Hasbro needs to drop the fake weathering and “retro” stickers and just reissue the complete Kenner line from the 70’s and 80’s. Maybe do some limited run variant figures like vinyl Jawas and double telescoping lightsaber figures. They’d get my money!

Great vid, I was also hugely impressed with how quickly these arrived, especially with the bank holiday weekend. Only opened R2 and 3PO so far but absolutely love them. A pristine R2 has been a lifelong goal, so happy that these were released and no hassle to aquire!

I got the set and was excited for this one because I had/have all of these originally but with sidenotes: my original R2 legs are broken and obi-wan cape ripped (because I was 4 yrs old), jawa and sandperson are good army builders, C-3po has floppy loose joints, and I sold my death squad trooper in a garage sale a long time ago. I was very happy to get all these again. I was also happy to get the retro endor Han because I never had that one.

I love the Retro Collection (Original Trilogy Only). I still have my Star Wars figures from the 70s and 80s and now we have these. I display these separately. I hope the line grows more and more and wished it would stay with Original Trilogy characters. Also, I would love for Hasbro to create additional 6 packs, like back in the 80s, but maybe have them themed. One pack could be based on Imperial Troops and another Rebel Troops and another pack all Droids. They could be army builder type packs and figures in those smaller packs (thinking again 80s six packs) could be bagged like back in the day.

Great timing Dean. I just received my set in the mail a couple days ago as well. Like you, I was completely shocked when I got the shipping notice that these shipped the same day as they were ordered. 😮 I definitely was not expecting that, although I had seen some of my friends in the UK had received these some time ago, so I knew at least that they had been produced already. But still, these days seeing in order that you place get shipped immediately on any new product is relatively shocking. I have a complete set of the original figures in excellent condition on display already, but have slowly been picking up more figures to fill in diorama style displays and to be featured with my playsets and vehicles that are also on display. I had been struggling to want to spend the money on additional excellent condition vintage figures, just for display, so these retro series figures were perfect. I have an original 12 display stand that I wanted to outfit with figures, so I picked up one package of both of the offerings that Hasbro had, making the original 12 figures. These will be fantastic on display and I won't have to have broken the bank to get another set of the original 12. Again, like you, the biggest draw for me for this package when I originally saw it was the VAC metalized R2D2 and C3PO figures. Having heard the rumors that Hasbro couldn't vac mentalize due to eco reasons, I was shocked to see these. I'm glad that that turned out to be just a rumor and not truth. It was a big draw for me when this set was announced, even though at the time I was going to pass. It made it easier to pick them up later on when they became available. Thanks also for comparing your new R2 to the Stan Solo version. I passed on the R2 from his line, but did pick up the C-3PO with the silver leg. Excellent as always. I love that Hasbro is putting out these retro figures from the original line. Like we've discussed before, it is a fantastic way for new and old collectors both to pick up inexpensive versions of the originals that, on display, look almost identical, but are easily distinguished when viewed up close, so they can't be passed off as the originals. I would love if Hasbro goes on to complete the entire line of original figures. Not only would it help me to fill my display cabinets with beautiful figures, but also allows everyone to get into collecting vintage style Star Wars on a budget. Another fantastic video! ❤

Thanks for the review. I won't be purchasing any of them, but I might pick them up for my son for Christmas. I'm not one that I have to have a perfect example for display.... Simply because I don't have room to hardly display anything. That said, I'll save my money for the retro book of Boba Fett figures. I really like the fact that Hasbro is going with that style for the newer series.

I really look forward to your reviews on these as you go into such depth. I just received mine as well. These are really fantastic. We no have all of the original 12 which is great. I hope they continue to focus on the original line and give them all to us. So far we have quite a few!

I find it laughable the anti retro crowd are calling the Hasbro retro collection "fake'....well let me ask them who BOUGHT OUT and OWNS KENNER?......Thats RIGHT ...HASBRO does and therefore they are technically KENNER figures

I heard that the retro C-3PO is a removable limbs version.Not sure if that is true or not.

Great review Dean! I ordered two sets to have a set both carded and loose. Always wish Hasbro would expand the line and make vehicles and vinyl cases for these figures. They could also release a 6 pack of unproduced OT Kenner figures too. We can hope.

