Alarm bells should have rang once JL disclosed he sledges his daughter during a game of scrabble. Always felt hard-taskmaster is a euphemism for a Bully. For motivated athletes hard work is a default setting. JL sounds like killjoy.

Im an Englishman and watched the test recently on Amazon Prime. I was SHOCKED at the way Langer was treating the players, like they're school children. He seems like an absolute arsehole to be honest. I actually felt sorry for the Aussie players to be honest, and thats saying something.

Coaching and captaincy must be just the most BS jobs in sports. I mean ppl wanted Shastri's head in India after 36 all out and now after a historic win, it's all Rahane and the team. Such a thankless job. Stop blaming Langer. These are grown men, adults who are playing for the Aus national team. Coach can't teach professional athletes much about improving their game. The captain leads the team on the field and players win/lose a game period.

It was clear to see even in the Amazon series that the players weren't comfortable with JL and he seemed like a strict school teacher from the 1980s. With international teams, a coach should be more like Phil Jackson where you try to figure out who is motivated by what, how to manage the personalities, how to bring a team together. Dennis Roadman vanished in the middle of a playoff series to gamble, do drugs, and party in Vegas. Rodman wasn't disciplined for that because Phil Jackson, Michael Jordan, and the Bulls understood that Rodman was doing his best and that he needed to let off steam from time to time. After a few days Jordan showed up to bring Rodman back, he was welcomed in the team without any resentment or anger but with affection, Rodman went back to contributing like a champ, and the Bulls won the world championship again. At the highest level, its about managing different people differently in a way that brings out the best, its about forging team unity, and about big picture motivation. This is not a job for stern school teachers. If someone in the team requires their stomach to be tickled and you need that person then you damn well should tickle their stomach to bring out the best in them.

While Langer has done some good things during his tenure I think it has been overestimated to some extent. Apart from Labuschagne and perhaps Cummins is there any other player in this Australian lineup who has improved during his tenure. He has stewarded the team well in certain aspects of the teams image but my concern is that he might be limited in what he is capable of getting out of these players. In the arguably the two most important series during his tenure the team has come unstuck in large portions of the series. The Ashes, while thrilling, were largely dominated by poor performances on both sides culminating in the big loss in that final test. This latest India series had large parts where Australia was unable to stamp home their advantage despite having our full strength lineup. The test team under Langer has appeared to be unable to adapt their strategies in pressure situations which may or may not be Langers fault but I think results have shown that questions need to be asked.

As an Englishman who is a die hard English cricket fan and all too scarred from previous issues with coaches, selectors and the like it's quite comforting that it's happening to other teams and a bit of banter if these issues can continue at least thru The Ashes later this year that would be great. Langer was the right person to get them through sandpapergate and to instil discipline and stability to the dressing room, now the Aussies need someone who can let the players express themselves without fear. Aussie dressing room have probably seen the way Morgan/Root and Bayliss/Silverwood do their man management and see that as the way forward? Australia have world class players who are already good enough, they need a coach that allows them to flourish, rather than a strict headmaster. You’re right, as a Pom, I’d love for Langer to still be in charge in December 😉

A year on, a T20 World Cup and 4-0 Ashes thrashing of us later, it does seem amazing that JL not only survived but got the team playing very well. So you have got to wonder whether JL changed his style or the team were told to knuckle down on the understanding from CA that his contract would not be renewed. Either way, would love to see JL coach the England side. He would never put up with all this long term planing bollocks, losing series after series.

Any path that leads to Maxwell in the test team is a path worth taking.

Justin Langer is a nightmare of a micro manager. In the corporate world he would not have staff working for him. Unfortunately the team does not have a choice.

Although both of them were pretty similar as players and coach, I still hope langer doesn't get kumbled.

I think Australia has been underachieving with Langer and Paine. AUS has world class players like Smith, Labuschagne, Hazlewood, Cummins, Starc, Warner, Lyon...but they haven't won anything significant yet since 2018........I think Langer and Paine are more worried about public relations and brand image rather than winning games of cricket lol.

I hope Paine stays, can't put a finger on it but there's something about him that fits his role as a skipper.

Langer is not what Australia needs. He's a vibes coach. Players like Burns, Pucovski, Green, Stoinis need a coach. A good technically sound coach who knows how to improve players. Improve the technique, the temperament and the ability to deal with pressure.

I see JL as very childish... Who plays a sport and never wants to lose! A lot of accumulated unfulfilled desire has manifested into misery and that's what he is spreading around! If you look at Rahane, he would say he wants to go out there and do his best and leave the rest to fate!! Rahane is like a monk.. Who doesn't have any desire... To be caption or hold glittering trophy ... But he has lots of Grace... His very name means invincible Even Kohli lacks Grace... Look at all the IPL results for him I won't be surprised if England beat India once or twice... Coach like Langer was necessary for australia after the sandpaper gate because there was no one to lead the team , paine was not someone who everybody would have followed . So the coach had to take the lead role in the dressing room. The dillema with aus is that they can't make Smith or Warner the captain cause they have done something which will not make them good in the eyes of coplayers. The best captain for me is nathan Lyon , that will make Langer pretty much useless.

In my opinion if things don't go the Aus team way Justin Langer kinda bring that under pressure vibe which may be affecting the dressing room in negative way but I may be wrong

It’s Langer Management mate! 😂 Feel sorry for the Aussie team under him, his intense style of coaching is not going down well with the team and it reflects on their performance. They need someone who is chill and professional at the same time and the players need to enjoy playing the game. Right now it looks like a hot mess! I think Langer needs to go if Australia cricket has to prosper. Nothing personal against the guy I’m sure his intentions are good but he is just not the right fit.

All this seems more intense because of quarantine conditions. People start getting petty when they are forced to live together.

I’m guessing langer is ruling the team like he would have ruled it in 2005. But this team isn’t a team with ponting, McGrath, warne, Clarke, Gillespie, Hayden. He has to realise that this team is a good team, but not a great team. They aren’t as good as he once was. I assume that’s what’s going on

Justin Langer fails to boost the dressing room's morale up. Yes you're in that position as a "coach" but when you're playing at that highest of level do you really need coaching or do you need to get the mindset right when you're having a rough patch. Ravi Shastri seems to be great at doing that and that's why he's not just a coach but more of a team manager who understands how important it is to get the frame of mind of the players into right spot and that's one of the reasons why they bounced back in the 2nd test the way they did after that 36 all out.
