I'm 53 now and remember watching the Professionals in awe as a kid. Got the box set of all the episodes so i know the cars off by heart! What a find that is,so good to know that it's with a proper Capri nut and not dissolved into the mists of time, well done to you for your perseverance. It's where it should be now,all the best with it fella.
Nice to see this Adam. Been a while since I saw you, I used to own the black mk2 3.0s with the silver and grey stripe down the door. So glad you now have this👍🏻 Jase.
Thanks mate, welcome along for the ride. We'll have plenty more Capri content, but we'll be mixing it up with other stuff (lancia deltas, dodge vans, kawasaki gpz turbo) which I hope you'll enjoy too. 🙂
Owned (6) - 3ltr Capri's back in the day. Reg. AOE 9T - sold it for deposit on my first house mid 80's. I X-Packed that one. Black body - 9'' Revolution's on the rear and 7'' up front if I recall. Fishnet Recaro - What great car's and great era to be in you 20's.
Thanks for the sub! It might be a little while before we can make headway on this project but I hope you enjoy the other content we'll be putting out in the meantime. 🙂
I think I bought some parts from you, maybe 3 years ago - Weston Supermare(?). Excellent stuff, I am really pleased the car still exists - I remember those Professionals episodes growing up - and look forward to seeing how the restoration progresses. Will be epic when finished!
Recently bought a 1/18 scale model of this very car, available from a company called Model Car Group. It sits nicely in my cabinet alongside Doyles RS2000 Escort, same scale from the same company.
Glad you found this. Owned mark 1 three litre GT XLR, mark 2 three litre Ghia and mark 3 three little Ghia back when they were current. Loved them all. Always liked the professionals too so will be watching this with much interest. The very best of luck with the restoration. 👍
Brought back some good memories that mate cheers , i had lots of 3 litre Capris in the 80,s and one of them was a damaged 3.0S MK11 in black with vinyl roof but was really silver that someone had painted , I put it back to silver with injection pepperpots on approx 1984 , as im a paintsprayer my job , loved them 3 litre Capris reg was SHH 333R , so seeing the black one in your pics then the silver stirred the memories thanks , what else have you got there , projects etc Cheers fella good luck 👍
Well done, great find, be great to see back as it was. I've searched the internet now and again to find out what happened to SOO 636R. I've owned two 3.0S's a Strato Silver BBV 363R and Maroon no sunroof NKT 287R and a manual black vinyl roof Strato Silver 3.0 Ghia WLP 922S at the same time about 20 years ago, the 3.0 Ghia is still on DVLA, but no new owner since 2005 after I got rid of it, it needed some restoration work though, hope it's still around somewhere. I do prefer the Mk II Capri. I did work at Ford Dunton in Essex briefly and went to the Aveley site where these special cars where built.
Well, this has certainly caught the attention of a lot of viewers and deservingly so. Just subscribed and set my notifications. Look forward to watching the journey. Congratulations. Epic car, best car, Ford Capri. When are you starting the work mate?
Thank you Scott, glad to have you on board for our adventures. Bear with us, there will be a bit of non-professionals content we've got to get out of the way for a bit, but as soon as we can we'll be on it. 👌😎
Oh wow - looks like the real deal to me! Key indicators are the single rear leaf spring and those front struts - the Capri didn't get vented discs until the 2.8i. If you do the restoration on the channel, it might help pay for the rebuild? Liked and subscribed - how long before you can really crack on with it? Those wheels are rare too! First car I drove on the road was mk2 3.0 JPS with a 3.1 in it. It was my brothers and I was only 13! You're not going to forget something like that! Later I had a green Mk2 2.0 Ghia but always wanted the 3 litre unit. Watching with interest. Cheers :)
Well spotted on those details. 😎 Yes we're definitely sharing the restoration on this channel. It's a piece of history that deserves to be documented. As he said, Adam has a couple of loose-end projects to finish which will help fund the build. Only being our 16th episode, we're a relatively new channel and not yet big enough to be monetised, so big thanks to folks like you for the like/sub because it all counts to getting us closer to that goal. 😊 3.0 capri at 13!?! Can't be many people that can say that! Mine was my parents 1971 2.0 volvo 145 (as seen a few episodes ago) around a field. Not quite as cool. 😬🤣
What i suspect happened with the engine, (just a shot in the dark really) is that when it went for the X pack, they swapped the engine with a like for like engine that had the mods already done as it stated head work, so would make for a quick turn around and getting the cars out, the original engine would then have probably been modded to the X pack spec and put in the next car that came in to get the mods :) as i say just a shot in the dark but is a practice i have seen used within the modding world :)
@@maconijnr have found out from the guy who drove the car from showroom to showroom to demonstrate the series X models along side standard cars that after this the car went back to averley to have the engine removed for inspection, the findings never told... I expect Martin Shaw gave it too much beans so another was fitted... We think, hence same year of build.
