Crawley survive and Hartlepool are relegated back to the National League after only 2 seasons in the EFL. Mathematically they could survive on goal difference but their chances are slim.
Really enjoyed that. Great video. Subscribed. Happy memories of going to Hartlepool watching my team Blyth Spartans cause an FA Cup upset and knocking them out a few years back. It was a baltic December night match. My mate was that convinced we would win he stashed a bottle of champagne in a bush outside the ground. We tried to open it after full time but it had frozen solid. Still wasn't wearing a coat like.
Thanks KW, I love hearing these stories! There are not many clubs that would travel south to play away at Hartlepool 👍🏻, you wouldn’t catch us southern softies with no coat on in the winter 🥶 ❄️👍🏻
Came over to your channel from your comment on my video!! Love the content and have subscribed! A football coke and mars bar table is something I never knew I needed in my life 😍! Keep smashing it mate!! ❤
Thanks Sam, the birth of the coke and mars was from my visit to West Ham and being utterly appalled by their prices, hence the comparison league table, I have subscribed to your channel too 👍🏻
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 genuinely love the concept!! It’s really unique and fun!! I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for you when we get round to going to Gillingham!
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 I meant to say it's great to see videos like this showing the changes not the changes themselves. Like you I preferred the character of the older grounds in the eighties. I enjoyed it more standing ion the terraces before most teams went all seater too..😊
It was a great atmosphere all afternoon, what a credit to the lower end of league 2! There was almost a party atmosphere at the beginning with the pools fans waving the blue and white flags, good luck for next season 👍🏻
Crawley supporter here: I feel for you, I really do. It could just as easily been us. A couple of weeks ago I thought we were certs to go down once you overhauled those 5 points. Not quite over yet though, but should be.
I never expected to make an appearance on youtube :) . I made it into some of that but was too absorbed with the game to notice you. I only got back Monday evening as I visited some relatives in another part of Co Durham. Great atmosphere.
Thought at first you were taking a weekend off Matt. Then i see you arriving at Hartlepool, for that short trip. Yet another ground marked off of your list. Must have been deafening with those Crawley fans. More were there than for their home games lol. Shame Hartlepool are down, but at least the Gills have a short trip to Crawley next season. All 4 sides of the ground looked full too. Hopefully our team will improve on that next season. Not nice kicking towards an end with no fans. Am still guessing where you travel from each game, but you havent even given me a tip, so no chance other than to say Barming, where i lived as a kid. Good stuff your putting out on the channel mate. Thanks from Berlin Dave the Gill
Berlin Dave, good to hear from you as always, you are getting closer with the location, I’m not in Barming but I am located in the Weald, there is your clue 👍🏻 The Crawley away fans are a lot noisier then the home fans. In fairness to the Hartlepool fans they kept going to the end. The home end was completely full, I think it was their highest attendance this season ⬆️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 ok i have you Matt the Groundhopper. Either your in Sevenoaks or in Headcorn near Maidstone. Knew both places well back in my youth, although we used to drink and dance more in Tonbridge or in Tunbridge Wells. One drove, the other 3 got pis...d
I did wonder why as a groundhopper, you were cheering in the away end during your Swindon vs Gillingham video? Now I know. That was still the most entertaining game I've seen all season at the County Ground.
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 it sure is tough believe this or not I'm a walsall fan and I live in the North East part reason I'm gutted hartlepool look like being relegated it's one game I can get to easily
It's crazy really but I was involved with the coaching staff at Barrow AFC ... for 8 yrs. The away games were always the ones where our fans made the most noise. Home games were much quieter. Bigger crowds now the club are back in the league after 50 yrs out...
As an American casual fan of Everton I stumbled across your channel. Really good stuff, enjoying learning of these clubs outside the premier league that have virtual no coverage here. But what is a Mars? Hope you keep these up and your channel grows, wishing you all the best. Subscribed
Thanks JG, great to have Americans on board 👍🏻 a mars bar in the USA is called a Milky Way. Spread the word to your friends because there is a lot of great football outside of the Premier League. My team Gillingham has just been bought by an American businessman, thanks for subscribing 👍🏻
No, I nearly went there a few weeks ago Jimmy, it is actually a very easy train journey as the station is almost opposite the ground, it will be ticked off next season ✅👍🏻
Sad to see this. hartlepools was Cloughie's first venture into football management and got them promoted if my memory serves me well. Let's hope the same happens again very soon. Best wishes from a Rotherham fan......
I've been down to Crawley and they didn't chant once, fair play though that's one hell of a journey and they never shut up, disappointed with pools fans they just seemed to give up as soon as they went behind.
