Week 4, I think it was a good dose of reality. I don’t think we prepared to dominate and exploit weaknesses like Illinois did. All the little things add up-good lesson to learn early in the season. 1-0 this week GBR
@HuskerMinnie Illinois game in with a really strong game plan on offense and it showed. I can’t believe tommi hill was the first player they went after
I think my biggest takeaway is that Nebraska needs to play all 4 quarters of tough football. If we can learn how to finish games, we will surely win big games I think.
Biggest takeaway? Where was our vaulted defense? Illinois kept us out of their backfield and their QB was picking up apart. We made so many dumb penalties. Let’s get it back Saturday morning!!!
I think the loss of Corcoran really didn't help us any on the offensive side of the ball. Our O-line looked horrible in OT, and our defense was rough all game. They looked undisciplined, too many stupid penalties, and they were missing a big play maker in Tommi Hill. I think Tony White did as best as he could with what we had on defense last week, but we still look abysmal regardless. You take away those hands to the face penalties and we win by at minimum 1 TD... Overall we looked the worst we have all season against Illinois, and even though it's an in conference team and they're supposed to be a "tougher" opponent, that absolutely would've been a win if we showed more discipline on both sides of the ball. Looking forward to this weekend to see what Rhule and his coaching staff have done to get us back on track going forward, and maybe to correct the mistakes that were made last Friday.
Thank you Conner! I was looking forward to your comments after the loss has a chance to settle. No way am I down after this loss, it's an opportunity to learn and readjust. And as Adam Carriker said, it's year two of the rebuild. Get real! But always, GBR!
The good news is that there are plenty of games left in the season, and 6 or more wins is still feasible. The bad news is that there is less leg room, so this team really needs to keep its guard up going forward. GBR!
There may be some disagreement on this, but the Nebraska and Illinois game felt evenly matched. I will give credit when it's due: Illinois was well-prepared and they successfully capitalized off of the penalties committed by Nebraska. That being said, Nebraska can still recover from this loss, and I think we will finish 7-5 if not better. But, the Huskers will need to step up these next few weeks, and I believe they will, GBR!
8 - 4 is doable with our schedule, but work needs to be done. Big Ten is here and it's not as easy as the first three games. It's going to be an up hill battle every game. We have the talent, not we need the discipline
Nebraska came out flat footed physically and mentally. Look at the play where R. Johnson runs himself out of bounds. On that same play Corcoran is standing there like a duff when the ball is snapped. It threw the whole play off. My personal opinion is that the players listened to all the accolades and hype about them in the media and they started to think they were all that. Like Saban said, “Rat Poison”. Then when they realized they were getting smacked around they got frustrated and started playing stupidly. Part of that is on the players. The other part is on the coaches for not getting them mentally right before and during the game. I would love to know if the special teams coaches are creating true high pressure scenarios for the kickers and punters in practices. Everyday they should be making those kicking units have to face the starters on D in real world situations with big consequences for missing kicks or getting punts blocked, like make the special teams units run every stair in Memorial Stadium or something. These kids have everything and some are paid more than I’ll ever make. They’re professionals, time to make them perform and act like such.
tbh I think it was good for us to lose now so Dylan can learn of his mistakes ,also fix the holes in the defense better to lose to a ranked opponent( although it would have felt good if we had beaten them) so it fuels us to beat Rutgers and Indiana
You made the same point i have been! The old players from the previous regime! When they go, the problems go with them. historical nugget, the bad mentality started when they fired Bo, then got worse when they fired Riley. Players stopped caring because they were tired of coaching changes. We have to ride out the disappointment and keep rhule or this will never turn around. These guys know where the baseline is now. Now they can go out and push for what they want because they know how much they need to get there.
my biggest takeaway is that nebraska leaves too many points off the board. missed FG, settling for a FG instead of a TD in the red zone. missing a wide open TE for a walking TD. We did that kind of stuff against UNI as well. We're a lot better of a team than last season, but we still struggle to execute.
As i have said in the past three years, great vid ! Sometimes you put into words what is on my mind.............the adage " Great minds think alike " is appropriate . Stay healthy and G B R !!!
My take-away from Nebraska's loss to Illinois: A lot of our wallets were lighter ATS and or straight up when the game was over. Looks like PB&J will be served as the main course this week...
To be considered legit, they have to stop losing games to anybody in the conference not named Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan. Eventually it is going to kill their recruiting
Something I've realized is we've started the last few seasons with conference play, and we usually came up short, and 0-1 is a terrible feeling. However, being 3-1 sounds a helluva lot better, and I have complete confidence in this team coming out with a passion this Saturday at 11.
Dylan spoke at the pastgame press conference. He took responsibility for the loss. Said they need to work harder so they aren't in this position again. Reminded me a lot of the Tebow speech. This was the wakeup call the team needed. I can't wait to see where they go from here.
