. All that knowledge and skill that puts food and milk + meat on our table. We have wonderful arable + pasture land, let's use it properly. We shouldnt be importing stuff we can grow ourselves. If it adds a penny or 2 to a pint of milk or a loaf of bread so what. Thank you harry for another great vid. Stay safe
@@earthstick The picking season is short, hard work and quite brutal. That's just the way it is. Workers often do 14 hour shifts, they need to.stay near to the crop. I'm not sure what you would have farmers do? They provide accommodation for the workers that come from all over Europe to work hard and earn money. A high percentage of our unemployed could do this. Unfortunately we allow them to laze around on benefits that we pay for. Time for this to stop. If as a nation we can't even be arsed to pick our own fruit then we a genuinely fucked
@@harrysfarmvids I hope you're right. It's scandalous that we rely on imports to feed our own people. You have my utmost respect sir. Please take care and stay safe. Best wishes to you and your family and thank you for taking the time to educate and inform
Another great video, I started off as a Harry's Garage fan but to be honest I think I now enjoy the Farm vids more, he's like a farming Jack Hargreaves (showing my age there). Thanks Harry
Thanks Harry. Your videos help pass the time while we are self isolating. In Canada we also have government help for some crops but nothing like you have in England. Stay healthy
Harry, cars were the subject I followed your 'vlog, however even at my age I am still learning from your 'Harry's Farm' Vlog, brilliant and very informative. Regards, RichardA
Good to have a catch up on Harry's farm, glad the wall got repaired, shame about the tree, it was a self set tree. There is a lot of wild life that will use the wall a home, spring is lovely time of the year, crops growing, flowers coming into bloom, its part of life cycle. look forward to the next one.
Thank goodness for you and thousands like you who have a love and passion for this countries land ,producing our food supply ,,twice last century we were caught out depending on foreign ,people buy British ,buy seasonal ,support uk growers ,uk retailers support our farming industry ,even before the pandemic could I find a uk cabbage.spanish yes , me No,do without till uk sources are around,be honest Harry your videos are so well produced I feel like I’m on the farm with you , thanks again, look forward to next production ,mind how you go.
As usual very informative and interesting. I am from Norfolk farming stock ( maternal grandparents) but still find the films interesting especially in these more modern days. Pleased the walls are kept well maintained and land is left for the birds etc. Norfolk has become very different these days with huge farms etc by UK standards. I also agree we need to think about feeding ourselves and making more of what we need after this Corvid virus,
Thanks for the financial information regarding farming , as most of us haven't a clue in that department . I just eat the loaves and oils , and give little thought to the viability of the process .
Thanks so much for these videos, they're really fun and informative, and a bit of nostalgia for someone who grew up on a farm. Don't mind that you diss US agg sometimes, a lot of it has become unsustainable. This pandemic has a least seemed to help raise people's consciousness about their food supply.
Really informative and an excellent companion channel to Harry's garage - subscribed and watching each new episode. Amazing how you have gone from flood to near drought in a few weeks.
Harry's the coolest farmer. Persols and a paneria. Interesting video, I did dry stone walling when I was at agricultural college, if you put a stone down in the wall then that was where it stayed, no jiggling it about or swapping for another.
Great video Harry, good combination of farm info. along with a bit about the Caviga. Spot on about the need to support UK food production. Any chance of a video with background to the bike please - the Paris Dakar win and how you tracked this one down?
Great video Harry, another fifteen minutes or so of agricultural education. The only way to shape policy is to write it yourself....you would get my vote for environment secretary
I'll be honest, I've seen your channel about several times, but never really watched, I'm subscribed to several other farmers on RU-vid, but wow!...your videos are spot on harry. And very educational. Another sub from me. Take care.
Watched a lot of Harry’s vids both on the Farm and in his Garage. Such an easy bloke to listen to and so informative. I was a city dweller until a couple years or so ago. Now living just down the road from Harry and every time I peer into a field and see activity I actually have a clue as to what’s going on. Thanks H. Keep at it. Although I wonder where you find the hours in the day to do the Farm, the Garage, Evo and a 101 other things. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Brilliant. Always look forward to your videos. So interesting. Thank you so much for the time and trouble you put into giving us such enjoyable content.
Harry it’s nice to see someone who appreciates and is proud of his farm, too many of my farmer friends should of got out of it years ago as all they do is moan , if they lived in the real world then they’d have something to moan about. Love your stone walls too.
Man alive all my thoughts Harry. Thank you for this vid, stay safe..... heard it so many times that farming is a real hand to mouth buisness. Hope as always, you're doing well all the best.
Mr. Metcalfe , thank you for all the great footage from Harry’s Farm and Harry’s Garage . Concerning your farm wall I’m amazed at how structural ly good your stones are . Here in New England in the U.S. farmers cleared their fields from stones and built walls but the stones are all quite round and of odd sizes . The 200 year old walls are not nearly in as good a shape
Harry excellent and informative as ever . i agree about the single farm payments. Sorry about the following pun self sufficiency this the answer, but the chickens are coming home to roost now.
