I love the fact that Harry never reveals what the actual thought behind the songs are. He said that everyone creates their own meaning of the song, and explaining the song would ruin that experience

i think the whole album mean something else to harry, because for artists music is deep and a form to extract emotions and expressions by himself, is about creativity but in the most time, is about expression, ever.... the theory's, experiences, etc is about the others, who will listen the work..... whatever fine line is a masterpiece!
The album goes from the beginning of a relationship, to in the relationship, to the ending of the relationship... to moving on. I see Fine Line as the message after the pain, both will be fine in their futures.
This song is a masterpiece, it speaks to the soul. The build up throughout the whole song, the ups and downs and ending with the "we'll be alright" sums up perfectly the whole album 👏🏼
Ive always thought the album and this song had a double meaning. There’s the one where he talks about his girlfriend, which is, I think, the more obvious one. And then there is the one about finding himself. In lights up he is like questioning who he is, in she I think he is at least partly referring to not knowing his feminine side and like we seen him starting to accept his feminine side a lot more during fine line era for sure, then the TPWK music video we see him being comfortable and dancing around with his feminine side and celebrating it. Then finally with fine line he is saying like a fine line between masculinity and femininity. Like the “I get to thinking of her” kind of referring back to his feminine side that he personified in she. I just love this album because while I think it is about his relationship, I think it is also about accepting himself at the same time, which might have been something he was struggling with around the same time as this relationship
when this song came out people put it over the ending of movies and it just definitely sounds like one of those songs at the end of a movie like idk if youve ever seen call me by your name but this reminds me a lot of the songs used in the movie just very moving and i couldnt even explain why
Harry said "What I hadn’t really experienced before during the making of this record, the times when I felt good and happy were the happiest I’ve ever felt in my life. And the times when I felt sad were the lowest that I’ve ever felt in my life". I'd say that's exactly what Fine Line is meant to represent, and the reason why Harry choose that as the title of the album. The whole album shows this, with songs that feel like an overdose of love and happiness, songs that are bittersweet, and songs that show Harry at his lowest. I personally believe the whole album is about just one relationship, and how much Harry wants to make it work. The album isn't showing a toxic or "bad" relationship, I'd say it just talks about a long term relationship (In To Be So Lonely he says "Don't blame me for falling, I was just a little boy" and in Falling "I'm well aware I write too many songs about you"), and how things get more complicated with time. Of course he has never explicitly said * who * is the album about, but I think it's about one specific person. It could also be a fictional scenario, but I doubt it, since it feels so personal and honest, kind of like seeing something we aren't supposed to, something private. Harry isn't blaming anyone, and even if at first he blamed himself, he ends up accepting that joy and pain are part of life, and by accepting the pain, he's able to heal and keep the person he loves. That's why he says "we'll be a fine line". He isn't running away from things he can't control, he has a choice and he chooses to stay even if it's hard, because he really cares and feeling a bit of pain is better than not being as happy ever again. I think the point isn't to stay in that "fine line", but to understand that they'll feel pain, and feel sadness, but they'll also be the happiest. To accept the fact that they * won't * stay in a middle point, and they don't want to either. And to hope that some day they won't feel pain anymore. As you can see I've thought a lot about this specific song and the album as a whole. I loved your reaction as always.
I see that too. Harry has had to live a fine line trying to hide his love for that one person and willl live that fine line until they finally cross it and make it public.

If we are willing to actually listen, and understand what Harry is trying to tell us, it's really easy to know who he is talking about. He has had way too many pr girlfriends, which doesn't exactly help with making a coherent narrative for Fine Line, where he's obviously talking about spending years with just one person. Also, if it was about * that * girl, does that mean he just moved on after writing THAT album for her? The only way someone would believe that is if they didn't listen to the album.
@@sophiablackthorn Exactly! He started “dating” her just before he went on tour and they “broke up” the same month the tour ended. She also started seeing someone else that same month. She was a beard, it is so obvious. Harry needed someone to outwardly write his songs about so that people wouldn’t think it was about a man. Olivia will serve the same purpose for HS3.
its one of the best Harry songs for me, its just masterpiece for real. It's seems as if he was repeating this phrase"we'll be fine line, we'll be alright" over and over again to convince himself and that person that they can work it out, they can be this fine line, as if they were walking on a rope and trying not to fall on two different sides... Thinking about it make me cry so maybe its time to stop
This song has such a cinematic vibe to it. Sounds like finally finding redemption. Especially the instrumental towards the end. What an out-of-worldly experience this song is.
Fine Line is about Harry himself. How he dealt with a certain part lf his life. The "spreading you open is the only way of knowing you" is a way to say that you only know your true self once you tear every part of yourself apart and accept each part. Harry said the album is about self discory and self reflection.
If you listen to the a cappella version you can hear him singing “all alone” 2x behind the instrumentals near the end so I hear it as “we’ll be alright all alone”
I honestly didn’t know how I felt about this song on the album . But seeing it live is such an emotional experience. It’s a perfect ending to the album .

