STOP Displaying Your Action Figures Like This

One big thing I learned over the years is you don’t have to have EVERY single figure you own displayed. Once my collection count got to 300+ half of them went into totes. The figures I forgot about over the years I sold and still selling

My Display is a Battle World between the Heroes and Villains of 10 Earth's. So I can get some unusual match-ups like Iron Man vs Lex Luthor, Spectre against Galactus, Godzilla fighting 2 Sentinels, etc. When I have everything out it takes up numerous book shelves and takes up over half a room.

When you mentioned Movie Gallery I nearly passed out. That was my favorite rental place as a kid and I was devastated when they went out of business. I went so often that the owner gave me Jak 2 and Jak 3 for free during their "everything must go" sale since he always saw my father rent them for me ritually.

I absolutely love your style of displaying, use of space and how you pose the action figures! I'm a minimalist with slight OCD-like tendencies. I only collect Retro X-Men action figures (one of each of the best) from the Stan Lee era in the 90's. I absolutely love to see each of my action figures. Not hidden or hoarded. A very inspiring video. You're one of my fave display artists so far I've seen on RU-vid! 👏👏👏

Some great tips, I’m trying to better organize my shelf and who I have on display. while not having any of them getting shuffled and hidden among the other characters.

Thanks you gave me some good ideas. I have very limited space and rotate displays of my biggest Legends collections -Spiderman, X-Men and Avengers (with some Mafex and Mezco in the mix), I was wondering what you recommend as an aid for stopping difficult to stand figures from falling over? (And sending the whole display crashing down!) I haven't enough surface space to give them all stands.

Awesome video! Amateur collector, you gave me some great and doable idea. I wouldn't have thought of combining figures and coffee table books in a display. Quick question, who is the character putting up the forcefield in the Onslaught battle scene? Liked and subscribed!

Really great informative video. This gives me great ideas on how to set up my eventual display. Especially determining which risers to utilize for my types of 150 or so figures. Also, definitely agree about some of the older display bases from various lines making killer compliments for more modern figs. I really love several from Diamond Select, like Thor's Castle Tower top, Black Widow's destroyed Ultron drone base, and Dr Doom's sweet throne room chair. I'd also recommend some really epic ones from Stan Winston Creatures "Realm of the Claw" series....they have one base for a Tiger warrior named Sabyr that is a dungeon floor with blood and bones and a very large poseable viper ready to attack the unlucky figure. It's awesome.

You should start a series in which people send you their display shelves so we get ideas on how to display our figures. I have being working very hard lately on setting my ultimate displays and i really dont have many friends that are into this hobby that i can show the display to

I have some NtB (nuts to butts) going on, but there is breathing room. That's mostly my GI Joe Classified area. Don't have battle scene for anyone but I do try to have some form of pose for the non Joes. Need to take a look at doing risers for some areas.

I say, collector your favorite character-- to reduce urge buying entire waves. Less is more giving room for your display to shine and appreciation. Also! Those in boxes you haven't displayed or forgot about, are better at funding the new stuff you want.

Aside from that, you should get the Spawn Redeemer (from McFarlane of course!) and put him behind these guys. Maybe even get Medieval Spawn!

I'm collecting mostly G. I. Joe Classified, Jada Street Fighter, and a few random figures. Like the very occasional high end figure. (SHF Dragon ball Z, figma Nintendo character or Guyver. And anything both really good and appealing to me.) I had just enough room for a 30" inch wide two shelf display case. After raising it up so both shelves would be visible, other objects around it prevented it from being more than two shelves. Each shelf is about 15" tall. I'm going to have to get creative to utilize the space above their heads. There are so many unique Joe and Cobra characters that I won't be able to display them all. So, I will fill them up shoulder to shoulder, nuts to butts, as you say. And whittle them down to unique characters. Then swap out here and there with the ones important to me. Eventually, I would like to get them all going with unique poses. But, poses take up more space then vanilla stance. *sigh!

good video - topic bro because I m in a small apartment, the issue rose up quickly, like you and others, at first, I displayed on shelves, hey, from 2017 to 2020, I only had a handful... punisher, Cap Am, iron man... Joes were hard to get and were very few but then, they started flowing in 21, and then Indy came out too, I had to find something getting to about 40 figs... I really like your system most, with the comics display, nice! but boxes + the figs... my apart could nt take much more of this... it s about 10' x 14', my whole place! I just pick from 3 lines ; Joes, legends, Indy and a few sw and wrestlers for civilians, [thank God] I don t care to display the civilians s boxes, I just keep them for value, most of them, I don t even know.... I just get them because they d look like someone you d cross on the sidewalk. now, I m at about 75 figs, including civilians but 2 of my dios can take close to 30 figs [bar - arena] and my 2 others, about 5 - 8 each so I m still good for now, but Destro and the iron grenadiers are coming... so I m planning a tower outpost with a world threat weapon [Destro] a 5th dio, mainly a stand for my fan at the window with real plants, I ll disguise it into a super weapon, but I keep it [the fan] functional maybe I ll add lights to make it look good. your video gave me ideas, like, I have no flying fig hanging, I think I ll get fishing wire to have iron man vs Ultron or something, 1 for iron man, one for Ultron, and one to tie them up into an air fight. I could also use one for monster Venom, using his webbing over the building. hey, if you guys could cover dios that d be cool! 1 post per week on your favourites perhaps? I think it d be a great combo, and not many reviewers do this, a + so now you know... good show bro

Thanks for your efforts on this one. Your topic of discussion is worthy for us collectors. There are some of us who desperately need assistance in displaying our figures. So the help you gave was exactly what I needed. Depth, height and width are so important when trying to make a display of posed figures. Sometimes it isn't until the collection is seen thru the lens of a camera do changes and modifications occur. I loved your scenes, and I could tell how much thought must have been put into it.