Surely to god that car deserves an absolutely back to totally original spec restoration. Its RU-vid gold ! If done correctly it would be worth eye watering money.
Yeah it'll be to original spec but high standard. I'm even going to try and bully Adam to fully repair put those unique under-lip X-pack wings back in because they are mega-unique!
Excellent video, definitely worth a sub, will be interesting to see how it pans out, only ever owned 1.6 & 2.0 Mk2's back in the day when they were still considered as old bangers although my first car was "apparently" a knackered white 1.6 JPS Mk2 that i paid £100 for but that was nearly forty years ago and the memory is dim 🤣
@@jackrussel853 Glad to have you along for the ride and give you some nostalgic memories of those cool old bangers that used to pass hands for £100! 😎😂
I live in Barnet and want to know more about this now! A 1/18 model of this has just been released by Model Car Group, which I own and can confirm is a lovely model and it’s also being released soon in 1/43 by Corgi with Cowleys Granada in a “Screen Stars” box set.
I use to own VHK 11W It was the gold mk3 3.0s from the Professionals. Flogged it in the 90,s for £1000 thought it was just another 3litre Run of the mill rott box !!! I’m sure I read a few years back it’s was worth £80000 now Gutted !!!!😢
Hi Adam. Great video. I know the ex Ford person you refer to who borrowed the car on weekends. He says he has info for you if there’s a way I can connect the both of you privately?
Did I see a gold mk2 x pack on an early professionals episode? I think it was a ghia and may have had a tan vinyl roof too .i can picture it in my mind but I might be mistaken.
I had a Mk2 3.0s in silver back in the 90's, I always thought the Mk2 was the neatest shape, especially with the S chin spoiler, had a Mk1 3000GXL as well as a Mk2 3.0 Ghia, loved Capri's after dad bought a brand new 1600XL facelift in diamond white with red vinyl followed by a secondhand 3000E, it was the V6 noise that got me hooked
There will be in the future months, so please sit tight. Unfortunately we're both battling either a backlog of projects, full time employment or both! 😬
Only had kn total around five different Capris.. always 1.6 or 2.0 ...i wish I'd kept my mk 1 1600 xl .... always mark 3's after that..i only parted with them because poor advice from non appreciative parents...we love them but they aren't always the wisest ...that was a long time ago. I'm saving for another but I'm only over 4 grand saved so far way off my target .... right 👍 well done for finding the important Capri it's no joke that's gonna be cool
@@MangustoGarage It was Black and not white, it was an X-pack, red interior, and the engine was bored out to make it a 3.1 with a manual gearbox, i remember it being very loud, im going back to 1986-87 when i was a teenager, getting dropped off at school, it was the mkII escort that was the white x-pack, quite lucky really, my uncle was in the 2nd hand car motortrade with a forecourt and my dad worked for him so we went through quite alot of cars in those times. Sorry for the confusion.
Great stuff, looking forward to seeing the progress, can you not have a fibreglass specialist repair those wings I know they look a bit past it but it is repairable fibreglass?
Forgot to mention, a mate had a WM Developments 3.4 litre V6 Capri, which he totalled in a car chase in 85 or 86 on Chase Side Road, Southgate. In those days the rich had Car Phones and we talked to him (he was Hands Free!) during the chase. We were all in the pub waiting for him to turn up and kept hearing his car steam past at high speed several times, followed by the police cars ...
@@MangustoGarage it was a bloody nice car. Don't know whether the engine was buggered or not, as my mate was in hospital for a while and his parents disposed of the car. Weirdest thing was that his parents blamed us for leading their son astray, even though we were in the pub and not in the car with him!
Yup it'll be getting that back! Luckily that looks like it was stripped off when the previous owner started the resto, because we all know how they like to rust underneath! 😬
This is without doubt the best looking capri ever made and also my dream capri. In my dream garage id have the X pack versions of every car that the X pack was fitted to. Here's a question I'd like answered although i apologise as I'm going a bit off track i know but was the Ford Taunus Sp5 (coupe with a mk5 cortina front) ever released, possibly only in Argentina where they were made?
Yeah what a great bit of styling which became popular in the 80's with Integrales and Quattros. I'm sure Adam will be along in a bit to answer the Fordy bit of your question! 😉
@@michaeledwards427 The SP5 is a great looking car, it was made in Argentina but I believe was sold throughout South America. It was never imported into Europe as Ford didn’t want to hit Capri sales.
