It has seemed more strange to me why it would be considered a political issue. Let people love who the would like as long as it’s not hurting anyone why does it need to be political?
@jimwheeler9840
@jimwheeler9840 2 месяца назад
@thestrongcollectors Because people who believe it is a sin want to use political power to illegalize or suppress it out of public view or, if possible, out of existence. Grew up with those kind of people. They think they are "saving" people, the country, the world, etc., not realizing that the way they approach it makes the world worse and only increases disdain people have for them and the faith/God they proclaim. Take that single element away, and a tremendous amount of it changes instantly.

@@thestrongcollectors For me, it's how over the past five years the "inclusive" flag has come to mean that those who wave it believe you're a bigot if you don't support males in women's sports, prisons, etc. Which actually does harm women, and that makes it a political issue.

It always bugs me while the superheroes comic always promotes the idea of inclusivity, equality and compassion, yet a rather unfornately large part of the toy collecting community on the other hand seems to disregard that. I am under on illusion that why corporations do these kind of stuff, but a gesture is better than nothing at all.
@thestrongcollectors

agreed. and i think a fair amount of the actual comic book readers miss the point of what they read too. But when you take that audience over the the toys you loose even more understanding from the source material.

Thank you for having a civil conversation about this. I am gay, and I assure you I have been my whole life. Growing up in the 80's was not easy, and companies would have never shown their support for the community. In fact, they did the opposite. It has made me happy that times changed, but it’s also becoming so commercial now that I’m not sure if it is genuine. Hasbro is such a big company that not only would they have LGBT customers, but employees as well, much like Disney. So it makes sense to show support. I applaud this, but it does beg the question if this is really about inclusivity or monetization. Whether or not they actually care about us remains to be seen. Support has to go beyond one post. What’s most upsetting though is the secondary hate we receive for something we didn't do. The gay community did't demand Hasbro post this, yet along with people being mad at the company, we have the usual horrible comments toward the community by default. It’s all getting completely out of hand.

For arguments about companies "shoving it down our throats," which this one applies to Marvel. Gay couples is one thing like Wiccan and Hulkinh. But turning a character like iceman that's been straight for 60 years and then have him be flamboyant while doing nothing but act sexual is going overboard. You can see the media support this with articles asking if he's a "bottom" or "top" . Which has nothing to do with the comic. It's ideological "journalists" with an obsession over identity politics. these are comics that marvel try to market to kids and adults. There are fans that like the change and others that don't. But I've seen one side get called bigots for not liking it. Hijacking characters to push an agenda isn't a good marketing strategy.
@thestrongcollectors
@thestrongcollectors 2 месяца назад
I totally agree that media making an article about top and bottom is probably too far. However I don’t see the same outrage when it comes to who she hulk takes home or nightwings love interests. I haven’t read everything since iceman has come out (I’m up to house or x) but so far everything has been good and still having a character like him come out later in life is still realistic to real life. If they had all xmen come then sure maybe that’s too far.

@Tyler_Lalonde- 2 месяца назад
@thestrongcollectors he didn't "come out" he was straight. They hijacked him to make him gay. The outrage isn't about who someone sleeps with. It's taking a character everyone knows isn't gay and making them gay for an agenda. That's like taking Wiccan, hulklying, Northstar etc and making them straight. It's not the characters personality/behavior etc. It's the writers agenda. Having more gay characters is fine but hijacking established ones to make them gay/bi/trans/non-binary/etc isn't good. For fans or the industry. The writers want to have a popular gay character without having to put any effort into the character. That's why you see it being done to popular characters.

I think we WAY overcomplicate this topic. If people would own their own discomfort and/or be mature enough to realize that not everyone sees things the way they do, then they could treat others with respect, in spite of differences that bother them. Instead, immature people and/or self-righteous a-holes feel compelled to act out against others. So "Pride" comes along to essentially counteract that a-hole-ism and try to provide something positive. And sometimes in the process of that and due to the word "pride" I suspect, the a-holes feel like the world is now trying to "make" people gay and promote it, etc. NONE of ANY of that would be happening if not for the words and actions of the a-holes who cannot exist with people or things they find uncomfortable. How about we all just take "pride" in our ability - if we choose it - to not be a-holes to one another...about anything?! Then there wouldn't even be a need for so many counterbalancing efforts around race, sexual preference, ethnicity, etc because we'd all be treating each other with mutual respect. Period.

Being open and inclusive is always a positive. I do think the way Hasbro goes about it is lazy though. They never seem to take existing or new lgbt characters and showcase them in relation to pride. It’s always just something that already exists like a droid or stormtrooper painted rainbow. Imagine a wave of figs based on lgbt characters or characters played by lgbt actors with pride branding rather than another rainbow stormtrooper… NECA recently did a pride version of Elvira in a rainbow dress and it made perfect sense cuz Cassandra Peterson is an outspoken lesbian and advocate. There was a direct connection to pride, the figure came with new pride focused accessories like flags and a portion of the proceeds were donated to the HRC. Rather than just painting Jason Voorhees rainbow, they took the opportunity to showcase an lgbt actress and support a cause she advocates for. Everybody wins.

Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining! Hasbro wants to make money, period. Full stop. If claiming to embrace the gay community helps their image as their profits go up, then that why they did it. @@thestrongcollectors it seems as if I didn’t explain my point as well as I thought I did. I have no problem with gay characters. I would love a marvel legends two pack of Hulkling and Wiccan or Mystique and Destiny. My point is that companies that during pride month change their logos to have a rainbow color scheme and post something about inclusion and then once the month is over never speak of the community again until the next year isn’t very inclusive. If the goal is to make the lgbt community feel included then I feel that we shouldn’t celebrate them. We should actually treat them the same way we should treat anyone else. Pride month shouldn’t be a big deal bc it seems like these companies are treating them as abnormal. Nobody should be treated as abnormal. My point is that everybody should be treated and celebrated the same. There should be no need for a pride month. People of the lgbt community along with everyone else should be treated equal. We should all be treated fairly and with respect, no matter what you believe in. Again, just my opinion. Everyone has their own. Sorry if I offended you or anybody.

for sure. in an ideal world everyone would be treated equally. I think pride month similar to black history month, is about more than just treat me equally now. I don't think either group is treated equally as other groups but they are more so now than in the past. I think pride month is also about celebrating that the lgbt community can breath a little easier now than they could 20 years ago while still striving for the even playing field. We're closer than we have been as a society than we ever have before but not at an ideal spot. again maybe Hasbro is just pandering but i kind of feel the same about RU-vidrs making videos of them doing a helping the homeless video. They're doing it for views but it's also putting more good out vs bad. Maybe it inspires someone else to help. I feel like i'm going off on a separate tangent there.

When it comes to children no sexual politlicly guided content should be alowed to come near them BIG NO, zero, zip, zilch, nada. its no the same when you are in a biology class and this is when you are old enough in high school. An interesting topic to say the least but Hasbro of all companies shouldn't be promoting that at all since it's as corporately hollow as possible. To keep it towards action figures, female Marvel Legends over the years have had their bodies toned down for "sensibility" reasons (to be fair we are seeing more ladies with proper curves and anatomy but for awhile they were all on that same, skinny buck) and in terms of rep it's pathetic, we just got a Moondragon figure last year and we don't even have a Phylla Vell/Martyr, in the comics those two were a lesbian couple and yet nothing in terms of action figures. It's definitely a virtue signal to garner some extra ESG, DEI money. Also it's a pretty weird thing to do considering some territories absolutely do not promote that stuff, like China. At the very least Hasbro aren't making product towards kids with Pride stuff in it, as far as I'm aware.

Sometimes, they are even prejudiced within their own communities, for not being "Jewish enough" or "Black enough" or being Hispanic and not speaking Spanish . True. I think that can be kind of hard to differentiate because the identity is an important part of WHO and what a person is. It is curious to me that Hasbro participates in this type of marketing but never commits to making toys to support the marketing. What's the point? At the end of the day, Halloween and Christmas are the only two holidays that are guaranteed to have merchandise made. There won't be a Freedom Pack of Marvel Legends for the 4th of July nor will their be any Couples in Love two packs for Valentines Day. There's plenty of room for the company to do special themed products but more than likely Hasbro will make a t-shirt and call it a day.

Hasbro will make a Pride post but only go as far as making shirts (granted I appreciate money going toward the Trevor Project). Not that I specifically want LGBT themed release for any Hasbro Product, but it just comes off as disingenuous? Cowardly even (though that may be too harsh)? Lego has a Pride set. Jazwares has Pride squishmallows. Mattel teamed with LGBTQ artists for Pride for a bunch of merch. The Hasbro shirts are just very low effort and feel like an afterthought. I don't know how many people are actually buying those shirts, and I can imagine the diminishing returns on low effort merch like that will eventually lead to not doing any Pride stuff at all. As for "fan" reaction, it continues to be disappointing to see people so vitriolic. Like y'all touched on, one would think geeks/nerds would be more understanding about ostracization and bullying. Thanks for covering this topic, hope the comments stay civil ✌🏾
@thestrongcollectors
@thestrongcollectors 2 месяца назад
There have been several other comments about interest in specific Pride related sets. I imagine Hasbro would then run the risk of those who got so upset about the shirts having an even stronger response, but maybe they need to just ignore that and do it anyways. Any ideas on Hasbro products that would be cool for a specific release?
@Infinity_WarTorn
@Infinity_WarTorn 2 месяца назад
@thestrongcollectors I think if Hasbro is going to go with something as simple as shirts, working with LGBTQ artists would be the way to go. It doesn't even have to be rainbow merch. Just cool art of Transformers, GI Joe characters, or Power Rangers, but the artists happen to be LGBTQ and they still do the donations to Tevor Project (or LGBTQ charity of Artists' choice). I just think doing a rainbow gradient on a brand logo or slapping a generic support phrase on a shirt just comes off as a lack of effort. At least if they worked with artists in that community, that would show some effort was made. I understand the risk of doing a Pride product run of like Lightning Collection Solar Orange and Purple rangers, or working with Disney/Marvel for Marvel Legends of Sera/Angela or Wiccan/Hulkling. But I feel if they are characters that haven't been made before (or at least recently) and have a following, that is still worth at least doing a to-order run of them or a limited run of them. Even just announcing said characters during Pride without Pride branding is fine. Like we kinda got this with the upcoming ML Destiny announced, if they had done the pack with Mystique that would have been a cool thing to announce during Pride.