Nice comparison shots. These new figures arent for me but they do look pretty good. I wonder if the softer sculpts was a choice or whether it is down to the different plastic used. Thanks for the video!

Great review video, as always, Dean. Those droids do look nice and the Obi Wan isn’t too bad either, though his lightsaber arm looked a little bent to me. I hope that Hasbro decide to do individual releases of these figures in the future.

I was looking forward to this set but due to finances and the fact that I have multiples of these figures between R2-D2s where I cleaned up and replaced the stickers and having a few Stan Solo figures as well I canceled. I may eventually buy these because I want to support the line and encourage Hasbro to make more of these.

My set is at the post office. Very excited for this one. Really hope they keep this line up. We've already had the bounty hunters from Empire, so maybe some more figures from RotJ. Would really love a Bib Fortuna, Ackbar, Rancor Trainer, etc..

The retro collection figures are getting much better… I got the reissue first 6pk and the cards were much better quality, with smaller blisters and better placement of instructions. Chuffed you got to be one of, if not the first to review this set on RU-vid Dean… you give honest reviews, this is why I enjoy your videos👍 Gutted that these are still sold out on HASBRO Pulse in the UK, as I really want a set….. in the meantime I’ll enjoy watching re-runs of yours😀 Take care mate👍👍👊

Excellent side by side review with the originals and the Hasbro Retro Collection. These look great, and I was glad to see them being reissued with plastic clear windows on cards instead of inside enclosed Hasbro Boxes. A really great selection of characters here overall. Thanks! I hope more are created in the years ahead. But on thicker cardboard. I guess the lighter cardboard lowers the price a little for Hasbro.

The scalpers have already been breaking up the sets and selling the figures separately for inflated prices. The c**ts. Glad to see this new set has finally arrived for some. I’ve been waiting forever for this. Hope the rest of the original STAR WARS lines are completed. Would like to own mint examples of the “first 21”. The droids are beautiful - nice and shiny. There’s hardly a difference between the S.S.C and Hasbro versions - except for the blue paint on the legs. Would like to see an EMPIRE boxed set of Stormtrooper variants (Snowtrooper / AT-AT Driver and TIE-Fighter Pilot. That’d be really nice! Great video!

I'm an OT RETRO FAN. Mine came delivered within 2 days free postage.ive collected TVC and black series and sold the collections because they didn't give me the nostalgia l was looking for. Even though l have a full run of mint kenner figures, l still enjoy collecting these RETRO figures as they give me the collecting feelings I've been looking for

Did you manage to get the Return of the Jedi multipack pre-ordered?, it sold out in about 1.25 days on the UK Pulse site, no idea if they will offer a second oppertunity for people to get it?.

They look good, though I'm going to wait until the Palitoy retro collection is released before making any purchases.

I would like Hasbro to release the rest of the vintage SW fig line as well some more first time figs like they started in the beginning Moff Tarkin and Snowspeeder Luke.

Really nice set of figures Dean. Why can't they just use some sort of design software packaging, to at least clean or tidy up the edges of the cardbacks.

I hate Hasbro as a company but sometimes they do something nice worth my money. They look beautiful!

Very nice Dean, the sculpt of these figures really is improved. They're very much similar to the originals albeit with some subtle differences.

Great review! I wish Hasbro would STOP doing the false battered/beat-up/damaged packaging on these vintage SW figure card backs and boxes. They did NOT look like this when we bought them off the rack in the 1970s and 1980s. Also, it would have been a "special bonus" if Hasbro would have released the more rare Jawa with vinyl cape replica, rather than the cloth cape.

Looks like the older ones had better detail and quality than the newer ones.