I’ve listened to this so many times but this is the first time I’ve put this together. I imagine the fine line refers to the first verse “you’ve got my devotion, but man, I can hate you sometimes.” So it’s a fine line between love and hate. That in itself is a saying.

This song 😫👌🔥 Your interpretation of this song is exactly my thoughts! 👏 I’ve noticed that throughout the album, he talks about the good times (the sex, the adoration, love, etc) and bad times (toxicity, arguments, sadness/heartbreak) in his relationship and also self-acceptance/reflection! Just like you said, Fine Line is a sweet way to end the album and I’ve always interpreted it as him saying it’s a fine line between the good and bad in their relationship but that they will make it work/ they will be alright in the end! 😭 The build up of the instruments throughout the song as well as his vocals. The falsetto “Ooos” in the end, that reflects the beginning of the song!!! Ughhh my ears get so blessed when I hear this song and I cry every damn time!! 😫👌 So many layers, it’s just perfect! Such a vulnerable song imo!

For a really moving experience you must watch a video of fine line from a live LOT concert! It was an amazing thing how the coordination they were able to make with the build up of the lyrics and all of the instruments as well as the lighting! It was an heightened experience of an already incredible song! 💛💛💛
Fine Line is basically about how harry find himself and the growth he's had after getting out of a bad breakup. Fine Line is a very cohesive album starting with golden, dore you, and watermelon sugar as fun and being in love and then the next tracks are about heartbreak and self discovery then ending it with Fine Line which basically alludes to life, having a fine line between pain and growth.
Fine Line is hands down one of the best songs harry has ever written and I love that we can all relate to it. It's nice being able to listen to it and feeling how I want to feel about it and then hearing how other people feel about it. It is complex, beautiful, and a strong end to an album.
I feel like this song is more about being depressed like when he says “put a price on emotion, I’m looking for something to buy” and feeling empty and just telling yourself you’ll be alright yk

i’ve always interpreted this music in a mental health issue setting, not in a romantic setting. like me and my depression/anxiety will always be a fine line cause it’s never going away but at the same time i’ll fight my hardest and in the end i’ll alright
"Those things in the background" basically make this song. This one grew on me. It is a perfect ending to the perfect album, and it truly ties up all the feelings that are experienced on it. I also love the sadness in the beginning, but slowly it grows into this joyous crescendo.. telling to his love that "we'll be allright" - even if they make it or not. It is so pure and honest, such a Harry thing to say. This album truly is his catharsis, and I hope he will be happy.
I feel like that 'fine line' is generally about what you said, like good and bad and toxic and healthy, but more about love and hate. Also because at the beginning Harry says 'you've got my devotion but man I can hate you sometimes'. So I feel like he's saying 'even though sometimes I hate you I still love you', or even 'I hate that I can't hate you because I love you'. So it's something they can always work on, because the love is there. Great reaction as always!
Oh, they’re no longer together but, as many of us mistakenly do, tend to think obsessively and cede to the toxic compulsion to go back when a good relationship already turns for the worse. This lyricist Harry has indeed grown up.

The album from beginning to the end is his journey from the start of the relationship with Camille to where he’s at when he wrote it. The album is in 4 sections/sides. The first side is him falling in love with and being in love with Camille, the album shifts with Lights up, that song is about their break up. It leads into side B which is all about his feelings and struggles over the end of the relationship. ‘She’ is the turning point where he’s realising that his perfect woman is still out there and until he knows who she is, he’s just daydreaming about her, this leads to side C where he’s in a better place and is remembering all the good times that they had together. TPWK is him remembering who he is and what he stands for (he’s now able to focus on something other than the feelings he had over the relationship) and then we finish with side D ‘Fine Line’, now that he’s been through every emotion and has come out of it, he’s now able to reflect over the whole relationship and realise that he has mixed emotions over it...he loved her but hated her sometimes etc but regardless of everything they’ll be alright.

You’re about to see that my post will get a lot of ‘delusional’ comments or laughy faces but it’s because his ‘fans’ refuse to believe that any of Harry’s girlfriends are real, they think he’s gay, so believe that every single relationship he’s ever had is PR (unless you’re a Larry in which case god can’t help you) he’s currently dating actress/director Olivia Wilde (who I’m sure will feature heavily throughout his forthcoming album) he’s been with her for over a year, they live together and everything, they’re currently in England and have been for that past 6+ weeks with her two kids but apparently it’s all fake😂😂 my point is, I’d stay away from the comment section if your looking for information. I’d either just listen to the music and take it at face value or just Google it yourself.

It’s very different to what music is out now but that’s why I think it’s so good, as he’s willing to be different in a time when everybody follows suit. And I want to add something, Harry said that he likes to listen to records track by track, to know what story it tells, that's why he does the same with his music.
