So update on this winch I bought one back in January I mounted it to the hitch mount plate and have used it in multiple situations. Honestly I wasn’t kind at all but it performed great until the other night. I attempted to skid a large hemlock out of the woods and it almost accomplished the job but unfortunately I found the breaking point. The winch blew apart at the mount points the cast housing on both sides of the drum let go. I feel like this tool was pushed well past it’s recommended use and am very impressed that the critical failure did not stop the winch from spooling in or out

You can use a roller fairing with the synthetic, as long as you have no damage to the surface of the rollers. It also has a beeter chance of not hurting or melting the rope becasue of friction if your angle is steeper than normal. But steel is better for heavy use. The steel cable helps to cool the motor. And under heavy use the heat of the motor can damage the synthetic rope.

Harbor Freight has been adding commercial grade lines to their inventory. Such as the Earthquake 1/2 inch composite air impact wrench is a higher quality than the Snap-on version. The Hercules 12 inch miter saw is becoming the job site replacement. With the extended warranty a contractor can take it to the store and walk out with a new one. It is slowly replacing the Dewalt miter saw for dependability and quick turn around if there is an issue. This is not a paid endorsement. I have these tools and use them.

Nothing out of Harbor Freight is meant to be commercial rated. This is more for weekend off-roaders and hobby ranchers who subscribe to "better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it" who can easily shell out $600 for one and maybe another $600 for a back-up.

@@dylantheshotgunner5136 I have nothing against Harbor Freight ... I think they do an awesome job of trying to get affordable products to consumers not wanting to overspend for the best. My problem is with people, like the original poster, who insist that every product out there be commercially rated when the target market obviously are common consumers who are willing to pay a fraction of the price to get what they want to satisfy their most basic needs at home, their small ranch, or their small farm.

I'm sure you've found out by now, but the extra mounting bracket and cables are to relocate the solenoids. That entire top housing comes off and mounts on the big mounting bracket. I'm amazed they included everything to relocate (close anyways) in the box and not as an aftermarket kit.

I once heard the best argument I've ever heard for a quick disconnect on a winch. There were a few stories some years ago talking about people heading up north (in Australia, gnarled 4wd country) and waking up or returning to their rigs after the local kids connected the winch cable to the towball and stuffed aluminium Foil into the remote connector and folded cars in half or folding boat trailers onto roofs.

Manual controls at the winch means you'd be using it while standing "in the bite", that goes against all recommendations and safety protocols when winching. Now for rewinding unhooked, makes sense. Pulling a load, nope
