I remember the Doug and Julie love story and all the beautiful stories that have been told over the last 50 years. Harvey you were so kind and thoughtful in your interview style.
This interview with Susan Seaforth Hayes was emotional and beautiful. My Grandmother, Mother watched Days from the beginning. I was born around 5 months before Days premiered. The show has been running in my homes for all the days of my own life. So happy to have met Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes twice in person. They are authentic and gracious in every way. 🎉 gracious

Harvey, you did a great job with this interview. Susan keeps it real. What a treasure she is. I had the good fortune of meeting the Hayes at Dutton's bookstore in 2005. I was dropping off a chikdren’s book I wrote and they were doing a reading of their autobiography. When I told Susan that Julie getting burned was the story that got me hooked, she told me all about the year her mother was head writer. She did not hold back, and they were both so gracious, kind, and funny. I wonder if they still have the book I gave them. I cherish Bill’s inscription on my copy of theirs. Great memories. This was a wonderful interview with a fascinating and beautiful lady. I have loved her for many years. I am heartbroken over the loss of her husband Bill Hays. I lost my husband 12 years ago he was 64 and a wonderful husband and father ,so I know the pain of grief. You are handling it with grace and you are absolutely gorgeous. What a career you and Bill have had. I loved the 80’s and 90’s on Days I miss some of the super couples back then thank goodness we stlll have Deidre and Drake. I adore Deidre I will be heartbroken if she is no longer on DOOL also what a lovely person she is , classy and Gorgeous! Back in the "day" when there were only three networks and many if not most women were home raising children, when they watched "soap operas" they tended to stick to one of the three channels. My mother was an NBC gal so of course, she watched Days of Our Lives (along with The Doctors and Another World). I fell in love, of course, as a small boy, with Susan Seaforth Hayes. I've never forgotten her and have always enjoyed the opportunities to watch her in whatever she was appearing when schedules allowed. She's one of those rare women who are not only physically beautiful but beautiful from within. Her late husband, Bill Hayes was obviously a wonderful and nice man. I want to remind Ms. Hayes that Mr. Hayes would not have married her if he didn't see the inner beauty in her as well. He was a too perceptive and sensitive man to have been merely bowled over by her outward appearance. He saw the lovely woman within. I watched the funeral service for Mr. Hayes and recall Ms. Hayes speaking. One of the most well spoken eulogies I suppose I've ever heard. So thrilled to watch this interview and see that Ms. Hayes, while obviously still grieving, is in command of her life and is fully engaged in it. That is the best way she could honor the memory of her late husband because that is exactly what he would want for her. Once again, Mr. Brownstone a touching and most welcome interview.
Mrs. Hayes I was one of those who played hooky from school when I knew that a Doug and Julie storyline was imminent back in the 30 min format. Every moment that the two of you were on screen was precious. I was drawn into DOOL on the day of your first kiss on screen. I remember the day so clearly flipping through the channels at my grandmother's house and there you were and I was hooked. The Look of Love is still my favorite song. I was a big Burt Bacharach fan growing up and everytime I hear it it takes me back to that day. I also adored Mr. Hayes' voice. I can't imagine your loss but I just lost my mom and we always watched together. I know that God will continue to bless you and Billy's watching over you and waiting to kiss you again
Love them both and so sad Bill is gone. Susan I still love you on days of our lives i have been watching since 1979. So sad about Bill he was a true legend
How wonderful to see Mrs. Hayes on your show, Harvey! My favorite person in my life was and always will be my Grandma. My Grandma loved and a very faithful fan of Days of our Lives. When I was 12 ('75) I was able to spend the whole summer with my Grandparents in Boston. I spent every weekday watch Days of our Lives with them. I started watching Days at age 14 when it was in black & white. Throughout life I've missed some years & months of it but I adore Susan and loved Bill Hayes as well. I'm very sorry she and we have lost Bill. I'll keep watching Days for the rest of my life. YSM for this.

I have never watched ‘Days of Our Lives,’ but I did catch some of her appearances as “Joanna Manning” on ‘Y&R’ so in many ways, I went into this interview blind. But when she talked about going out every morning and picking flowers for her late husband, I damned near lost it. The second time was when she talked about her grandson buying a property on Lake Michigan. I feel for this dear woman and felt guilty that I’ve never really watched the bulk of her work. This interview has made me a fan! Thank you again , Harvey, for another amazing interview!

They were the first soap operas super couple! I started watching days of our lives while they were on again off again and she was dating two men. Our local NBC I believe it was had run an afternoon movie instead of two hours of soaps, so it wasn’t until my early teenage years before we were even offered days of our lives. My father was disabled and he got into soap operas the doctors, another world, Somerset and who could forget dark shadows. I loved days of our lives. I am now 67 years old and I remember those early days of watching it in the 1970s so vividly, I remember the actors and I know where they’ve gone in their careers.
Always loved them you could really feel their love toward each other it was so real you could just feel the true love so sorry for your loss it must be very hard
This was a great interview, it’s nice to here that she became an actress because she loved acting, the younger women became actresses to meet men to take care of them.

12:19 days of our lives was one of the first soap operas to employ comedy. Even McDonald Carey did comedy towards the end with his little excursions with Calliope. And the back-and-forth between Doug and the other guy I can’t remember his name who went onto the soap Santa Barbara, was riveting and then you had the story with hope and bow come right after that.
My grandmother was a huge fan of Doug and Julie and was majorly annoyed by Bo and Hope pushing them aside. Wonderful interview with Ms. Hayes! Mr. Brownstone, I love your work, but Stefano has a short -e sound.
29:28 I remember Brenda. I had to look her up to see if I remembered her. She was married to Paul Peterson from the Donna Reed show and then she was married to Bill Bixby. Her son that died was with Bill Bixby. And it was a tragic skiing accident where the boy suffered cardiac arrest and had some sort of esophageal episode. How tragic.
