He certainly has NOT. 1) 5 wins vs division foes. 2 vs bears/vikings 1 vs titans. That's 8 of 9 wins vs literally the worst teams in the NFL. Fact is he did enough to win the nfls weakest division against terrible teams. That's it. 2) When playing teams with winning records that leaves a nice 1-8 mark. With the solitary quality win vs a Philly team the entire world unanimously agrees didn't bother to try in any phase. He's yet to win vs a quality foe. 3) He's frequently off target. So many times he has his receiver wide open...and misses...and by a significant bit lol. And when he playing from behind he withers. I think he's done enough to merit a better payrate...but still on short term. Unless he cab string wins together vs contenders it's a wasted venture

For some context, Baker gets drafted 1st overall to the Browns, a bad team (a story that never ends well for any QB). He actually does a pretty good job but suffers some injury setbacks. He then gets shuffled to the Panthers, an even worse team. He then gets shuffled to the Rams, his first good team, and he learns the playbook in a couple days and plays great. Since the Rams have Stafford, he gets shuffled to the Bucs, a bad team (went 8-9 last year with Brady, the GOAT)....and yet he's now 10-8 heading into the divisional round of the playoffs. Think about all that change taking place during your 20's with different teams, coaches, coordinators, playbooks, fans, cities, relationships, etc. Whatever he lacks, it's not mental toughness.

Facts no matter how well Baker plays he will get discredited. He’s a guy people love to play with. If Baker played this year went 4-13 19 TD 15 INT everyone would would be like oh we expected him to play like this, etc. If he could stay in a constant system he could absolutely shine but nobody wants to see that. To be fair, Brady won a Super Bowl. I still think this conversation is disrespectful to Baker. Baker has more playoff victories than most of the younger QBs getting paid more than him, has been the only QB in decades with any success with the Browns, and is a big reason why the current Bucs are in the playoffs and won a game. Baker deserves the credit for the success he has had. The only real knock against him is his time with Carolina and his last season with the Browns where the team went out of their way to harm Baker (playing him injured, front office comments on him, Odell's dad stirring up issues) to get Watson. The Rams team he played for last year was massively injured and didn't have most of their best weapons, there is a reason the Panthers were bad last year and the year before, and Tampa was a losing team the year before in an arguably weaker division. Baker is a good QB and if you can secure him to a deal making $30-$40M a year, he may be worth it and allow for the Bucs to build around him amd fill their other holes. The other question is who would the Bucs get if they don't keep Baker. They draft too late for the top talent QBs, any trades would possibly cost more, and draft trades would prevent the Bucs from filling other holes. A couple year deal would be good for both the Bucs and Baker, giving Baker some consistency with a team that wants him and has some faith in him and giving the Bucs a chance to build a better team.

OBJ was possibly the worst thing to come to Cleveland, whatever happened between them he was not catching balls that were directly to his hands or catchable by his standards. Not saying Bakers throws are all good cause he missed alot but those in the last season were 100% catchable. Saw way more from Baker with multiple coaches then I have seen from Watson with one. @@DadefreshXL

Some people clearly misremember Baker's exit in Cleveland. A washed OBJ blamed his struggles on Baker (but the team was better when OBJ didn't play). Then Baker was forced to play hurt. He never had consistency in the front office. He brought the team from 0-16 to 11-5 and beating a division rival in the playoffs. Let's not act like it was Baker's fault. Cleveland got enticed at the prospect of Deshaun Watson and tossed him aside like trash

Tomlin had zero franchise QB since Big Ben, what he did with the Steelers has been a plus. Baker looks like a franchise QB but these days teams are looking to sign ELITE QB, not just franchise QB. Bakers deserve the same deal as Geno Smith, but I doubt if he think hes only worth that much.

The problem with today is QB gets way too much blame and way too much credit. If you actually watched Bucs games all year, you could probably throw 2-3 losses on Baker specifically. The one argument any of them made against Baker that I agree with was when Jones talked about his consistency. Baker does have those stinkers a little too often. But the rest was just noise based on judging a young QB growing up in terrible organizations.

Yeah, none of them brought up any statistics to prove their point, it was pure conjecture. Also, we can assume that they haven’t really been watching any of the Bucs games based on the conversation as well. So, what they did was look at the Bucs record and regurgitated media talking points ie “the NFC South is the worst division in the league” I’m honestly not so sure about that and “they had a bad year” they did not have a bad year they had some really decent showing even in loses. Baker had over 4,000 yrs passing 26 TDs and like 10 ints those aren’t bad stats they’re above average. However, I do agree that he is a bridge QB for now unless he goes off next year.

I’m not sure how well you comprehended that point. The defense that forced five TO in that playoff game vs. PIT was led by an All Pro. He had dogs around him, which was also my point. As a Bucs fan, I wasn’t on board with adding Baker but understood why because of dead cap money issue. Wasn’t impressed during the but he looked really good in the playoff win. He surprised me, but I think he should get a 2-3 year deal. This is what Bucs should have done with Winston if he cut his interceptions in half. Hope Baker keeps surprising me the rest of the playoffs.

I believe the Bucs are going to win this weekend. Baker had earned a long term contract. I think he deserves a 5 years $190 - $200 milllion contract. You have to remember, this is his first year in this system. He is still learning the offense and getting to know his receivers. $40 million a year for a good to very good QB in today's dollar is not a big amount. How much did the Giants give Daniels Jones? Baker is much better than Daniel Jones.

Which unemployed QB or backup QB out there that are better than Baker? $35 - $40 million next season is like $30-$35 million this season because the cap goes up. So $35 million to a better than above average QB is about right. Daniel Jones got paid 40 million per year and Baker is a whole lot better than Daniel Jones. Sign him and draft a QB in later rounds and hope you hit a lottery. Otherwise, who are out there that would give you a better option? I don't count his season with the Panthers because look at what happened to Panthers QBs the past 4 plus seasons. None of the QBs including Cam Newton did good. This year the number one pick looked like a huge bust. Are we already saying Trey Young (I think) is a bust because he sucks this year with the Panthers? If not, then we have to do the same for Baker. Baker was decent with the Rams for a few games and they don't want to pay him big money to backup Stafford who just got paid. But if Stafford retired this year, I am sure the Rams will sign Baker. Bakers did a really good job for the Bucs this season.

Long term deal? Probably not. 3 years, maybe 50 guaranteed and 75 total doesn't sound too unreasonable. The one thing I will say in defense of Baker is that it's hard for him to be consistent if the team around him isn't or if he's hurt like he was his second season with the Browns. Give him an opportunity to build with coach Bowles and the players around him, build confidence and trust, and if his play improves and elevates year after year, then you know it's time for that long term deal