@@arthurdardalis I know that was why it wasn't for sale in Europe but the question I was trying to ask (which admittedly I missed out! Apologies!!) Is was it ever fitted with the X pack kit in Argentina? If they were fitted with the X pack would it have been the toned down version fitted to cortina saloons or far more beefy? I didn't know that the mk5 cortina front was fitted to the coupe until I found a model of one a couple of years ago at a BTCC race meeting. The box the model is in is entirely in Spanish, so obviously it was made for the Argentinian market. I assume it made its way to the UK as part of a job lot. The different versions of the same Ford cars supplied to different countries has always peaked my interest. For example the four door mk2 Escort RS2000 and the upmarket surf Escort van that were both sold in Australia, that certainly weren't sold in Europe. Also we didn't get the cortina P100 pick ups here until mk5 cortina style was released. It would be a real attention grabber to take a Taunus SP5 to the UK classic Ford show.
@@MrNellie65 Exactly the same here. I've known about the Taunus/cortina relationship for many years, as well as the earlier versions of the coupe. As I said in my post earlier I didn't know until I brought the model that it had ever had the mk5 cortina front end fitted. When I first saw it I thought on earth is that!!! Also have you ever heard of the Ford Otosan Taunus? Mk5 cortina body, rear lights from an Orion and with different front lights. Bootlid is either orion or sierra sapphire. They certainly raided the spare parts department to make it look different.
Here in Australia we got the 70's Ford Capri here (no 80s models) but we would put a Ford 302 cube Windsor or a Ford 351 (5.8 ltr) Windsor or Cleveland as we have them in abundance here from the Falcon/Fairlane., (5.8 ltr) V8 in them until the dickwads in power banned them.
There's a honda xl 125 ( orange one ) out there somewhere been pretty much in all thames tv productions purdy sat on it and the professionals chased it? Where is it?❤
Some bar stool nicked my mk2 last year.so far i ain't heard a thing.and probably never will.what annoys me most is i bought it years ago when they were cheap and it was a good solid example.
If for whatever reason you decide not to restore it, I would be interested in buying it as is (assuming it can be proven beyond all doubt that it is a screen used car from the series as over the years a lot of claimed theirs were but turned out to be clones)
Did you see the video of SOO363R being restored in the Czech republic on youtube. obviously not the real car but it was being shown at car shows. It does prove that there are 'fakes' all over the place.
That's literally 70s/80s Ford right there for you, they had absolutely no pride. You'd never see a bmw like that. If you see an important Ford with dead straight numbers, THAT'S when you have to start asking questions. 😬
If the guy you bought it off had it in his garage for over 30 years as you state in your video how come it had a last keeper change on 24/01/2013. Plus before it was Sorn it was last Taxed in 1985!
There is a story behind this that we might be able to address in the future, for legal reasons not directly involving us, we didn't mention it in this video. Stay tuned though. 👍
Recently saw VHK497S which was also a 3 litre S, in a barn in Kent. This is an ex Press car that was fitted with X pack bodywork, a rarted up engine with triple carbs and I suspect an LSD. The car was later used a a Pace Car at several Kent race tracks. The owners moved to Kent, where their new house was reached via a rough track. The car has to be trailered in and hasn't moved in several years. The car is in good nick bodywise, but the owner cannot get it started, so it just sits in the shed. Shame really.....
That's criminal! We'd love to know if that X-pack kit has the same folded back lip on it as this one. We've never seen another one like it, and Adams seen A LOT of mk2 Capri x packs!
@@MangustoGarage check mail. Also had a guy I worked with, who rebuilt his MK1 RS3100. Lovely looking Capri, which he swore blind he would take me for a ride in before he left, but never did, the tart!
Look around at any car of that era, Ford weren't exactly known for their quality control. In fact, if you see perfectly straight VIN stamping that's when you want to be asking questions.
@@adsblimey3644 why doesn’t he show us the chassis ID plate or part of it that he has hanging up to convince people it is that car ? and whats Ireland got to do with it ?
A 5 year old Huawei! 😬 Being on holiday I couldn't take my 4k camera down with me.......... OK I'm joking I don't even own one! 🤣 But if you think this is bad, think yourself lucky we didn't use Adam's phone! 🤣 Camera upgrade is definitely on the cards though. 👍
Looks better than many others I've seen.. think Klaus but have had a few steins at lunch before he stamped it at cologne. It has the stars in it before and after the number which cannot be bought so I'm sure it's 100% genuine.
