Simon's ability to tackle difficult puzzles but also be completely unable to tell when he's not meant to be able to solve something yet even though that's immediately obvious to anyone else is what makes watching him play these games so fascinating. Of course at least half the time he still manages to solve it anyway which only encourages the behavior.

Did you watch the one where someone missed putting in a clue when translating a puzzle into their software and Simon solved the puzzle anyway?

what actually kills me (in a humorous way) is watching him take several minutes to think through all the possibilities before just points his glowing cursor at the one actively pulsating button, where someone trained on video game puzzles would've done that instantly and with barely a thought xD

1:08:00 I can't believe he actually figured out the rules of the puzzle the way the dev intended, and without doing the tutorial. So many people, me included, ended up with different arbitrary rules for this series of puzzles, and is probably considered the most obscure section of the game.

I missed the live stream, and I've not even started watching the game yet, but just watching you two set everything up is SO entertaining and refreshing. This stuff is either cut out or just polished by experience on so many streams these days. Here, it's a refreshing glimpse into reality to watch you two banter in high spirits about it all. Just like CtC, really. No tricks; just record and go. I love this so much.

This was so much fun to watch! I especially liked the dynamic of Simon and Mark solving the puzzles together - it differentiates this playthrough from Simon's playthrough of The Witness, even though many of the puzzle mechanics are similar. Please do stream more of Taiji.

While it probably doesn't feel it, I think you did some great progress - Two areas with only a couple of puzzles remaining, one where you don't know the rules to the puzzles you're missing yet, the other you're in the process of navigating to where to get to those puzzles. In Witness terms, the game has 9 beams total and you're about 90% towards two of them.

I completely failed to learn the flower puzzle rule precisely for this reason, the tutorial puzzles allow so many solutions it is easy to think the only one you tried is the only solution and thus learn nothing about the actual rule it is attempting to teach you.

Rather impressed seeing the way he tackled things, in a very Simon sort of way. Very minor spoilers: Impressed with him going to the mansion pretty early, and picking up on not only "hidden clues", but also solving things. He hasn't seemed to pick up on the "you haven't learned this yet" style of gameplay, where you generally start with easier versions of rules in their dedicated area, and use/combine rules later in harder puzzles. Witness had a lot of this, for example. AKA Simon gameplay: Ignore things that may feel obvious, but also cruise through much harder things. And yeah, black/white are kinda annoying. Even after I 100%, those I still had some guessing on.

Spoiler free rules explanation (covers only the rules Simon and Mark discovered during this session, doesn't spoil any future rules): Environment: You have to stand on the starting square of the puzzle to activate it Some puzzles affect the environment Some puzzles you need to walk across, you can only step orthogonally and can't backtrack. Black and white blocks: Match the block pattern so that white blocks are white and black blocks are black. For missing blocks, if the majority of adjacent blocks are white shade it black, if the majority of adjacent blocks are black shade it white. Dots: If a square has dots it must be enclosed in a group with that number of squares A group can be shaded or unshaded Multiple dotted squares can link up as long as the total number of dots is equal to the total number of squares in the group. Hollow dots deduct from the total Dots of different colours must be separated
@bothieGMX

I have an idea on how diamonds can work. Spoiler Diamonds of different colors need to be matched up. i.e. in the yellow-blue diamond puzzle, one blue + one yellow or two blue + two yellow.
@bothieGMX
@bothieGMX Год назад
Solution to the 3 of diamonds card would then be: Spoiler... Make two 3x2 areas separated by a 3x1 unmarked area. This separates all same-color diamonds from each other and connects two threes each making a 6 area.
@bothieGMX
@bothieGMX Год назад
The blue-yellow puzzle (43:36) could have either solution: Spoiler a) Checkerboard b) **x* x*** ***x *x**

I'm having a lot of trouble with this game. It seems the witness did a better job in explaining what the rules were for a new puzzle type even though it only did so by example.
@dashalpha
@dashalpha Год назад
I don't like that some puzzles have multiple solutions (in ways that don't really matter or relate to the rule). It'd have been cleaner if for example cells in some solutions that can always be on or off no matter the solution you otherwise come up with are just removed as being part of the puzzle altogether. That just introduces yet another "rule" (or rather an exception to the rule) that you have to mentally keep track of when solving. Just started playing the other day and finished 3 worlds so far, it's ok. Sometimes solving them feels good, but often it isn't satisfying because it just doesn't seem as clean as I recall The Witness being. I'll muddle through some puzzles and only partly understand what the rule might be and nothing in the prior puzzles that guides you to a complete understanding of the rule as far as I can tell. IDK, maybe I'm just missing something. Early on, I mean at the very start when the game first opens up, way too many options and places to go w/ mostly non-tutorial puzzles visible and hard to tell which are tutorial ones that you just need to mess with til you solve and "then" reverse engineer the rule vs. ones that actually "teach" you a rule over a few puzzles.

1:08:00 It's much simpler than he's making it out to be. Divide the grid into 2x3 quadrants where each tetromino is placed and color the squares either white/black if the blocks are there or interred if they are not there. The middle should be able to be on or off.
