Amazing harvest! It is so inspiring! I have a small garden, so every harvest is exciting. I just harvested my first potatoes ever. I planted two and a half pounds of Purple Viking seed potatoes--I put them in the top tier of one of my greenstalks and the rest in a raised bed. The greenstalk potatoes died back first and I harvested a few days ago. I got almost my two and a half pounds back. The raised bed plants haven't died back enough yet to harvest. It is funny that my first year to garden I only had two round four foot raised beds. The first time we got to pick anything, my husband and I had a discussion about whether my tiny handfull of veggies was enough to qualify as a harvest. I decided to call every little bit I got out of my garden a harvest! I am about ready to evict the potatoe in the raised bed because they are hogging so much space! Keep up the good work inspiring us!

I love a good potato harvest. Thank you for sharing. I was reading up on German butterball. They like a slightly acidic soil. I would say maybe try adjusting the PH and see if they grow bigger. Before you kick them to the curb. lol Metal raised beds get hot on the outside and will dry out while the middle is holding moisture. I learned that this year so it does take some adjusting to get watering right.

Loved your potato harvest. What’s a good potato to grow for beginners? Potatoes that I can grow in containers. I like big potatoes for baked potatoes and small potatoes for seafood/stews.
@HangingwithKim

I'm not great with russet potatoes, which is the best type of potatoes for baking the best potatoes for beginners, I believe, would be Yukon Gold or Kennebec potatoes. They are some of the best for all-around eating

Id try the German butterball in the vego bed and see if that gives more small ones per plant or bigger ones. But o dont grow for justbog ones. The pounds per plant seems average the same but if goal is larger size than your variety had alot to do with that. Can only compare same variety.

I love the wire mesh that you put to the top. Did you have to feed the plants through or did they just kind of figured it out? What was the purpose of the mesh other than to keep the plants upright? Great harvest!