Hartlepool's problems started directly after the Papa Johns semi-final defeat against Rotherham last season. After that the club went into freefall and finished not far off the relegation places. Graham Lee was sacked. Paul Hartley was then made manager at the start of this season and the results were diabolical. I think Hartley thought the standard of football would have been the same as his tenure with Scottish lower league however he got a big shock. Did not win the first 11 matches beginning with a 0-4 hammering at Walsall and reached a peak with a 0-6 drubbing against Everton kids! in the Papa Johns. I think there were a lot of issues behind the scenes. So in essence we were relegated due to those first few months. I believe if John Askey was appointed earlier maybe we could have survived.
Thanks George, was you standing to the left of me on the back row, I remember you. You are not the first person to think I am mad talking into my phone 👍🏻
Loved the drama in football that you show and will watch more EXCEPT do you have to put your noggin on film all the time? Voice over & keep the action on the events at the ground.
Thanks Dave, unfortunately the noise is so loud at the ground you wouldn’t clearly hear my voice and it sounds muffled. So you need to almost lip read in these environments so unfortunately you are stuck with my noggin for now 👦👍🏻
Thanks for your comments, I probably won’t be able to make that but I have promised other Boro fans that I will experience an away game with you guys next season 👍🏻👍🏻
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Feyenoord Rotterdam ofcourse. My local team 🙂👍🏻. NAC Breda, Fc Twente and Cambuur Leeuwarden are also a great experience. But i woud advise you to visit German games. No mather What game at what level. always good !!
Thanks David, it’s a tough gig dropping into non league. However there are discussions about increasing it to 3 up and 3 down which I think would be good for the game 👍🏻
Thanks Jack, I have been to Chesterfield once before pre-the channel when they was in league one! Yes, they are on my list and you never know you might be an EFL club next season 👍🏻
Hey groundhopper good vid wouldnt mind doing it neither i watched the scunthorpe video as im a fan. Bet you wont be going there for a while. Well done rob
Thanks Rob, I feel sad for Scunthorpe dropping down again. I really enjoyed my day there. Hopefully you will have a happier season and I will be looking out for your results 👍🏻
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 cheers mate we beat palace newcastle brighton sheff u sheff wed 13 yrs ago its so sad to see the club sent to the wolves...... We cant believe it
Thanks Mountain Goat, yes you are correct as they could still stay up which I mention in the video. However the odds are stacked against them, if they do survive I will have to change my thumbnail 👍🏻
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Victoria Park will more than likely have to go into your non-league pile. I've seen a number of 92 clubs drop into the National League and never return. I know they are not wasted trips as I saw a game and been to a new ground, but they don't count anymore so seem a waste.
I've always wanted to go to Edgeley Park as it is a good old traditional ground and what a great story it has been for Stockport County in the last couple of years, it is on my list.
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Indeed, selling them to a club that was a relegation rival for much of the season was a monumental blunder made by half-brained f*wits.
I get sick of hearing "fans" from the top clubs moaning when their team lose and the awful feeling and anger they feel....even though they never go. They will never know what real fans feel, the Hartlepool's and Rochdale's whose fans must be heartbroken to lose league status. We are about to suffer a rare relegation and I feel terrible...I can't even begin to know what it feels like to lose league status.
Thanks Clem, I am a Gills fan and we got relegated last year, we all suffer in some way. But you are right, a club who finish out the top 4 in the Premier League it is a massive disaster for the club and fans, I find the Premier League a bit boring if I’m being honest
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 You guys have been through a lot in the past. I agree, the PL is boring generally. I love the Championship, though that's being ruined by parachute payments.
Thanks Martin, that was the original intention but clubs in Scotland don’t serve alcohol and not every ground sells pies. However they all sell fizzy drinks and chocolate, hence the comparison 👍🏻
Sorry but Hartlepool are not relegated yet based on the updated table. Crawley P44 Pts 45 GD -22 Hartlepool P44 Pts 39 GD -28 Until it is mathematically impossible to stay up, keep believing!!!
I'm a Crawley supporter and totally agree with you. If we lose next game and Pool win theirs, last-day nerves can do all kinds of weird stuff. 6 goals sounds a lot for the gap in goal difference, but it only needs a 1-0 and 2-0 defeat for Crawley and similar wins for Pool. That would save Pool on goals scored.
I nearly went to see Bradford v Gills but this game had a lot more riding on it. I will be resuming my Gills roadshow next season when the Gills are going for promotion 👍🏻
