I worked in a pecan orchards running the harvester machine. We also had a shaker to get the pecans down. We had trailer loads 15ft high with dryers. Love working the job I was only 14 teen. Thanks for sharing your video brings back memory’s 👍😎✌️
I helped out a custom pecan harvester once and it was a pretty slick operation from the tree shaking to the final step of putting the loaded burlap 50 lbs sacks of nuts on the trailer.I have been around them all my life but this big-sized operation was in impressive.Mississippi grower.
My squirrels keep knocking mine off the tree. It's end of July. By the time it's sep I'll have none left. If they fall on the ground can I let them dry at home?
I got a bucket of pecans given to me that were picked last fall. I'm shelling them and they look pretty good. But she said they're rancid. Is there something to look for that shows they're no good?
Would you know how to treat a pecan tree? My pecans never turn out fully formed they are either always green and never fully mature. The tree is very old and tall as well, if that helps with a diagnosis
According to U.S. Pecans,"Proper storage preserves nut quality. Poor storage often leads to darkening of kernels and rancidity of the oils, destroying the natural flavor and aroma of the nuts. Store pecans under refrigeration. Freezing is best. Lowering the temperature extends storage life. Nuts can be thawed and refrozen without loss of quality. Refrigerated or frozen pecans should be placed in airtight containers. Pecan kernels readily absorb odors from other foods, resulting in off flavors. Sealed plastic bags are best for storing pecans in the freezer. Pecans are usually stored shelled since they take up less space and can be conveniently used straight from the freezer. Unshelled pecans can be stored for a longer period than shelled nuts. Storing pecans at room temperature is not recommended." www.uspecans.org/consumers.php
Huh. I’m in NC, It’s September, and my pecan tree is raining pecans. Some green, some brown, all are in the husks. I’ve been picking them up. Not sure what I’m doing. But I figured I’d try.

Eat right off the tree. No processing required. Watch out for aggressive male squirrel's. Wear safety glasses to avoid wind born debris. Bring the kids.
@@gel990 freeze them and eat them with frozen chocolate chips. Dark chocolate is one of the highest antioxidant foods and pecans are the highest antioxidant nut in the world. Antioxidant overload.
@@co59720 oh! LOL. i didn't see the period separating your sentences. I thought you said "Watch out for aggressive male squirrels, wear safety glasses." LOL
What a brilliant documentary, this is why i like farmers/Trump over scientists/Obama, because they bring food to our table. And more importantly, they just look more American to me.
Syed Alam this is a joke right? Scientists are just as responsible for the food in grocery stores as the farmers who do all the physical labor to harvest the actual crops.
Just can’t help yourself - you have to turn a non-political video about pecans into something it isn’t. It is comments like yours that help divide this country.
