Hi I don't know if you read these comments now but I hope you do. I have just recently started collecting 60-70s models and have enjoyed your videos, you have been an inspiration and a great ambassador for mamod. I hope you will do some more stuff with older models I'm sure it would be appreciated.
@PLAYINGAROUND
@PLAYINGAROUND 3 года назад
Yes, I do read them, but I don't always get the notifications. As for further steam stuff, there's a chance if Meccano related, but since all this crap with Manod I've fallen out with the general steam hobby. You never know though.

I am actually 12 years old now, and i got my first for my 9th birthday which was a mamod te1a and it wouldnt work at all on my birthday and my gramp took me right across the country to get it fixed, and its worked like a dream ever since. Ive just been hooked since then and built my collection which is almost 20 engines of all kinds now.

Like you have been a fan of Mamods for years and have a few. i have also noticed the drop in quality with a couple of the new ones but this was shocking. the only way in my mind it was damaged was all to do with the bubble wrap. some ape must of shoved it so hard without a care in the world as you showed to other parts just thrown in the bottom. this just makes me think second hand for older ones with better build standards even if they require restoration. but send it back and if it does not meet the standard it should have right go.
@PLAYINGAROUND

***** It would have had to have taken quite some effort to bend and twist the engine frame that way, but it's a possibility. With a bit of luck I may have a follow up on this one.
@jacobaddis2644

oh yeah aswell if you look after them they will never let you down i bought mine second hand for half the price of a brand new one, it was basically in brand new condition.

I own 5 Mamod models, 4 of which are well worn/played with. Other than wear and tear, I couldn't find as many faults across the 4 than just this one! However the otherwise unused early Roadster model is a nightmare to run. OK; I'm old and severely arthritic, but the steering is so loose that after a few inches it swings wildly to one side or the other. You can check it out on my channel if you care to. Over time I will be adding more content about all my models with the accent on the 3" Maxitrak Aveling & Porter. I'm saddened to see that the Mamod company is heading towards the Chinese 'standards' of the 20th century while the Chinese are bounding forward to take the model steam world into a new century with improving quality. Most of the Banggood items available seem to be of the highest quality micro engineering of the space race. Where available I would buy components and even many models from there in preference to most other sources. Their prices are unbelievable! I have no financial ties to Banggood!

Not surprised. Wouldn't be surprised if the loco' derailed over the points too.

I have a 1963 screwed te1 in very bad condition. i t has had a hard life for something so beautiful . mine is still streight dispite boxes of heavy meccano been put on top of it i think it was dropt upside down before roof was fitted. it didnt fit together as it should and they knew it would be returned so spent no time packing box correctly. the safety sticker probably went on before roof was fitted and before damage was done to engine mount, pisrton valve ,steam cap and dint on top filler cap. may explaile scratch as bubble wrap cant do it and if it was ramed in it would pop bubbles before breaking engine. hope you git it replaced.. old ones are always best

Hello pa I got a wilesco d 405 after having mamod you should try one the piston is double action and no clicking sound and less messy than the mamod it goes at a more realistic speed I can't fault the workmanship on it perfect for running your ferris wheel you can get a nice slow tick over without all the problems of the mamod lever

I've just got the wilesco d 405 I'm fed up with the shoddy mamods the paint work is good with no loose axele the piston is double action that doesn't rattle about nice slow tick over I got some solid fuel tablets from a camping shop for 199 and cut them in half so what did I find with wilesco theire tablets stink like pee nice little engine wilesco
@bruceang82
@bruceang82 6 лет назад
there is no doubt in my mind that it was packed & shipped in the condition you found it in....I bought a brand new Mamod special addition SP2 and you could tell the factory people had trouble getting the chimney on the base ...so they just forced it on ...bending the chimney stand & the chimney still rattled loosely all over the place scratching many areas...."AND THIS WAS A STEAM CLUB MODEL" , admittedly I am not a fan of Mamod products & I don't understand their loyal following for such shoddy poor quality products, I wont buy another product from them, for the money I much prefer Wilesco mobiles . its a shame they didn't take any more pride in their work than to send that to you as they did, that big brass lump of a cylinder (the best part of the engine) looks to be about 25% bigger than the rest of the engine, rather disproportionate imo.
@PLAYINGAROUND
@PLAYINGAROUND 6 лет назад
They only did that run of specials if it was promised that I was not allowed to have one, presuming that the SP1 you mention was actually an SP2. If Mamod had nothing to hide or worry about, why such a restriction?
@bruceang82
@bruceang82 6 лет назад
you are correct...it was/is an SP2, they had to be paid for in advance & they really raped me on shipping , over $48.00 as I recall...to receive a perfectly packaged engine with plenty of internal damage , I really think they've got the wrong person in quality control (if they even have anyone) my damage was obvious & blatant !
@PLAYINGAROUND
@PLAYINGAROUND 6 лет назад
There's a few wrong people in place to my mind. Ruined the hobby for me.
@bruceang82
@bruceang82 6 лет назад
Please don't let it ruin your steaming experience , if they get enough complaints they'll be either forced to do something about it....or be forced out of business for the above (very fixable ) reasons. I believe we look at quality similarly ....these aren't top shelf steam engines...but we're not even getting what we paid for...a complete engine without factory damage.
@PLAYINGAROUND

A scan of the last few steam videos will show that I haven't done a steam, at least, Maod steam video for probably about three years, which shows that they have spoit the hibby for me, although I do have other makes that I have purchased, such as Mercer, Meccano, Bowman and Stuart, but rarely does any of them get steamed. Must thin out the Mamod stuff from the collection one day.

Such a shame as the price goes up and up and the quality constantly decreases. I bought a brand new mamod traction engine about five years ago and the quality was absolutely awful. Poor paint work and finish and the front axle about an inch too long.

@PLAYINGAROUND
@PLAYINGAROUND 6 лет назад
I wasn't going to waste my time or warranty. Put it another way, you buy a new a car that has dent and scratches, but the engine runs. It's not acceptable.
@Shipwright1918
@Shipwright1918 6 лет назад
That would depend upon the car, but I see your point. If it's under warranty, I suppose it would be best to make use of it and send it back, I wasn't aware these models from Mamod even came with any sort of warranty, my only experience has been with Accucraft and Wilesco so far.
@PLAYINGAROUND
@PLAYINGAROUND 6 лет назад
If I recall correctly, they should have a 12 month warranty, as is the norm' with things these days, but once they look at things differently, but it's been a long time since I had a converstation with them at all, let alone about the warranty. This one was a shed before it was put in the box, let alone taken out of it, and at £420 or so quid, without a gas burner I may add (that's another £110 or so), it just wasn't good enough. And that's putting it mildly.