Yagh sadly we are in a building part and we let ourselves get the cart before the horse, but it was nice to go into the game with a winning mindset as fans
I disagree with Matt Rhule's take with the press if he did it fact blame the upperclassmen if he said the freshmen and transfers didn't choke. Dylan Raiola fumbled in back to back plays, began overthrowing wide open receivers, and seemed affected by the big moment. Illinois controlled the line of scrimmage and seemed to be the better team. We are still a 7-9 win team. That's huge progress. GBR!
I hear that. I’ve been a husker fan since 1968 when Barry Alvarez was playing linebacker. Nothing really surprises me . However if we don’t win six games and not go to a bowl game that will shock me . GBR
Appreciate the fair take. People acting like this is the Nebraska of last year is nuts. This team is way better! Just working out the kinks and identity still. Also missing some key pieces.
Had a feeling not playing the starters for 4 quarters the first 3 games wasn't good conditioning for the first BIG10 game that requires 4 full quarters of smash mouth football
Can someone tell me why we aren't playing our best running back? Emmitt johnson is by far the most complete back we have, best vision best footwork best results. Dowdell runs straight forward with lot of power and that's great but I haven't seen him make 1 man miss this year. Rhamir is a 3rd down back. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone wondering why we aren't playing our best running back. If I was him ide honestly transfer.
Nah, i love what dowdell brings for us. Back to that power, yards after contact football. Hes plenty elusive & has great burst hes bounced it outside & ran away from the defense even hes actually a well balanced back imo. I think if Emmitt was truly our best back then hed be starting. Hes clearly not showing enough in practice or maybe we are just saving him bc the talent we have is enough & his talent isnt so great that hes that far ahead of everyone else that we need him playin...
My concern is our continuing ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Rhule said they played tight in the second half. It’s like a golfer who has the yips.
For me, I still maintain that both the OL and DL positions have had bad recruiting and development. We are average because our older average players stayed. So, still a couple years away from better recruitment and still development. I remember when the fan base and Coach Frostvwere stating we were one player away from being back. We weren't even one OL person away. Today, we could still have every spot on the OL have better players and development. If we could humble ourselves and acknowledge this we could make a physical and mindset shift to improve.
Our Defense started getting tired towards the end of the third-quarter. Illinois started running the ball. I think we’re not deep enough yet. Illinois Defense committed to stop the run and make Dylan beat them. It wasn’t our day. But I believe our day is coming. Just one man’s opinion.
Hey again Connor! This is my 2nd comment after having just finishing your video. My expectations? The SAME as before we lost to Illinois; 9-3 for the regular season. I had us losing to the 3 away games in the final 5. Now we need to just best Iowa which is VERY do-able, IMHO. I ALMOST had us going 10-2 with losses only to OSU and USC. The only reason I picked the Hawkeyes to beat us, is the difficulty in playing in Kinnick Stadium. I initally had us at 7-0 going to Columbus, and still think we will be 6-1 and be back in the Top 20. At the end of the regular season, I think we will be the 4th or 5th best team in the B1G EIGHTEEN! Here is my question for you: Isn't it high time the B1G X CHANGES names??? i envy the SEC who could have 20 teams, and STILL be the SEC!!! 🤣😂🏈 GBR!!!!! 💖💖
We aren't losing to USC. Big 10 wannabe teams are going to get their butt kicked by even lower level Big 10 teams. Washington/Northwestern is the outlier, believe me.
We were never gonna go undefeated. Might as well be them cause they're pretty good & sometimes you need a wakeup call. Hopefully 6-1 going into Ohio State with some momentum. You never know, its college football and we aren't a bad team
The quick short passing attack will expose Nebraska’s defense and neutralize the huskers pass rush. Young inexperienced players will make mistakes in critical moments of a game. How the team responds from here on will say a lot about their character.
The takeaway is that there is nothing new under the sun. How we were ranked after beating all the pud competition is beyond me. But I digress, it's the same old thing different day. Losing close games blah blah blah, I'm so over it already.
I can see 6 wins and maybe 7 but after that it is a coin toss. A bowl game will be nice but these kids on the team now have never had a winning season. Once they get over that hump I think they will be good but until they do this season could get loooong. You still make sense and know more than the other pundits. You are the best. Thank you for your summations..
To Connor, myself, and all my fans who saw the red flags in the UNI game, I salute you. To all the casuals who were trynna tell us just be happy we are 3 and 0 they were holding back blah blah... Next time sit down and listen 🤫 its called Corn Crazed for a reason folks. We crazy but also, we are right 😮
My biggest takeaway is they still look like an undisciplined frost team and the defense looked like dog doo doo SMH!! And they got to play better in the second half the second half of all four games also looked like dog doo doo 🌽🏈
We lost in the one way i thought we wouldn’t, by punching our defense in the mouth over and over. For how aggressive we were for the last few games, they looked lethargic and uninterested. Constant blown assignments, no ability to put pressure on the qb. And non existent run defense. I believe they got complacent, and when they realized they were in jeopardy of loosing. The Defense laid down and accepted it.
