I had a thought for nerfing the widow mine to remove the bonus damage to Shields from the splash so it would take two shots to kill probes with widow mines.
Man, Clem really is just despair. He's so goddamn fast, if he's got momentum, like any at all, watching him makes you think you're not going to be able to shove him off as Protoss, ever. It's a bit of a balance whine, perhaps, but Protoss splash feels terrible against a super top-tier GM terran. Like, disruptors are absolutely cracked against the vast majority of the ladder. Against the players that don't have the speed to micro their vikings while splitting and stimming and macroing behind it (aka everybody but about a dozen terrans) disruptors are godlike and storm/colossus crap on a bioball. Against Clem? Disruptors are basically rolling the dice and praying he was looking at his base or dropping mules or something. Your templar are emp'd all the time and the vikings are sniping your warp prisms while he's styling on your ground army. It's amazing to watch. Thanks for suffering for the rest of us Captain.
I feel like they should revert the supply change on the disruptor from 4 back to 3 or make it so you don't need as many, like maybe a couple seconds buff to the cooldown
Its not a balance whine its imbalanced indeed. Protoss is dependend on Terran to make mistakes... Best and more less only real big zoning tool, the Disruptor, only functions if the Terran is not paying attention. So as long as the Terran isn't really doing any major mistakes, Toss is in a losing position over time due to the lag of efficient trades. Obviously this only really applies on the highest level of gameplay because in lower elos its quite the opposite --> Disruptors get insane damadge almost all the time and Liberators are either not sieged at all, sieged in the wrong positions too late, too early or Terran players forget to unsiege them to move away etc. . And its okay that it is that way. The skill required from Terran players to always dodge all the novas is sheer close to impossible. I believe that Protoss players are just not as conistent as the other races besides the fact that they got less supply because of oversized units and a lack of possibilities to counter spell-casters like the Ghost. But on the other hand Blink Stalkers can be imba if used close to perfection. Same goes with the burrow shit that Zerg has... Like its nuts to me how many tools Zerg has and low supply, efficency ratio. Disruptor got nerfed from 3 to 4 supply... Lambo said "It is a good change because i think Spellcasters should not be massable"... 🤦♂Zerg cabal mindset... Look at Ghosts, Infestors, Ravens, Queens... Queen litteraly imba... Many people cry about whenever people say that queens are too strong (because they feel threatened by the idea that the strongest unit that Zerg has but also the most depended unit Zerg has could be changed) but don't understand how ridiculous it is. Just think about it for a moment okay... A spellcaster unit that requires no gas, no real advanced tech structure... That is as fat as a 3-4 supply unit, moves ~as slow as a Thor and fills only 2 supply... Like come on! It couldn't be any better. --> Maybe give the Queen a buff so it only costs 125 minerals and regenerates energy faster 😂Then the Ghosts would be washed in comparison 👍 I actually believe the queen is fine but the abilities are too strong. Take away creep spread... No! Nerf it? No! But change it? Would be a cool thing after many years. Like imagine the queen costs 150 Minerals and 25 Gas... The build time is reduced from 36 to 32 seconds. The Creep Spread is increased from 10 or 11 whatever exactly it is rn to 13 or 14, can be spread after 8 instead of 11 seconds and got 75 instead of 50 hitpoints. Therefore has a nerf that it is visible for whole 10 seconds after the spawning Creep Tumor finished building. This would be so interesting to watch. It would be a rework like the Cyclone... Completely different unit/ building. Like there are so many ways to change the game more often in certain directions back and forth so that there are overall more elements, thus new mechanics (or just way different than what players are used to) and with that there comes fresh air into the game.
I get that it feels unbalanced but thats always gonna be the case when there is a skill disparity. You expect colossus and disruptors to do the trick because thats what traditionally worked. But then in reality what you need is the skill and speed to match clem in his micro. To win at this level you need better stalker control, better prism control, more precise targeting and faster multitasking. And you need clean macro behind it all so you have the critical mass of units to where you win the fight because he is busy dodging disruptors, rather than losing it because you were relying on hits. I am not pulling this stuff out my ass, this is literally how Maxpax wins against Clem. I feel like it is a bit silly to whine because the other guy plays better.
