As a fellow dealership technician I applaud your efforts in making this video available. Together we own tens of thousands of dollars each of tools and storage boxes. We certainly have developed a feel for how a tool should look, feel and perform. It’s both fun and a mental challenge designing, crafting and finishing your own project versus tearing down and rebuilding somebody else’s. My 3 car garage is set up for woodworking. I rarely ever work on a car in this garage. This is such a wonderful hobby and it’s great for me to see another tech with the same passion. 😎

I got the same saw about a year ago - came with instruction & assembly manuals, as an FYI. I think likely a fluke, as you said. Great saw. Thoroughly enjoyed mine (had to sell when moving, likely to get the exact same one again soon, if I can). Hope you get lots of years of great use out of 'er. Nice review, and great channel. Keep it coming.

Great video. Your table saw cabinet and the dado stack box are awesome. Assuming similar construction between your miter saw cabinet, router table, and under table saw cabinet.

Thanks for your review. I just ordered and should receive my saw (3 HP-36" version) next week. Cast iron extensions, good fence, top blade dust collection and miter gauge were on my list of must haves. The unit appears to be a quality built unit so I took a chance. Excited to receive and set it up. Plus Harvey was running a flash sale and I was able to get the saw for just under $2100 without tax or freight.

I had the same issue with locking the height adjustment on my secondhand Delta. and put a washer between the locking knob and shaft of the wheel and solved the problem. it seemed like the knob and wheel were coming into contact and that created the problem. good luck!

Great review. I have the 4 Horse 36" Harvey, in operation since in operation since February 2022. I had some initial issues with my saw which have all been overcome and I'm very pleased with my purchase. Overhead dust collection: I too removed the overhead dust collecting pipe and guard, but for different reasons. I used the blade guard on my old table saw for years, as it would hinge up our of the way, which I very much liked. I still use a steel rule or a tape measure to adjust my fence to the blade as view finders are just not accurate enough for my liking and as I often bumped the view finders out of alignment, as I take the fence off my saw frequently. If the Harvey blade guard hinged up out of the way as some saw do (SawStop, for example) I believe I would use the overhead dust collection, especially with the fence in the low orientation, for clearance. I have two riving knives for different thickness saw blades and they work well. Lock knob: I know Harvey makes incrimental changes to their tools... the miter gauge as you pointed out for one. My locking knob for the height and tilt adjustments are different from your saw. The knobs on my saw are knurled steel and work very well. You don't even need to crank down on them to hold the adjustment wheels snug. I don't know if that's the new design for all Harvey table saws, but by the looks of it, I very much prefer the steel knobs. Manual: I had recieved a manual. Probably an oversight. Support Legs: I agree about the support legs. I had the same issue with a mobile base. I have since added the router table extension wing which came with improved legs. They included leg extensions to compensate for mobile bases with the added weight of the cast iron router table the legs are stable. Have a good one.

I have the Harvey ALPHA HW110LC-36P 10" 2HP Cabinet Table Saw. I got it on a Black Friday sale the last time it was ever offered for $1799. I wired mine to run on 240v, the saw came with that feature, and they even sent the 240v switch to replace the 120v one that comes installed on the saw. I also like the pullback feature of the fence and have used that often when cutting segments for wood turning. Harvey has just come out with a new rip fence that I wish my saw had. They addressed the issues I have found with mine. However, at a price of $1200 for this new fence system, I will keep my old fence. As for the blade adjustment wheels, I have found I do not have to tighten them all that tight to hold the adjustment. However, I did find that, if I don't tighten it at all, that small knob will eventually unscrew and fall off. Thanks for your review. BTW - I did not see the link to those caps for the overhead dust pipe.

Nice review. I have had the 2Hp 36" for almost 3 years and couldn't be happier. My one 'peeve' with the fence is that both the tightener knobs for the fence are on one end of the fence. The far end of the aluminum extrusion always sags and scrapes on the table. THAT DRIVES ME NUTS! I love the silent swoosh of swinging the fence from 36 down to 1/4" without the sound of metal to metal. ALSO! I did the 'Carbon Method" ceramic coating on the table about 6 months ago - the table top is still flawless and slick I recommend using it. Not cheap, and I am not affiliated but it works.
@squareandlevel
@squareandlevel 11 месяцев назад
Awesome. I hear you about the fence. I found a single layer of shop towel under the far end before tightening the knobs keeps it from hanging up. Lame but works. I also used carbon method on the top before I even used the saw and I agree it’s pretty slick stuff. I didn’t mention it in the video because I didn’t want to come off a product pusher. Plus I want to see how it holds up before I recommend it to anyone. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!

@@squareandlevel I use two empty Rockler gift certificate cards (credit cards) under each end of the fence to tighten but then, when I come back, the fence has drooped and scrapes on the table. It is just a bit frustrating that this precision piece of equipment has such a basic flaw. And awesome on the carbon method.

@@squareandlevel biggest issue it that the miter slots are not actually flat from front to back. They actually hump up in the middle. Makes using a sled a bit tricky if you don’t run thinner miter bars on the bottom. The other big issue is it’s hard to get square cuts because there is a dip between the miter slots where the blade is.