Obviously, everybody’s bummed about the loss. Nobody’s ever happy with a loss, even if we’re supposed to lose. But it’s not the end of the world you know initially I think everybody was down like you said, but having some time to be away from it and reflect on, it’s just the fourth game of the season, we still have a lot of football left to play you know I just would like to see us finish with the winning record this year and hopefully get into a bowl game. I don’t care about the national championship at this point because it’s not gonna happen with this team we have a lot of young players that are still learning, but everything is trending in the right direction. So it’s not wishful thinking to say that we could end up in a bowl game and that bowl game you know that’s all I’m really hoping for this season.
Three significant problems in my eyes: Can’t score more than 7-points in the second half. Special Teams is incredibly inconsistent and hurts us several times per game Penalties!!! We’re averaging just one Nader 70-yards per game, which is every bit as harmful as 1-2 turnovers per game. Too soon to panic, but these things have to get corrected or we’ll lose even more games we’re favored to win… GBR!
My biggest thing is why can we never have the D and O on the same page? Last year our d was the pride now this year they are a let down and the O is doing enough to keep us in it.
Why haven’t our o-line deficiencies been addressed? I feel like our line has been the broken elephant in the room for years. Recruiting needs to be a priority here.
They absolutely have. Nebraska has added two power 5 starters from the portal on OL and they brought in a 4 star Lineman #2 OT in his class last season. On defense they added multiple in recruiting who are already playing
I'm not all that worried about the offense. I am concerned about the left side of the line with the injuries, but I'm in wait and see mode. However, I'm still not completely sold on the 3-2-5 defense. Especially in the Big 10 I feel like a 4-3 would be so much better. I love TW, but I'm not sure schematically it's going to work against these bigger, physical teams.
The inability to adjust or even change the game plan up a little on defense is frightening. “Bend don’t break” defense is the absolute worst. It feels like every 3rd down their offense faced was 3rd and short or like 3rd and 6 at worst. Absolutely can not be giving up 1st and 2nd against better teams. Rhule/White need to adjust or OSU is gonna put 60 on us
I had to think about this video. The way I feel about it all is that multiple things can be true. Yes the way our players play is the most controllable aspect of the game, but what I will say is every team makes mistakes on execution. Even the likes of Georgia and Ohio state. Do you need to make sure those mistakes not critical and step up? Yes. Did player execution cost the game yes. Our coaches can be held responsible as well. Making sure our back ups are ready when you know we are not deep on the O line is a problem. That’s on them. Making sure the play calling is correct and that the team is prepared for the pulling of our defensive players to open those gaps or not correctly stepping forward on the QB run is our coaches fault for not getting them properly prepped for that. Is that the reason for this lose yes. Was there at least 11 points in bad calls slash a lopsided balance in calls that cost us the game. Yes. Could we have overcome those calls from coaching and player execution? Yes, but that is not saying that, that is the only reason we lost? No! We need to keep shouting about what makes us angry to get it changed. The players can focus on overcoming bad calls but as a fan hopefully writing the NCAA for changes to get games more fair when we are in the age of technology where we can get AI assist in calls, better instant replay that is communicating to the refs, green dotting the ball down location through a tracking system to make sure you are not getting shorted on yards by line refs, etc. should all be possible and easily affordable to any school in the big 4 conferences.
Kinda funny what was mentioned about the upperclassmen being tight because of all the losing. One would think we have several players starting who have played for several years. Truth be told, we had three Friday night, and one quickly left with injury. Those three...Ty Robinson, Bryce Benhart, and Turner Corcoran. I guess you might consider adding Isaac Gifford to the list. Also, Dylan already anointed as the #1 pick after his junior year? He's been great, but calm down already. There's a long, LONG way to go for him to be the #1 pick. We haven't seen him play a great defense yet. And, no, don't call Illinois' defense great, their simply good.
Penalties, is all I need to say. If you get to many. It's just like a turnover. We gave them almost a 100 yards alone in penalties yards. Way to much 50 or less should be where we are this year.
Im definitely still down after that loss. I predicted a 5-2 going into ohio st so I shouldn't be upset but like youve said I think its the fact that we should've won. We lose a close game and we didn't miss opportunities maybe id feel different. I still expect 7-8 wins. My question is, with hutmacher and robinson struggling in that game, Do you think we shouldve seen poppel just a little bit to 1-give rest to the big guys and 2-get experience since he is the only DT. GBR
Illinois played their best game and it got them to overtime. When they had the opportunity to make a play they seized it. Nebraska unarguably left 14 point on the field and their defense played a pretty bad second half. Illinois didn’t look like the better team. They looked like a worse team that knows how to play 4 quarters. I haven’t seen Nebraska play a full game this season. Illinois didn’t have a chance to win that game in regular time. Nebraska had at least 3 opportunities and didn’t get it done. Nebraska has to learn to start taking souls instead of letting theirs slip away when their opponent provides an unfaltering challenge.
