War of the Ring by Ares Games Harsh Rules Tutorial Series Part 1: • Harsh Rules - Learn to... Part 2: • Harsh Rules: Learn to ... Part 3: • Harsh Rules: Learn to ... Part 4: • Harsh Rules: Learn to ...
Thanks for catching that, Josh. I see it now on pg. 37 of the rulebook. "Every time the fellowship moves, the Fellowship Progress Counter is advanced one step on the Fellowship Track..." I must've got the individual companion movement rules stuck in my head.
@@harsh-rules Hey Harsh, I really appreciate your guides. Although this bit got me confused and played it wrong my first game. Can you make an errata in the description or pin this comment? Much obliged and keep up the great work.
I think 9:16 is incorrect: they draw a hunt tile rather than immediately revealing the Fellowship, and that hunt tile MAY reveal the Fellowship. This is such a big game that a few minor mistakes are... well, to say the least, inevitable, so don't worry about it - just pointing it out so you can slip in an annotation or something to make sure people don't make that mistake (I know many people learn from your videos - you really helped me understand Hannibal just a few weeks ago, so keep going!).
If the hunt roll is a success the Fellowship is always revealed as I understand it. But there are tiles that also can reveal the Fellowship as these tiles can be drawn based on cards as well as hunt roll. This i covered in Part 1 of this learn to play series. :)
@@runehomme6082 Yeah, but I think that might be incorrect: you are not always revealed by a successful hunt roll. Only when a hunt tile with the reveal icon is drawn. (I just checked the rules, and they seem to agree with me... but I don't know for certain).
Llamad Mow , yeah I just looked it up as well end you are correct. Good to find this out before playing as it will make a big difference og the Felloship chances👍
Wanted to clarify for the hunt after moving the fellowship at 8:25 When you spend the character die to move the order goes Move > Hunt > Add free peoples die to hunt box This means that 0 blue dice in the hunt box makes the hunt successful on a 6, and each after lowers by 1. Page 37 or the rulebook under 'Moving the Fellowship' : 'If the fellowship moves more than once in a turn, the Hunt becomes increasingly dangerous- every time an action die is used to move the fellowship, that die is added to the hunt box AFTER the hunt has been completed
1 MISTAKE in VIDEO at 14:29. The RULEBOOK (of the WOTR-second edition) states that with Event Action Die u can play for its event ANY EVENT CARD and I quote "REGARDLESS OF ITS TYPE", so not just strategy cards (as wrongly stated in this video). Also u are not limited by Palandir simbol, u can play any event from your hand. Anyway the rulebook it's very big and complex and u did such a good job to show us and make us understand very easely the rules of WOTR game.
Great video. Really helped my understanding of this beast of a game. Would like to see a rules video of Space Empires 4X with the different expansions, especially the Close Encounters expansion.
Only second video watching. First day I enjoy the break down of each element. What I have noticed with the Part 1 and Part 2 intro is the music is to loud compared to the video content. This has two downsides. First users will have to turn down the volume at the start and then increase the volume after intro is playing. (Hopefully this was fixed in future episodes. Like I said this is the second video so far.) The second and biggest issue, I would say, because the loudest part of your video is very early on this is the limit at which advertising plays on. So while watching your video, after the intro requires the volume to be turned up, when a advertisement plays it jumps all the way to the max, based on the loudness of you intro. The constant turning up and down the volume gets repetitive and maybe a turn off to watching future videos, if the balance of the volume isn’t is equal across the video. Like I said I enjoy watching just something to consider in the future.
So far this series has been very helpful. Quick question about the Witch King's movement. I understand that it cant move into regions with strongholds controlled by free peoples. Does this also apply to regions with cities controlled by free peoples or is it just regions with strongholds? For an army action, I understand you dont need a leader to move an army but do you need a leader to attack or seige? For the event action, you said that you could spend the event action die to play a "strategy card". I did notice though that character cards also have that same icon in the top left. Can character cards also be played by spending the event action die, or just with a character action die? I apologize for asking many questions. I really want to play this game as correctly as I can. Again the series have been very helpful compared to the instructions that come with the game.
Moving the Minions with the Character Action die result, also allows the Shadow to move all his Nazgul, right? ^_^ Not just the Minions, even though it's called 'Move Minions' in the manual.
LOL 1st video, "games takes 2-3 hours" 2nd video "this game takes more than 3 hours to play"... reality this game takes more than 5 hours to play!!! lol
so in order to play the Red Arrow as an event there are two potential requirements: an event die icon and a muster die icon. Do I need to spent one or both of those dice? Thanks, your video is fantastic!!
QUESTION : WHEN USING A CHARACTER DIE TO MOVE THE FELLOWSHIP DOES IT GO DOWN THE TRACK BY ONE SPACE OR A NUMBER OF SPACES EQUAL TO THE LEADERSHIP OF THE GUIDE?