Don't wanna hit too hard, cos I do genuinely appreciate your knowledge on Marvel Legends... but man, when it comes to this particular subject (displaying) you have quite a lot to learn. This entire video proves why.

Most of my figures are all boxed up too many ,the only ones on display are loose or some i just picked up like in the last few months i like your dislays and nice figures some gems 💯

I am a “in the box” collector. Have been my whole collecting life. At times it does get a little hectic. But for the most part I display them by hanging them on the wall. The different sizes and shapes of the boxes becomes a Tetris game. But, if you have the room, this is the way to go.

I always rotate my collection, keep things fun and interesting! And yes, that messy Jackson Polock crowd placing drives me nuts as well!

I literally just have my Marvel Legends on pegs or stands (I collect mostly the women of Marvel and they really cannot stand on their own sometimes) separated into 90's X-Men team on cupcake stands and the other marvel legends characters are grouped in colors. I also accidentally discovered that my DVD bookshelf is the perfect size for the multiple displays.

Off topic: I draw. And I wonder what you guys think, if you draw, is the best action figure to model for me if I'm looking for muscular, mostly realistic, context. Like, I do not want to spend $100. Or else the answer to this question gets a lot easier. I'm saying, Marvel Legends, Diamond Select, GI Joe. Maybe SH Figuarts -- but still, that's pricey! I think, ML silver surfer. Or sh Figuarts Bruce Lee for higher end. What do you say?

I agree 100 percent. Less is more. These figures have great articulation the look best in dynamic poses

I try to limit myself to 9 or less figures on a shelf. I rotate who’s on display and if some figures never make it into rotation, they get sold.

For backgrounds on your shelves.,..or for toy photography check out diorama prints...I don't have much space and they come iin handy....Have to rotate but thats part of the fun....I can set up a dungeon scene for legions and then swap it out for a space corridor when the next cosmic wave hits......

One thing that I wanna add is that you gotta have them in some cool ass poses on your self, which imma show in my next room your in August.

I made a really dope temporary display that was really huge. I used 2 extreme sets and 1 ninja turtle playset. I got some really great pictures. However, I had the biggest brain fart 😅 ever and began spacing out on every other characters name. I had to go to work, and I didn't trust my cat not to attack some of the figures 😂. All in all, I liked the display. But next time, I'm going to have it a lot more organized. I got more army builders, too. I think 🤔 I'm done buying the hand, AIM, Hydra, and the Tracksuit Mafia figures. I also just got Bastion and a few Prime Sentinels for good measure.

Acrylic risers are your friend

I respect the rotation of setting up figures, I have 2 shelf's upstairs for everyone to see and a ton of malleable shelves in my basement.

My collection is being condenced and manuvered righr now. Had to have plumbing work done. Its a giant mess

6:20....I own over a 3,500 ft. House...and I have a secret ' Batcave' in the basement where I keep my collection. All on shelving. It's a 12×12 room and ALL shelving for mostly Marvel legends Monster figures, and Mattel&McFarlane DC figures( I have other stuff too Mezco 1:12, Maefex, 12" Superhero stuff, etc). And I have used up literally every ounce of space in there so I have no choice but to display them how you say NOT to display them. Simply ran out of room.

McFarlane glazers will literally jam them into rows like terracotta soldiers and call it a display case

As a collector what I find that is not ok is having the same figure but under different brands like Deadpool from marvel legends, mafex, shf, revoltech and neca why would you want to waste money on a figure you have that’s under a different brand

Im not an inbox collector ,i dont buy repaints or variants of one character . My toys are grouped according to my own taste ,not neccesarily what they actually represent except for my avengers ,fantastic four and xmen with those classic characters . Mostly my worlds represent countries like europe or america and a asian country with figs that represent heros or warriors that may have come from there . I have a outer space shelf ,a draculas castle where i put vampires and werewolves and a mcfarlane frankenstein with a motu 200x castle greyskull as the diorama . A barbarian shelf with an orc shelf . I have a humaniod animal shelf with stuff like mcfarlane megafig manbat ,killer croc and veteran william werewolf and many other shelves that follow a theme i chose for them . I use portable plastic shelves i can add to increase space and are cheap to buy when i need them . Everything in my collection is displayed nothing in storage and like you properly spaced so i can see all them . I have probably 6 times the toys you have mixed with different kinds of backgrounds like imaginext pieces ,custom cardboard dios ,chap mei pieces anything that can set the tone of a shelf .

I'm confused is this how you have your display setup or are you telling everybody as a resident professional how to set up their displays? Kind of feel like you should probably tell people what to collect and what not to collect as well if you're on the same path

Why buy a riser? Anyone can get some wood or styrofoam and build risers. That is silly. I personally am a opener. So I like so many characters that my collection has grown a bit. I do not have the biggest or the best collection. As a matter of fact it is a decent collection but no better. Now it is at this time in may 2024, stands at near 6000 open figures on 27 book or book type shelves. I build raisers myself, each shelf is between 20 to 28 inches wide and 15 inches tall and 12 inches deep. So to maximize my efficiency and usage, each shelf holds 60 to 75 figures on raisers . If I am not displaying my figures I may as well not have them. And I like so many characters that it takes two different areas to house snd display them all.

15:43 Galactus is problematic as a figure, isn't he. I mean, sometimes he's portrayed so big that a superhero could fly into his ear. Officially he's 26 feet tall from some canon sources. So what is he?!!😵‍💫 I say, his head should be as big as your tv. Whatever size tv you got.

Your style of displays look nice but you also have a small collection. Nothing wrong with figures standing on risers in “vanilla” poses when you have a lot of figures, especially when they are all the same character.