@@enymus3081 I absolutely agree with you that a more dynamic philosphy to patching the game would be really fun. I think it's a great approach to keeping the game fresh and engaging for most of the player base. Even if it breaks the balance each time, it kinda works well if you patch again before you let players figure out and leverage the most abusive strats. But starcraft has hystorically always been seen more akin to chess where people wanted to change the game as little as possible to see how players would evolve the meta over long periods of time. Basically like they did in brood war and that can be very interesting and cool in it's own way.
Harstem you're the man. Everyone was hype watching you outperform your usual level. I hope you maintain this new level of yours. Good luck on the next tourneys!
That was a great run, I was watching some of the games nearly live, rooting for you:). Imho you were really playing very well. I wont say at the moment it looked like your victory against Cleam was probable, but against HeroMarine imho definitely.
I cant find the video I originally commented on but I completed my med school interviews and just got my acceptance letter today!! I’m gonna become a Doctor!!!
Thank you for this retrospective! I was cheering up for SKillous, but I'm extremely happy you've managed to reach that far. Beating both SKillous and Showtime is a solid achievement.
I've taken a break from watching SC2 content for a few months. I was watching religiously. You are looking faster mechanically. Not sure if you agree but keep up the good work!
I'm at 1:24 watching right now, and I keep coming back to the same thing. I really think you need to build an island of batteries and canons in the middle to push your front forward. Take the heat off your expansions that way. Think: late game Airtoss, where they fight over the ground protection, but instead use it for your Groundtoss to bolster your strength further out on the map.
Enjoyed the tournament! Keep it going. I feel like you’re on the verge of some big tournament results. You’re a role model to bronze league heroes like myself all over the world
What a run Your games against showtime were great in all aspects. The play with the hallucination was really good. Maybe not new meta, but it's underrated for sure. Hope you will make it to dallas
Glad to see you´re performing so good Harstem! I haven´t played Sc2 in a really long time but i still follow your channel as your commentary makes the game enjoyable to watch still
Grats Harstem! I was thinking, it really seems like the phoenix builds never work out against top terrans. I feel like it's just a bad match up for them at that skill level. Have you considered doing some of your immortal proxies against people like Clem to try and squeeze out a cheeky win? Lmk if I'm totally off the mark, I'm only a plat player to be fair 😂
It looks incredibly difficult to use disruptors against top level Terrans. Even watching the videos without the stress of playing I didn’t see a good opportunity for success. Is it possible to try using FF to funnel bio into your disruptor balls?
you played great dude. was exciting watching you. I think you're completely right about target selection versus Clem: he's great at identifying your instinctive target and picking it up. Playing the situation out in slow-motion like a chess game, you could probably learn to pick second-best targets or predict medivac movement so you always land hits AND the added benefit is that it breaks his rhythm. He'll pick up likely targets who don't get targeted, but then the picked up unit won't be shooting and then he'll quickly have too many realistic targets and start guessing wrong what to pick up. I think the strategy could snowball against him in skirmishes!
I love to see your games in tournaments, no matter of result, Captain. Your playstyle is very entertaining. With videos like this it's very interesting to get picture from the outside and from the inside of player's perspective. I hope you get key to PvT, and to Clem. You have so much videos with different strategies and different units, and Clem is abusing his micro agains projectile units. So maybe the tactic is the key to overtaking him, using other kind of units, finding out which strategies he is weak against on current meta... Hope you get him one day or the other. And you'll fill more comfortable in pvt
Harstem, could you please share your game graphics configuration from this session? It looks like it has good performance, but still clear when units die. In your previous videos I sometimes saw that units just disappear and I was very confused whether they died or I was unable to thack where it go (into the warp prism/burrowed/lagged or whatever)
Not sure what this means but when you're initially confident (not playing against clem lol) you bounce around your cam a ton. Wonder if thinking a bit less and sticking to your apm guns would help against that damn awesome clemboi
For fake Clem practice, could you do what Reynor does? Play against multiple opponents at once? One doing the macro, one just lifting marines to dodge shots?
