Beginning in July, you can buy some of my I'itoi onion harvest at Arizona Worm Farm. All proceeds will benefit St. Vincent de Paul and Project Roots.

That's great, Angela. Thank you! Do you also have other produce to sell? I want to plant these onions, too. Or do you also sell or share flower seeds from your garden?

I bought 10 I'itoi bulbs from Etsy 2 years ago after watching you talk about it. Today (2 years later) I think I harvested over 200 onions (maybe more!) with just those 10 bulbs. It's really amazing and thank you for your videos! Also I would like to add that I've completely stopped buying scallions and shallots because of these onions :)

Thank you for this video, I am harvesting I'itoi onions for the first time this year. I also will be harvesting garlic here soon, I'm growing in Tucson. I'd love to see a video on growing garlic. I have religiously watched your monthly videos in order to learn what does well here in the low desert. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us ❤

I had an amazing harvest this year I bought mine from Dixon Dale and out of the 75 plants I only had four that had bolted, my onions are very big this year, very pleased with how they have done. I was wondering how do you fertilize your onions you don't address that.

Always love watching your videos. I learn so much. I live near Patagonia Lake State Park in Arizona and I also had most of my onions bolt this year. Like you, I freeze dried them. Got 1 1/2 gallons. I think I am going to start doing that every year and only store a few whole onions. I left a few out in the garden, but guess I better get them harvested and cured!

I have had fantastic luck with Davidor shallots from seed. A package of seeds is less than $7. I start several seeds in a pot and separate and up pot when they have at least 2 stems. I’m in zone 10 and a single package of seeds have given me several dozen shallots. I plant shallots in either spring or fall. I have even left some in the ground and they multiply like your Itoi onions. Great video, thanks.

Super good video. I needed those details. My onions usually don’t fall over, I have to push them. And then they begin to rot sometimes during curing.

Your timing is perfect - I was just wondering about this! Several of mine have flopped over. One did bolt and I used it for dinner that night. What do we do if it's raining every few days? Can't turn off the sky.

@jlofgreen
@jlofgreen 2 месяца назад
If your onions are flowering, they have "bolted" or gone to seed. You can leave them to fully flower and then collect the seeds to plant near year or havest and use the bilbs right away!

I'm in Zone 9b in So Cal and I have great success growing shallots from seed each year. You might want to give that a try instead of planting bulbs. My favorite varieties are Zebrune & Creme Brule. Thanks for the informative video!

If I grow itoi onions, will I be able to harvest the green tops throughout the season and still get a good bulb and multiplication? I grow onions mostly for the tops so I wouldn't want to pick the wrong variety!

Question; My onions are in a self wicking bed . So should I pull them and put them in dry dirt instead? Also, with green onions, will they still grow under 50% uv shade area,?
@GrowingInTheGarden

I would pull them yes. Green onions should grow fine with some shade.

I'm sorry about your shallots. I literally buy mine at the Lidl or any farmer here near Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and bam. Shallots. They work like a tulip. Have you tried first putting them in the fridge, and then planting?
