Although my first language is german I understood fewer than half of the rules watching a german tutorial of this game. Your video is easy to understand and I can follow the rules step by step so it's a real fun to learn. Thank you very much!
It says near the beginning of the rule book, in the Neutral Territories section, that fighters can NOT fly over these territories. These territories are completely impassable by all units.
You're a saint for making this. Might've jumped the gun a bit going from Monopoly, to Betrayal at the House on the Hill, to this. 3 hours of trying to figure it out on my own and I found this video. Appreciate it a ton.
(Might have already been mentioned) The Rule Book does state there are 4 Neutral Territories that cannot be entered or flew over! Basically copmpletely unused! (We have gone as far as using the "Nuked Terrotory" Markers from RISK 2210AD, but you can use anything to cover up those as a reminder.)
Simple and informative. I just bought the game and needed a friendly, simple guide to show my missus. She was a bit flummoxed with some of the other guides.
Regarding air movement... I find it strange. In the 1941 version, you can't pass through or over a neutral territory. If that isn't in the rules, I'll house rule that in. Makes sense, in my opinion.
Just bought the game today... whille im waitin for it to come to meh this vid teached me rules in a waaay better way than other vids even tho this vid is longer but its worth it
AaAAAAAAaAaAA that trAnsition gives me the clusters • ~ < AnywAy perfect video! I actuAlly understAnded it now! Its just simple all along! I'll wAtch this all day!
Another great video. One question:On the unit list breakdown (at about 21:50) are the silhouettes for the submarines and the transports in the wrong column? The IPC cost for each is correct at the bottom but it looks like the pictures of the two ships have been transposed under each others heading. I apologize if I am incorrect.
No problem. I do have one other then I'll stop bugging you with questions on your awesome and obviously time consuming work. On the mobilize new units Phase #5 around 36:14 is Germany's starting total unit production power 13 or 8? The breakdown along the bottom shows 8 but the list on the top right says 13.
I just found the game, brand new, for only $28 on amazon. Should have it next week. We are excited to play after watching both of your tutorials and playing 1941. Thanks again.
Some corrections to Germany setup: 10:44 - you said Norway gets 2 infantry and 1 fighter, but you only show an icon for 1 infantry. 11:01 - you said Poland gets 2 infantry, but there is no grey bar under the infantry icon. 11:51 - you said Morocco gets 1 infantry and 1 artillery, but you only show an icon for 1 infantry.
I have a question about the fighters patrolling bombers during strategic bombing raids; do the fighters just shoot at each other? Or if there are "unprotected" bombers with defending fighters do they shoot at the bombers too? Awesome video by the way!! Will definitely be sending this to all my friends who want to get into a&a!!!
Awesome!!! Thanks for video, very helpful. I have a question, if for example a German territory has an AAA unit and Russia occupies that territory with infantry, what happens to the AAA unit, is it remove from board or Russia takes possession of it.
Glakul, per the rulebook, the AAA has no combat value and is automatically destroyed when units invade and take the territory. This is one of the differences between the AAA and the classic white AA of the previous games.
For strategic bombing can the AAA guns be used? I heard they dont do anything and i also heard that interceptors can choose if they want to take out a bomber or an escort.
1st Question: No. In this version of A&A the Industrial Complex has "built in defenses." 2nd Question. Yes. On a roll of 2 or less, the Attacker can choose their target. So yes they could select a bomber or an escort..
1. I don't quite understand the currency mechanic. Is the nation production chart at the top of the board a symbol of how many IPC's you have or how many you produce each turn? If it's the latter, then it would seem like you would get a lot of IPC's that you would have in excess based of the prices of the units. For example, the most expensive unit is the battleship and it costs only 20 IPC's, while Germany produces 40 IPC's a turn so it could produce 2 a turn. 2. A follow up, do only the territories with Industrial Complexes produce IPC'S? 3. You're videos are great! They're very informative, keep it up!
1) It's how many you produce each turn, and you'd be surprised how much you can make in the late game, especially for Germany, Japan and the USA. You can buy quite a lot, Germany can buy 13 infantry units and has the industrial complexes to be able to do so and deploy all on them, but it's where you place them that's important. For example, the UK can afford to buy 3 fighters, but that's for an empire spread over the globe with 3 fronts they are usually fighting in (Europe, Africa and Asia). In your example, Germany could buy 2 battleships, but if the USA is helping the UK in Europe then that's a naval race Germany will definitely lose, and it will leave their front with Russia vulnerable as they are getting no reinforcements there. 2) No, all territories with value produce the listed amount of IPCs. I believe industrial complexes can only be built in territories with an IPC value of at least 2, and they can produce as many units as the IPC value of the territory they are in. The only territories that do not produce IPCs are Iceland, Greenland, Sudan and the small Pacific islands.
