HART Tools Angle Grinder BROKEN After ONE USE!? (Tested ON STEEL BEAM) In this video we put your comments too the test by testing HART tools new 4-1/2'' angle grinder on steel I-beam! You said in a previous video that the right way to cut through steel I-beam is not to use a reciprocating saw like we did, but to use an angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Today we find out what the HART tools angle grinder is really made of and if it breaks down after one use! Let us know your thoughts on HART tools down in the comments section below and all about how we did it wrong as well.

I mean I’m sure even Walmart would tell you no you can’t cut an I beam with a Hart grinder lol. This tool was made for home owners who might need to cut some ducting or tiles or something every once in a while, and I’m sure it’s perfectly viable for those purposes. I am actually going to disagree with you on this one Vince. A reciprocating saw is something I would expect to be used for a less constant workload, while an angle grinder should be a very constant duty, heavy load type of tool. That is why angle grinders tend to have such strong cooling solutions compared to many other tools. There is no reason you shouldn't use a recip saw to cut the beam if it is up to the task, but an angle grinder should really be ideal for that task in the hands of someone who actually knows how to use it. That's not to say that it should be faster, just that it should be better designed to handle the task and experience less wear and tear from it. Given that you didn't push it too hard any half decent grinder should have been able to do what that Hart failed to do without issue. Even for an occasional DIYer that Hart seems subpar for anything more than a very quick light task.

first of all...who ever says to use a grinder to cut an I-beam is dead wrong...reciprocating saw is the way to go....if you look at the package of the diablo thick metal or amped reciprocating blades or milwaukee & lenox it shows a picture of an I-BEAM !!! to represent what kind of metals it can cut !! reciprocating saw will give you a more accurate cut. second....why is TTi putting out a grinder in the hart brand ?? its a consumer/DIY brand of tool....what DIY'er is gonna use a grinder or knows how to use one ?? 🤔 throw that hart grinder in the trash where it belongs !! 😅

I just had to help with a huge demo job with an air handler on a hospital. All of the frame was insulated with foam around the I beams which kept the torches from working properly, no 220 so couldn't plasma cut the beams either. We tried grinders and the discs burned up very fast and there was many areas where a grinder would not clear the tight corners. The sawzalls were the quickest and most efficient way to demo the beams. It sucked but they most assuredly have their place.

I picked up the hart grinder on sale. Without 4 amp hour batteries it is pretty bad. The small batteries over heat after about 2 minutes of run time and you have to let them cool. However, for the price it is pretty good at cutting light metal with the 4 ah batteries. You still cant push it, nor expect it to be a corded grinder. It saves me a ton of time because I keep the grinding wheel on the corded angle grinder and the cut off wheels on the cordless so I am not changing them out every 5 minutes. They do sell a lot better charger now to, with the combo of 2 4ah batteries and a tool for 100 bucks. I picked up the hand vac to clean up mouse turds at camp :)

That's an apples to oranges comparison. Abrasive blades rely on speed to cut and at 6500 RPM, the hart doesn't have it. Me personally, I'd use my Metabo 6" grinder with a .045" slicer wheel spinning at 10k RPM because that's what I have. If I were doing it every day, the plasma cutter would be my go to and put everything else to shame. With all that being said, the sawzalls did an impressive job and if it gets the job done, that's what matters.

I do structural welding and cut ibeams. NO A GRINDER DOES NOT CUT THEM FASTER! but they come in handy depending if the I-beam is already installed.

If I didn't want to use a torch I'd probably cut the web and flanges with my good Ole fein then cut where the web and flanges meet with the Sawzall if my disc can't reach all the way through. Idk I've just always had better luck cutting with grinders than my Milwaukee Sawzall. Their metal cutting circular saw though... 🤤

Well for one it's a damn I beam and 2nd the blade it comes with sucks ass, if you had a different blade you would've at least cut into it some, not trying to say hart is even good, I use Craftsman, Dewalt, some Kobalt, and Ryobi and never had a single issue, love every single tool I own. Craftsmans new 20v system is the shit, an extremely good price to pay for how well they perform. It is extremely underrated.

