Harvard Med Grads Share Their Top Med School Application Tips 

From my experience, the 'top' undergrad schools tend to produce a higher proportion of 'top' applicants, those who are academically accomplished and passionate leaders, so naturally Harvard Med and other 'top' med schools will have a high proportion of students who went to highly ranked undergraduate universities. That said, the undergrad you attended in itself isn't the most important factor. Ever year Harvard Med accepts students from small and not widely known or highly ranked schools - they're looking for talent no matter where it comes from! -Dylan

We can definitely create a video around this topic in the near future, but the short answer is it's hardly ever too early to start working on your personal statement, and generally we recommend applying as early as possible. In the months leading up to the application, you can at least begin compiling ideas on what you want to include in your personal statement and activities essays to make the writing easier down the line. In 2024, the application opens to input information in May and you can submit it earliest at the end of May for 'verification' but you don't need to wait until the month of May to begin writing your primary application essays and pulling transcript information, etc. If you're super prepared, you can apply on the first day the application opens. However this should not come at the cost of quality of your application. Also sometimes there are reasons to wait a few weeks, such if final semester grades are coming in and your updated transcript will feature a higher GPA, though oftentimes it's still best to get your application in early and send any updates to your schools later on. The main disadvantage of applying late is that many schools offer rolling admissions and every school has a finite number of interviews to give out, so applying early gives you the best chances. Glad you found that helpful! Another tip for interviews, especially when you have multiple interviews in one day, is to take a quick inventory of what was discussed after each interview. If you notice a key topic wasn't covered (like your experience as president of the premed society with lots of stories to share, for example), you can be even more mindful to bring it up in subsequent interviews that day. This way, you can ensure you highlight all your key experiences and achievements on your one interview day. Best of luck!
