I never played Mario 64 when I was younger, I played it for the first time when it came to Switch. I usually don't have much patience for old games but I got all 120 stars and loved it. Mario 64 has aged but it's aged gracefully. It's definitely not unplayable
Hey Wulf Bros! Love the show. Captain America movies do just put wives to sleep. My wife and I were watching Civil War and fell asleep almost instantly, but during the scene in Berlin hotel room when zemo just killed the psychologist. And room service Knox because my wife sometimes talks in her sleep and her first language is German she responded with what I can only imagine is no I didn’t order any room service. PS does anyone else yell backlog along, and then move their head like a bobble head when the music plays during the backlog or is it just me?
I would like to mention that not only was Nintendo trying to figure out how to do 3D, they were trying to code in C, which wasn’t widely adopted in the industry yet. The inefficiencies that Kaze Emanuar found in Super Mario 64’s code makes it look sloppy. But a lot of us that have done hundreds of play-throughs don’t care because the game handles great.
The games is programmed on a dpad not analogue so c stick still only goes up down left right. NO 8 directional input making it feel janky and heavy instead of smooth and fluently flow
How fitting, I just beat Super Mario 64 roughly 1-2 weeks ago for the first time via the WiiU virtual console. I agree with all the criticism and praise that Bob gave. Matched up with my playthrough experience and accounted for both my frustrations and joy with it. I figured since it is so prevalent in the speed running community I'd give it a shot! And now having gone through it(stopped at ~80 stars though because I didn't care for 100%) i have gained so much more respect for those that play it competitively
Something that you boys seems to not understand about the strike that Voice actors are properly covered under the current agreement, it's the mocap team that technically aren't covered. Which kind of sucks but at the same time I can see the point of view of the Video Game companies as raw mocap data is practically unusable and takes a lot of work from riggers and animators to make usable. Using AI will actually remove the work from the riggers and animators, not the mocap workers
The goal should be if it is hit, Bob has to make a ten minute video about why he is in love with the PlayStation portal and how he was wrong to mock the dad station. It can be a gag for all I care, I just think it would be funny.
I got the Mario & Sonic 2020, and was really upset that there wasn't a 2022 (or 2018). I prefer Winter Olymics and the fact that they weren't made at all for the Switch was frustrating.
If i were a voice actor, I'd like a clause on the contract to say if AI were to be utilised for my voice, it has to be only when I'm deceased or when I'm currently unavailable and they need a line added in last minute and the lines added has to be less than 5% of the overall dialogue used. And for any one line of AI used i the game, I would get compensation.

It's still fun to play, and new ways to beat the game in record time and using new techniques are still being pioneered to this day. And I for one love watching that. Best game of all time imo, it's aged the opposite of poorly
What aged poorly with Mario 64 starting day one were the level hints. Specifically "wall kicks will work" for one of the snow levels. I spent ages trying to jump at those walls and actually kick. Cause when you press the punch button during a jump, you kick. Well, guess what?Wall kicks will NOT work. Cause they meant wall jumps! Jumping off the wall. Apparently Nintendo called those wall kicks? WELL THEN DONT MAKE MARIO KICK DURING A JUMP then MAYBE a stupid kid wouldn't spend weeks trying to get their final star by literally kicking wall! What's worse is you do bounce off a wall a little when kicking it. So I just thought I was bad at it for way too long. But I'm not bitter 30 years later.
Random question for Bob and maybe chat, I am trying to get joycon shells to make an indigo GameCube colored joycon. Any idea where I can find that color shell? I’m sure it exists somewhere but can’t seem to find it anywhere
Bob, you don’t like Banjo-Kazooie for the same reason you don’t like Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess, I think. Those are the type of linearly designed games that require players to acquire specific abilities to have access to certain areas at certain times, even backtracking sometimes because you couldn’t get something before, Banjo is not that similar to Mario 64 like people always think, I don’t even think it’s a 3D platformer like Mario. Some of us love those types of games, other players prefer games that give you all abilities at once and you can go and do anything you want, one design is not better than the other.
As far as I know RPCS3 is actually in a better state than Xenia. There’s still a bunch of games that don’t work properly on Xenia. But I guess the same can be said about RPCS3.
"Aged poorly" doesn't deserve the bad connotations. It's flat out wrong to think products made decades ago would measure up to today's standards entirely. Simon's Quest was one of the first games of its kind, of course it's got issues. Mario 64 was the first of its kind, of course it's controls don't transition perfectly today. It's common sense, not some mind blowing revelation, and these games don't deserve flack for walking so others could run.
honestly i disagree with counterstrike being hard to watch if you dont know anything about the game.. give it 4 rounds and then everybody should know whats up. i mean, i even got my mom AND my grandma into it. my mom is even more invested than i am, and the only gaming experience she had was summer/wintergames way, waaaay back
58:52 Do not, I repeat. Do not plug the Oculus quest in with a cable. Valve released an app for the quest. That works about the same if not slightly better wirelessly for steam vr
I personally preferred crash bandicoot just for the Linear A to B platforming vs the Mario 64 trying to figure out how to get another star in the same level approach
In terms of between Super Mario 64 & Crash 1, 64 wins, But Crash 2 & 3? They are better than Mario 64. And it's not just because I prefer linear style 3D games over openess collecthon ones; although I agree, but the quality of both games holds up really well than Mario 64.
I was really surprised how much I did not enjoy Mario 64. I’ve gamed since Super Nintendo but skipped over the 64 growing up. I just didn’t like the game. Felt and controlled weird. I think the N64 had to be enjoyed in the era to really enjoy it. Just felt janky to me and always thought the controller was nonsense, haha
It was an age where just moving around in a 3d space freely was so fun and new. So experiencing 3d spaces in later titles, then going back to probably the first game to get it right, well, yeah. Tough to love.
@@melon3109 I love most older games too! Think the N64 era just passed me over and like you said, kinda tough to go back to. Don’t think they hold up as well as SNES games but yeah, new 3D tech at the time