If I had money I would buy the first assortment and this one, the first assortment is easy to come by. It's this one that's hard to find, since it contains the other half of kenner characters hasbro didn't do in 2019. Speaking of that; hasbro only did one wave of empire and ever since 2020 they never been re released. I got lucky before my birthday a week ago and found Luke and Boba from that wave. In a collectible store and record store. I also scored a rare vac metal modern saga collection r2 sensorscope and gammorian guard and skiff guard from potf 2. And before that I got the retro collection jedi Luke, and I also got the vintage collection baroda skiff guard 40th Anniversary. I'm happy with my gifts and I'm slowly building as I go. I got a lot of these guys for the past 5 to 6 yrs since the sequels after. I like and prefer the original Boba fett and Luke bespin and jedi figures than the modern ones they have today. And the new retro Darth Vader from kenobi assortment. Better than the old one a much better update than the original version. What bothered me about the celebrate the saga rebellion alliance figure pack; hasbro tossed in bespin han, hoth Leia, an older r2 and Chewbacca and included what should've been empire Luke but they put jedi Luke instead of bespin Luke. It didn't make sense to me jedi Luke is in that pack but empire Luke isn't. Hasbro makes strange choices for re release 5poa figures. I'm happy I got the original bespin Luke in kenner formula from 1980 straight from that retro collection 2020 empire line. I love it. Same with my Boba better version than the modern crap they put out, but I still got my forcelink han bespin from the crappy version of Boba fett in that two pack which was one of my Christmas presents from yrs ago. The vintage kenner Boba and Luke are the best.

Great video! I love this set and I’m pretty impressed by Hasbro, the two droids are perfect IMO. BTW a peroxide bath ought to bring the grey of your figure to its original colour.

The thin cards are appalling, especially when compared to the cards used for the retro prototype range… there is a lack of consistency with regards to the quality of materials used. But hey…. We’re still buying Star Wars toys that look the same as the ones we started buying in ‘78. Nothing will ever beat seeing rack upon rack of new figures, floor to ceiling (or so it seemed), in an age where the word “spoilers” was used only for cars, and had no meaning to us kids. You either knew who the new mystery figure was, or found out in the Playground. I collect the retro, not because I hammer for the nostalgia, the buzz and the fuzzy feeling of familiarity. I get that from just looking at all my childhood originals. I simply collect them because they work (for me at least). Grumbles aside about cards, stupid red stickers and uninspiring card backs, I enjoy them in the same curious manner in which I enjoyed the Gentle Giant Jumbo series. It’s technically too late for them to do anything about the cards or the sticker, they’ve set a precedent over several waves now. It is what it is. I like them for what they are, and as long as they keep putting out good facsimiles of the originals and I’m happy. They add “texture” and context to the toy room.

Nice review. All my Kenner originals look like bantha fodder as they were very well played with but to me it would seem inauthentic to replace them with the retro collection. For me it's the fact that they were my childhood toys which makes them special rather than how pristine they look. I don't think it would even be the same if I replaced them with better looking versions from the 80s. Maybe I'd have to have two separate collections but TVC is my thing now and I don't have the space or money (or desire) to start a retro collection. But that's just me...

I take it these will effect the buyers market for the retro figures? Why track down the older ones at crazy prices when these are pretty much exact copy’s at a decent price and brand new without any aging or wear on them..

Figures are fantastic, but I haven’t figured why Hasbro is afraid to improve upon the packaging for the MOC collector, it’s terrible. Don’t know if I’ll pull the trigger on these.

Quite a few noticeable differences , weapons are a different color and the DSC is a lighter shade of grey

Just saw another review. While Hasbro doesn’t advertise it, it would seem the C-3PO’s limbs and head are attached with pegs and are removable.

The C-3PO has fully removable limbs including the head. Not exactly like the original figure, as the removeable limbs version didn't premiere until 1982 and it didn't have a removable head.

These retro figures are fine for what they are. But personally I still think the original figure (even if slightly yellowed) looks much nicer/sharper on display. These modern versions lack a lot of the detail of their original counterparts and do feel a lot cheaper in terms of quality/materials. What they do have going for them is the mintyness! LOL Especially white figures like stormtrooper and Princess Leia. I do have a few of the SW and ESB retro figures, but I don't mix them in with my display of orignal kenner figs. Yet again, Hasbro frustrates collectors with both price and availability of these figures. Why can't they make them more readily available instead of just through pulse!!!?

And as usual Hasbro UK just keeps delaying the release, it's been months and months now... even though Hasbro US have had them in stock the whole time, as does Disney Store US (which doesn't ship to the UK), as do physical Disney stores in the US. But over here... nothing.

Such a shame they need to put that fake damage on the edges,just totally ruins the card.