I have two questions. 1) can you have your battleship take one hit in a battle and then have another ship take another hit after to prevent the loss of a casualty? And 2) what is the submarine surprise attack?
1) battleships can take a single hit without sinking, if your fleet takes more hits than your battleships can absorb then you will lose ships. I remember how battleships have absorbed a hit by turning them on their side/upside down. For example if you have 2 battleships and 2 cruisers and take 3 hits, two can be absorbed by the battleships and you would then lose a cruiser. Battleships can only take a single extra hit each round, and damage to them is recovered at the beginning of rounds (you may need to be adjacent to a friendly territory, I can't quite remember how it worked in 1942 as I remember the 1940 system) 2) Surprise attack means any hits the submarine scores get removed from the battle before they can fire back. For example, if a submarine gets a hit on a lone cruiser then the cruiser will not get to fire back. If they miss, then the cruiser will get to fire back, and if the submarine survives they can choose to try the surprise attack again or submerge (removing it from the battle like a retreat, except this can also be done by defending submarines)
I have the 1st edition, its pretty fun and very similar to the 2nd edition. The 2nd edition in my experience is a bit more fair. For any new players is recommend the 2nd edition just bc it's a lot cheeper than the 1st edition.(you can find the 2nd edition on Amazon for a good price) Hope this helps
Great video, 2 questions come to mind though. 1: so if an aaa gun can only fire at 3 planes maximum do you have to have 3 aaa guns in that territory to do this? or just one that can fire at 3 planes if that amount of planes has entered the territory? 2: when land units can't blitz through the territory that has an aaa gun or industrial complex do they still take possession of that territory and the aaa gun and industrial complex become theirs automatically? thanks!!
One AAA can fire at up to 3 planes. For example if two planes attack a territory with an AAA the AAA fires two shots. In another example, if 4 planes attack a territory with and AAA the AAA fires 3 shots. Yes the tanks do retain control of those territories as long as there is no combat to be resolved. Any AAA guns belonging to the opposing power are destroyed though.
Can you maybe explain the end more detailled? Dont get it, with the amphibious assaulut, the offshore shot and the submarine first strike. Another question: Can Bomber and Fighter attacked by infantry or any ship? Or do you NEED an AAA gun? But what is on sea? I mean, some ships have better ANTI Air defense or some have none anti air (like Submarine) Maybe, you can make an extra short video to explain the specials a little more with examples. That would be great. Thanks for the good job :-)
Watch Part 2 of the Axis & Allies Revised Edition at 10:50. The Amphibious Assault explanation is more recent and hopefully clearer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ccbAFjh5nnw.html. And yes, Aircraft can be attacked by Infantry and ships.
About the cluster trAnsition, can't u make an appropriate trAnsition like a "slides" like in the military when they talk About the plAns? Also it gave me the clusters • ~
Em Gee the one I use isn’t available anymore (just checked). There’s several available that can track IPC’s and apparently can even calculate battle results
Given the unrealistic defence of industrial complexes, have games been played without that weird rule? Does doing that somehow throw off the balance of the game?
It depends if you are referring to 'fighter defense' or the defender rolling dice at all. Technically AAA guns no longer fight in a strategic bombing raid. For there to be no risk of losing bombers for the attackers, that would greatly throw off the balance. The fighter participation isn't needed as many A&A games have worked without it.
Great video.. I think you could've possibly skipped the 15-20 mins of telling where the starting units are setup... not a big deal, but not really necessary as that doesn't seem to be rules, but more of setup. No worries though, because with the magic of my mouse I am able to skip ahead to the last 25 mins, and watch the meat of the rules explanation... I really appreciate you put this together. As always, just an opinion... and it is easy to comment when you haven't put all the love and care and TIME into making the video... so with upmost respect, I say thank you and well done!
I am not entirely convinced that destroyers are not as powerful as Cruisers I mean this isn’t evidence or what not but in World of Warships, the destroyer can easily destroy more ships than a cruiser.
UnlockingSnow73 world of warships has a rock-paper-scissors sot of thing lets add subs for the purpose of the rock-paper-scissors Battleships kill Cruisers Cruisers kill Destroyers Destroyers kill Submarines Submarines kill Battleships Aircraft carriers kill anyone who goes off alone Everyone kills spotted Aircraft carriers
It's quite inaccurate in that way, realistically trying to take on a battleship with a destroyer in a 1v1 fight is suicide for the destroyer, and only really works in game due to balancing mechanics such as detection range (realistically, excluding radar, both ships would see each other at about the same time). Cruisers also heavily outclass destroyers in almost all ways except anti-submarine work, costs (destroyers are much cheaper) and possibly torpedoes, although in particular many Japanese cruisers had similar torpedo armaments to destroyers while also being much tougher and having many more, bigger guns. 1v1, destroyers are definitely at the bottom, but they were still very useful fleet assets.