For the last 30 years I just knew I was going to purchase a Grizzly tablesaw when I retired, but after learning about Harvey tools recently (and reading a lot of reviews) I think things may have changed. I feel the same as you about the blade guard. I would like the dust collection part, but I also like to be able to see the blade when I'm cutting. Again, thank you for the video. I'm feeling better about this saw all the time. Just wish we could get American made products for reasonable prices.

mine is 3 years old and have had the same problem with tightening the knobs on depth and angle. i have always had an issue with constantly having to square the blade to the top and also constantly adjusting the fence. so much so that i just stopped using it for a while. it was frustrating. this past week i worked on getting it square again. i was hopeful this would be the time that it stayed square. squared the table to .001 of the blade and the fence to .001 to the blade. made my first cut "practice" cut with a very straight edge piece of plywood and it was close to a 1/4" off from top to bottom. being frustrated is an understatement.
@squareandlevel
@squareandlevel 3 месяца назад
Darren, I’m sorry to hear that. Sounds incredibly frustrating. I have not had any issues with staying square. Only thing I can come up with is to check and make sure the main beam where the fence rail bolts to front on saw is secure. I can’t see how it could be that far off if the table to blade and blade to fence are adjusted properly. Hope you get it figured out. Thanks for watching and have a good weekend! Scott

I am a professional woodworker looking to replace my older Delta cabinet saw. Thank you for your opinions and info. I would have liked to learn about the cabinet dust collection ability. Table saws are known to kick out fine shavings and an enormous amount of dust. SawStop has a directional port under the blade which minimizes space, thereby increasing its ability to capture dust, especially if fitted with a zero clearance throat plate insert. Harvey's hi-low fence is basically the same as the Delta's, and I absolutely love it. It's one of the reasons I'm still intrigued with the Harvey saw and not SawStop, Powermatic, Jet, etc. Unlike you and probably others, I feel strongly about using a blade guard. I use mine all the time, like a seat belt in a car. There are over 30,000 table saw injuries per year, most result in amputations, kick backs and even death. With the blade guard about 1/8" or less above you wood material, it helps reduce those injuries plus, if attached to suction, it sucks up much of the dust from the saw blade, that the cabinet port can't. There are a couple companies, including Harvey, that sell a 3-4 inch port overhead dust collection on a sturdy swing arm, anything smaller than 3" is useless. Harvey actually manufactures a very unique 'fish bowl' design guard, enabling it to also collect dust from edge and angle cuts, (Model S-12S 'Shark' Universal Overhead Guard). I think Harvey makes quality/precision tools overall and I enjoyed your input and review, however; I am concerned about not having a dealership network and furthermore, its resale value.

Great overview and wow, maybe an AH HA moment. The table top, extension wings, cabinet, side access doors, riving knife, extra dado insert, main rail seem to be designed and look exactly like a Grizzley 899, though a different color you have a bigger motor. Wonder if one manufacturer makes saws like this for other resellers like Grizzly and Harvey to market under their own brand names. I found that to be true for tools like spindle sanders and scroll saws... Dig your extension / work table too. Nice video!
@TheShackHome
@TheShackHome 27 дней назад
Grizzly did at one time have Harvey (but under another name) produce their saws. Grizzly and Harvey had a difference of opinion and Grizzly went their different ways. But Laguna, Grizzly and I think Jet were all manufactures by the same company. After the Grizzly issue Harvey decided to brand themselves. After all they had vast knowledge from producing all the other brands. Either Laguna or jet discontinued a model of their band saw so Harvey got the OK and produced it under their name the Ambassador series, with upgrades. The new Harvey table saws have the big eye fence system and in August at the IWF in Atlanta they will unveil their new nickel plates table top. The gold tin coat didn't do as well as they had hoped. This new nickel coating is on the table top, top and bottom, its dipped like a chrome plating but the trunnion is also nickel plated. Really nice upgrade. I have the Carbon method on my table but Id love to get the new Nickel top just because it shines..

The instruction manual shows a "b" set of screws that hold the riving knife in place, and an "a" set of set screws that adjust the riving knife. I loosened up the B, adjusted the A, alignment looks great...THEN...I retighten the B screws and the knife goes back out of alignment. Hoping you might have some wisdom for me...thanks in advance...

The 3HP does not come with the Dovetail Structured Trunnion System that their 4HP model comes with. How was it adjusting the trunnion to make it square when you got the table saw?
@squareandlevel
@squareandlevel 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and the question. The trunnion setup was slightly out of square to the top in the “dangerous” way when I got the saw. Adjusting it was not difficult. It has set screws that can be used to adjust the trunnion position in relation to the cabinet body once the 4 main bolts are loosened. Then I just squared the blade to miter slots by turning the set screws. One set screw is a little awkward to get to, but not too bad. I probably should have touched on that in the video. I am of the opinion that a large majority of table saw accidents are due to improperly set up saws. Whether it’s the top, trunnion, or fence. There was nothing wrong with my saw because it was out of square when I got it. It is an alignment procedure that needs to be checked on a regular basis. Thanks again for the excellent question. Hope you have a great day!

Significant upgrade from the 1 3/4 hp I had before. Don’t quote me but if I remember correctly the 4hp was only available with the dovetail trunnion system which would probably make the setup up and maintenance of the saw easier than the standard type trunnion setup that the 3hp has. The router extension is very $$$, as you have to buy each component separately. It comes down to personal preference and space requirements. I had a router lift in my old saw left wing and didn’t like it. I decided to build a router table to go under the right wing of the new saw. I put a 2 part video together of table. Please check it out if you’re interested (shameless plug). If you do get the router extension, I would think you would just get the 36” saw and add the router extension to that. Since I don’t have it I can’t really give you any solid advice there. Hope that answers some of your questions. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!

I won't spend that kind of money on a Chinese saw when we can do better.
