As a former recruiter and Director of Admissions at an HBCU, our schools do not have the bandwidth to move money around that way. The Athletics budget is set and coaches offer what they can to maximize their options. I would encourage those to apply for academic scholarships during their tenure as high school students and continue the process as active students. I would have encouraged him to walk-on but I believe there is something not being shared here. Did he ask for more scholarship money and it was not stackable at the institutions he wanted to attend? Was he the caliber player that would have garnered a full athletic scholarship? What was the role of the parents as in my experience, helicopter parents make it hard to resolve things. I hope things work out for him.

He garnered bigger offers than the HBCU he asked. If they “wanted” him then they could have explained hey we only have this much athletic money to give with all the ivy’s he had on the list I’m sure he had some academic money. But why walk-on when it’s a athletic scholarship waiting somewhere else? Morehouse is a D2 so athletic budget is different but that’s communication if they wanted him.

This is a kid who attended a Academic HS in DC that didn’t have sports so he had to play for a different school. So I’m guessing he was aware of academic money throughout the school year

@@StanBuck12 if he wanted to play for them and there was no money at the time, then yes I’d tell him to walk on. There are students that do that and secure scholarships. At the end of the day, it’s his decision.

Similar story for my 2 son's. Both are scholar athletes, started businesses, volunteer etc. They developed and analytical model to select and rank their top 10 HBCU's (JSU included) made the list. We then visited all 10 HBCU to test theory vs reality. It made a big difference in the final selection. During the visits we also recruited the schools because we understood the budget constraints and that you have to actually recruit the HBCU's vs being recruited. They ultimately chose PVAMU and now both are 4.0 and 3.5 students in their first semester, on the team and expected to play. We need to get this out to all prospective students wanting to attend. You will have to recruit the school and visit to see if it fits. Both are having the best times of their lives and wouldn't trade it for anywhere else.

Undoubtedly, HBCUs have to be more aggressive about recruiting top talent that they consider impossible. I am an HBCU graduate, but they did not recruit my son. He's at Penn State for engineering and track.
@aishefasani5635
@aishefasani5635 Год назад
Stop the madness lol. Tthat they operate within their budget and resources(as with any university). I would say you all should write and attend HBCUs rather than them having to stretch their tiny wallets only for you to turn them down for Penn State lol. 75% of athletes at HBCUS are Power 5 rejects. And if given the chance, they'd bolt to any Power 5 at the drop of a hat. You try recruiting kids with less than $250k. While D1 school operate on $40 million plus every year for just football alone. Big difference there.

Those 20 offers come from schools with higher recruiting budget. Some HBCU only have $15,000 dollars for recruiting. Now Morehouse has the money. The only reason they did not recruit him is schools with small budgets look for Linemen and Quaterbacks. There are plenty skill players and DBs to recruit.

Football teams offer scholarships for positions based on the team's needs. Maybe Morehouse didn't see a need at his position(s) or his skill set. Since he played almost everything, that seems unusual but hey, maybe they were looking for some guys with more size that season. That said, he's at Harvard. The school that he chose gave him an academic scholarship but he had football offers from mainly D1-AA schools and a couple of DII's but none that offered his major were HBCUs. It wasn't a big deal in our house but we noticed that none of his peer athletes from other private schools in the area didn't get offers as well. They all went to non HBCU's because that is who they were recruited by. Oh well.

I told them I would walk on and earn my scholarship and they came up with every reason why they couldn't work with me. HBCU are not in the financial position to spend as much money on recruitment and advertisement as PWI, therefore HBCU miss out. Since there are more student athletes than HBCU, why not "force" exceptional student athletes upon HBCU that want to attend HBCU, even if they are not recruited by HBCU? Now for those that like to play with numbers: annually more than 310,000 high school football players graduate, there are over 70,000 college players, and there are more than 20,000 freshman positions. Now to be honest, is there a single college/university that does not miss out on a player they wish they had recruited?

Lol dude, come on man did he ever think that maybe they didn't have a need for his position? Say he's a RB and they already have 4, 2 red shirts and 1 more already committed? But here's the thing; Morehouse turns downs MANY kids. And Morehouse is a liberal arts school and NOT A FOOTBALL SCHOOL. Maybe had he researched and read the mission, he would've chosen another school. My neighbor's son didn't get in and he had 4.2 GPA and an offer from USC. Also, Morehouse is a private university and they select you based on more factors/criteria. Also, the Covid class got quite a bit of scrutiny based off the fact that many of them were just "given diplomas" despite scores due to the emergency. But honestly, I believe there's more to this story than he's telling. He also seems a bit on the entitled/condescending type. As he went live right there on campus to show his disgust rather than scheduling a second meeting with admissions staff to find the core reason of his alleged rejection. But whats sad is how far blacks will go to shame other blacks. Now they're shaming colleges lol.

Even if they did I believe most of them feel like they'll lose out on them anyway to these top schools like Penn Ohio Alabama etc so they don't bother going after them. I would love to see more top tier players on an HBCU team. On another note maybe those HBCUs know that those students have a better shot in the big leagues in those top schools and don't want to get in the way. We all know HBCUs rarely have players drafted even though over half of the athletes drafted are bust including top picks. There are a lot of HBCU athletes looked over for players from big time schools.