@@MangustoGarage 🤣blimey imagine..here’s some info Lewis Collins grew up in the house at the end of my road my claim to fame looking forward to the restoration
He says "What we BELIEVE to be SOO 636R, Keep an OPEN MIND alot has been done to this car! "I want you to see why I THINK this is the original car" these are his words not mine. How come it's had so much work done? I thought it had been in the former owners garage for over 30 years? So thought it would have still been Black with the accident damage? Engine numbers are part of a cars ID. They should always match the VIN plate and number stamped into the shell, Factory chassis numbers are always stamped straight. One thing that made me laugh is when he says "It's in Red oxide primer for some reason? I don't no why maybe to keep rust at bay or what ever reason" Yet in his garage he has another Capri in the same Red oxide primer! To be honest there were Two guy's long before any one else back in the late 80's early 90's who looked for all the Professionals Capri's. and at that time could only find Two! Some folk may know who I mean but if not watch "The Car's The Star" on the Ford Capri and you will see them. It is on You Tube I believe! They found VHK 11W and VHK 12W and know all about these cars! The video is all smoke and mirrors in my opinion in what he says and what he shows us!
With all due respect I have had hundreds of capris and your criticisms of this vid shows you obviously have not. Yes people need to keep an open mind as there's a car in Ireland that people have been convinced is SOO but that has no numbers at all!! As for the actions of the previous owner i think it's unfair to hold these guys liable really, plus there's only one car in red oxide in the garage Yes Alan j is a guy I know and would give me credit for being able to spot something not genuine. As for the chassis number it is as straight as ford ever did and has the stars before and after that cannot be replicated, I don't know why it's been ribbed in the comments as it's still half full of paint so not totally clear on the video anyway, If you don't think this car is SOO then your welcome to your opinion but the points you have raised are pretty naff really. And if you haven't worked out I'm the guy in the video😂
@@adsblimey3644 Hi Adam, Thank you for your reply but I was hoping you would answer my questions about the car? I hope you don't mind but there are a few things that I would like to say! Back in 1996 I saw VHK 11W and VHK 12W at a Capri owners Club show. It was the first time they had been seen in public. I was lucky enough to meet and chat to the Two guy's who owned them. There were many photos of how the cars were found, restored and finished on display but there was also a file on the table which most people didn't bother with. I asked if I could look at it which I did and inside were correspondents from the DVLA and the Two guy's regarding the other Proffessionals Capri's! including SOO 636R. One of the owners came over to me and said you"re one of few people that have bothered looking at that! He said that they have tried to find all of them but according to DVLA records non of the other Capri's used (apart from COO 251T which had been reshelled somewhere along the line) existed at that time! Please remember this is before systems were on the internet. I don't want to say names and say to much about this subject as it's not really my place to say but you seem to know them? I believe one of the guy's still has that file. Regarding the engine in your Capri. You say the numbers don't match! The chap you bought it off assured you that it is the original engine. It can't be the original engine if the numbers don't match. If AVO removed the engine when Ford owned it there is no way that AVO would have put a replacement engine in it in such a new car. When SOO 636R was new it had tripple webber carbs. There were also one or Two unique things to it's bodyshell. The advert you show doesn't proof that it is SOO 636R for sale. When and where was it for sale? Am not holding the former keeper liable for anything, it's just that you mention him quite alot in your video. History about it.. In your video you state there is a picture of it in 1991 on your friend's drive. Is he the guy you are talking about? the former keeper? The reason I ask is on Capri World there is a chap called Mark Francis who replies to a question "where was the car collected from?" He says "If you're watching the video infect you'll see that there is a photo of the car painted Black in the late 80's and is on the driveway where we picked it up from." Yet you say the photo was from 1991? You also state that you tried to find SOO 25 years ago which would be 1999 but you couldn't find it. Yet reading inbetween the lines it appears that it's been in the same place for over 30 years! So from the photo on your video of your friend's drive to Mark Francis saying it was collected from the same driveway why would you look for it in 1999? You state that the photo is round 1991 around the year it had the accident!! So if I understand it right The owners friend was driving it on Barnet High Street cira 1991. Why was his friend driving it in London when the owner lived in Essex as stated on Capri World by Mark Francis! Was it crashed by your friend who's driveway it was on or the friend of the owner? As they seem one of the same! Because who evers friend it was the driveway has to be in Essex!! I bet the then owner hit the roof when it was recovered from Barnet! It just seems all abit odd! If you could enlighten me about it? Are there any photos of it with the accident damage? Who has done all the work on the bodyshell. When did you buy it? By the way SOO 636R was built in October 1976. I have SOO 636R original engine number if you need it but am guessing you already know it from the V5c.
For someone who seems to know a lot about SOO you would appear to know nothing about SOO The car was never on tripple Webber’s , single twin carb. Oversized. This is the original engine worked on by Ford at AVO. and it does not match the log book . Perhaps the fake SOO does have the same engine no as the log book . The crash to correct was in Barking and some street furniture . The car was partially repaired and left for 30 years in the garage.
@@stuartnicholls4110 And you are? Who? Did you work on it? It is a known fact that all Ford cars of that era the Engine number matched the last Two letters and Five numbers of the chassis/VIN number it is part of the cars ID.