While I agree with your points, the Illini didn't play a perfect game either, yet still beat the Huskers. The WR fumble came at the end of a 14 yard gain for a 1st down, somebody missed an assignment when Altmyer got sacked and fumbled and a couple passes were dropped by their WR's. But they overcame that and the 90,000 fans bearing down on them to win the game.
The throw to the EndZone (called interception) was not, and could not be an interception, period ! If NU receive bobbled (which there is no overwhelming evidence of that), then the ball hit the ground, (In the END ZONE) and its an incomplete pass. What Bowl Sheet=BIG refs need to be beat in any game along with the opponent.
The Mike Leach virus infected our program long ago and now, like Mike Leach teams, we sukk. Recruit 240lb backs who break tackles, not 195lb guys who should be at UC Davis or Concordia.
Rhule has a history of making bad adjustments at halftime at all of his stops. 2 and 20 all time versus ranked teams including 0 and 15 combined at Baylor and Nebraska. That is an alarming Stat. His actions on the sideline Illuminate a high anxiety and scared coach at times. He is constantly talking to the refs and not showing a calm strength to his players. You can all act dumb, but you see it too.
I'm not going to 8 wins. I'm skeptical. It really depends week to week.i really think we will get to a bowl game, but I have a different prediction. Purdue is not terrible, but im giving it to Nebraska by 7 to ten points. Nebraska is put foe blood. Rutgers is good, but I think Nebraska still has the edge. I'm saying 7 - 14 points. Indianna, is 100% a loss if we play like we did vs Illinois. Ohio State is a loss. UCLA, I'm going to wait and see. It could honestly go either was. Wisconsin, USC are both losses, they play at a different level. Iowa is not the same team, so I am given them the edge. All together, if they can win those either was games, yeah 8 -4 but I'm thinking 6 - 6. Nebraska is still building.
I think Nebraska needs to get Dylan Raiola some weapons, right now you have solid guys, I am talking recruiting some 4 or 5 star wide receivers or getting some developed talent in the portal that can go in top 3 rounds of NFL draft, and I am talking getting that next summer, and getting into the college football playoffs next year because if Nebraska is in "no mans land" after next year, I think Dylan Raiola could hit the portal after next year and let me tell you something, we could see a first 20 million plus NIL athlete if that happens, a seasoned QB with his talent and skillset, big boys would be lining up for him. Considering how BAD michigan passing game looks, I could even see boosters tapping him up, you have Notre Dame, Florida State, Clemson, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Oregon (with it's Nike owner benefactor) ALL needing better QB's with some very wealthy boosters.
The biggest bullshyte that I saw from the polls is that Nebraska dropped a total of 14 spots. meanwhile, OSU got handled and KSU got blown out by a bunch of Mormons and they dropped 6 and 11 points respectively. I know we shouldn't be ranked, but come on. This bias is just disgusting.
Nebraska only dropped 9 spots lol But I get your point. The polls don’t matter cause the people voting aren’t watching football. They just get votes and have to use them
They were out of position, they tripped over themselves (see Hill on the first TD) or the play just tricked them. They still know what their responsibility is. This defense has been installed and being played for two yrs now with these guys.
Need to create some pass rush Don't ever say white will be a head coach Not going to hear a defensive mind coach The OL needs to improve These older players I am sorry but don't know how to win close games Special teams coach Job is on notice
@@CornCrazed thanks for responding Love your stuff watch all the time Also California living I am a teacher and my students all know I bleed Nebraska! Fell in love with Nebraska after they upset 2015 Michigan state But I just don't feel big time schools want a defensive mind coach. I hope I am wrong and he gets his opportunity and the right job is open but i just don't see it. They want that flashy young offensive mind. Tony white has done good things but they got pushed around and guys running wide open I hope they make the might changes To play better defense and get off the field on 3rd down Also if you could mention why Nebraska doesn't target the TEs more especially in the red zone
Keep telling yourself it will get better. Just like with Callahan Pelini Riley frost. Hell one of these time your bound to be right. Keep selling the Koole Aide bro😂
@@CornCrazed Your opinion is that it has gotten better. Mine is that it has not. NU played 3 weak FCS teams and when they faced a modicum of resistance against Illinois at home mind you they found a way to lose. Just like under Frost and Riley. Nothing has changed. NU is lucky to be having another glorified practice against Purdue this week.