Make a tournement platform that instead of having a fee fund a prize pool, it funds a player balance and each game is played for a % of it. so that someone who dominates all the way throught doesnt walk empty handed losing in semi finals or something like that.
Good job man. It's starting to feel like in PvT at the highest level you either have to be super aggressive and maybe cheese or go on a heavy macro track and sizably out eco them.
Crimson Court is high key a geat map for storm vs what clem had. Plenty of map features to storm from the other side of while he pushed the middle lane
when you lost those probes to that widow mine, it really made me glad how keenly widows are balanced. I mean, you made a bad move click, so naturally the early game unit should be able to punish an entire mineral line 100-0 instantaneously. just like how all races can do. I think widow mines should have as much hp as a worker.
In game 2 vs clem, why did you get +1 attack before shields? Is it because you wanted to go for a timing attack, or is this the new preferred upgrade order vs terran?
GG hamster, such a shame about the last series as i feel like if you played as well as you did in every other series you probably would have won that one too, just a few costly mistakes :(
EPM must get nerfed! Just remove the draining shields part of the ability and the game is balanced. I would bet Protoss players would play more aggressive and Terran players would still win in the earlier stages of the games with +1 Stimpack Combat Shields timing attacks of off two or three bases 😂
Aye.. Shoulda sold some shield-power or even a probe for some more time to make that immortal. You pointed it out yourself, shoulda just stepped back a bit, let him hit the buildings for 10secs until you had another unit
think relying more on shieldbat and photon early on. also bc t is so utter unreasonable op on every area now incl maps, the only chance for P is to bait T into overstimming and wasting time killing extra building stuff or pushing to hard to get something out off the stim. midgame disruptors firing and chasing and hitting while they flee back; thinking again off stim as dmg done, since medivac energy is so damn strong. also since there is no effective counter to T air before tempest; i think you just have to get some voidrays; yer they suck but nothing else early can dmg vikings at a cost-efficient-speed; meaning the vikings just function as wonderfull OP EHP tanks and when they die they are garanteed to always have dealt with the units they where there for.... fgs most terrans can lose a ground fight barely while having handfulls off vikings not landing, bc T players can't utilize their heads and no one with brain has moved T into a newer tactic and strategy... also why they continuesly are getting more and more OP but still get mediocra results compared to how absolutely insane T is if played on an equal skill lvl
I think humans made most fruit and vegetables big by planting the biggest ones for thousands of years. and, more recently, maybe splicing dna between plants. Congrats on getting 5th and being pretty close to getting further. It seems like you've joined the S-tier; now you just have to find the magic that gets you to that magic tier with Clem, Maxpax, and Serral
Harstem ... can you please try like 3 to 4 sentries with disruptors. Wanna see if that helps land those purification novas. Especially if you make 3 fields and they scoot to the sides ... the novas have a chance of landing if the balls preemptively go in that direction. Just a noob suggestion.
Casters aren't used vs mid-lategame terran is because ghosts outrange them. EMP Drains all energy. If he can land those type of walls he wouldn't need disruptors in the first place. It's not used vs protoss late because archons are massive units that destroy force fields.
C'mon man, 6'th is not bad, not bad at all. You got visibly tired in the last games, such is life, you're old. We can't stay up late like these young folks anymore. But good job overall, you're significantly better than last tournament. Only room for improvement from here on out.
The fact that emp affects the storm dynamic is super lame, that area of effect is pretty much just off the table. You'd think sniping Templar or having huge damage output when they're fragile would be enough deterrent. Really seems to reduce counterplay strategies.
Holy shit Clem is so insanely good. But on that note, even your losses were respectable, he definitely was going all out vs you, very impressed by your performance captain! 🫡
1 thing that bugs me for some reason is the way that everyone pronounces Alcyone (Ἀλκυόνη). she is the wife of the mythical Ceyx, and she and her husband turned into Kingfisher birds in the Ovidian myth. In greek it would be pronounced with a K sound instead of the C and a short E at the end, pronounced as the E in Echo