It depends and what you need done the fastest would be an oxy set with an 6mm cutting head but you will have sparks A plasma cutter will do it as well but it'll be slower than the sawsall A grinder will do this cut but you'd want at least an 5" and up grinder, preferably power cord tool cordless is pretty useless at this cut. You'll want an 1mm cutting disc and that's for it's cutting speed and longer life, you are using an 2mm disc which is super slow and you'll go through it fast too fast. so a grinder that's 5" to 7" 1mm disc will fly through this as it's 3 cuts top bottom then through the center. An 9" will probably do this as 1 cut straight through but some people get scared with 9" grinders However the above will throw off a lot of sparks, which if you don't want or can't have sparks then you can't use the above methods. The other problem with grinders is space you need to have access to everything and a sawsall depending on blade length might cut through this I-Beam in 1 go. SPace is usually the bigger problem rather than sparks etc, if you can't get a grinder in anyway then you won't be using a grinder in the first place

Well I work shut down on power plants, and I use Milwaukee all day. And we do the exact same thing plus way more with ours. We rarely use grinders because you need a fire watch and what not.. We way rather use a sawzall especially cordless. Because believe it or not, the hardest thing to find in a power plant is power/ 110 plug. So that's a good trick for sure. But honestly a far comparison would be to use a 6 inch grinder, cordless. Not a 4 inch. Because a four inch grinder isn't really great for cutting its more for grinding or cutting small things. On top of that when you do cut a I-beam with a grinder its aggravating af to cut beams with. And if those spammers had actually cut one before they would know that.

We used Milwaukee sawzalls with Torch blades to cut through everything. Especially when we were D&R'n stuff. That's said, if I was gonna cut a beam like that at home, I would use my torch.

I see people use grinders in the wrong direction (IMO) all the time. I have the blade spinning so the tool will pull away from me. You are able to have much better control. Safety first is what most will say but I've cut a thousands cuts and never broke a blade. Have watched others using blade spinning sparks away from there body and broke many blades. I think it's a safer way

I've used a Dewalt grinder with a metal cut-off thin curf blade to do small jobs like rebar... but an I-beam? Maybe a gas cut-off tool with a 15"+ diamond blade, but not a grinder.

Ok so first things first, you mentioned that you put a cutoff wheel on there but you never stated a brand or quality of said wheel. Not all metal cutoff wheels are created equal a cheap wheel will just mar the surface as it deteriorates, where a good quality blade will cut through like butter and yes will outperform a reciprocating saw. The next problem is as you're trying to tell people that your way is better in a rigged and biased fashion as you're not even comparing apples to apples, you use a Milwaukee reciprocating saw, with high-end Diablo blade, and compare that to a hart grinder with a basic cutoff wheel? Of course that is not going to get the best results! Granted heart is made by TTI, however it is not the same as Milwaukee, because although the same company makes a good tool when you're building to a price point you scale a lot of things back and build a crappy tool in order to meet your price point. With a proper quality grinder and a cutoff wheel it would eat through that I-beam a lot quicker than your reciprocating saw blade! For for proper demonstration of that go get yourself a Milwaukee grinder and a Diablo cut-off blade then you will get a true apples to apples comparison! Or to prove it to yourself for cheaper go get a heart reciprocating saw and use the blade that comes in the box or any cheap blade to try to cut through that I beam, and see where that get to you!

A sawzall is the perfect tool for cutting such metal. I tore down a mobile home by hand and used a Walmart hyper tough sawzall. I would never use a grinder. The blade is too small and it's much more dangerous. A friend of mine tried it and the blade broke and went into his arm... A grinder is for small jobs

For demanding cutting job, no battery powered angle grinder will make the cut (pun intended). But with that said dewalt 60v max angle grinder will probably have the best chance.

I could use my 7 inch gigantic 20 year old Milwaukee 15 amp rear handle grinder with a slicing blade but those sawsall blades look much safer especially if you were making a cut midway on a long beam where the blade might try and get pinched. I hate exploding abrasive wheels.

18 years ago I cut an I beam twice like the 1 in this video with a an old bosch 9 inch corded grinder using 2x1.9 mm thick 230 mm (9 "inch) discs it took some doing to get it done cos that damn old grinder was a bit heavy. It's about time I got rid of that old grinder I had it for nearly 35 years when I see a reciprocating saw doing something like this I wish I had those back in the day

Carbide metal Blade in a sawzall, or maybe a large enough metal cutting cutting circular saw, will beat a hand grinder with an abrasive disc every time. I think the sawzall even has an edge over a band saw, since I have not seen carbide band saw blades... A cutting torch... Sure, but sometimes you don't have the right environment for that.

I doubt even Makita's XGT 9in grinder would beat a reciprocating saw cutting through an I-beam. Way to much friction from the wheel.

I cut beam all the time. Small and large. And i use all type of cordless power tool. Mostly Milwaukee and Dewalt. There 4-1/2 inch will but it will take for ever with a few batteries. But there not really deep enough to cut through the flange to the web . but a 6 inch Metabo will eat right through it with enough blade to flip that beam and go inside that 90 degree to the other side and finish the cut.
