Picked up the Takara Fort Max in Japan last week, as far as I know now it's the only one in New Zealand. Had to completely rearrange my suitcase around it to get it back without paying for a second checked bag on the plane (upon realising it was way too big for carry on) - totally worth it :)
Fun fact, in the Titans Return cartoon by Machinima, when Optimus Prime and Fortress Maximus attacked Megatronus Prime, Fortress Maximus used a giant energy sword that looks very similar to the "Master Sword" that the Takara version comes with.
Thanks for the great review! I really like the Takara version much better. The face looks much bigger and more in proportion to the figure is one of the selling points for me. It's surprising to hear you say you liked Hasbro's better but that just shows that aesthetics is mostly subjective.
one thing better that the takara version has it plays the headmasters theme song the hasbro one doesnt, because i think hasbro might have lost the rights to the orginal g1 theme song
master5 gaming and other stuff how on earth could Hasbro lose the rights to their own song? Also, Hasbro Fort Max can play a little bit of the G1 theme if you hold his head down for about 5 seconds.
If Takara sells the mastersword on its own then hopefully that means they will sell a gift set of all the japanese heads. I really want that Cerebros head from Takara's..
Actually, for me, I have his arms pointing straight up in his battle station/space cruiser mode. That way I can make use of the ramps on his arms (which of course are just the ramps from the legs of Generations Metroplex), otherwise they just go to waste as they have two sides to them. Plus it makes it feel a little more like G1's 'base' mode that way.
this comparison makes me glad I dropped the coin on the Comicon Fort Max from the hasbro shop. I think it has the best of both and some really sharp additional paint apps.
Also, you can't split the legs on the takara in half to make the more accurate, yet unofficial alternate base mode because takara decided to glue them. Why, I don't know.
Late to this party but I have the SDCC version. Loved watching this vid as I never knew what actual differences. The SDCC is basically I mix of both. So I think I’m glad for the one I chose. Although I would’ve preferred cerebros face over fortress. Or just packed in both. Great vid my friend. All the best.
Fortress: The School of the undefeated of the East! Cerebros: The winds of the King! Fortress: Zenshin! Cerebros: Keiretsu! Both: Tenpa kyoran! Both: LOOK! The east is Burning Red!!!
He's most likely talking about the cartoons. Fortress was the name of the tiny Master Cybertronian. Cerebros was only the name for the toys of the Japanese and RID 2001 little robot.
great review.just got the hasbro one and first titan class figure and loving it.the only complain is he doesn't have his gun.i dont want to take his knee guns off.he needs his own and i was the hasbro version did like the takara and added a small clip from the opening theme.that is the one thing i love over the hasbro one besides the massive beautiful master sword
as someone who owns the anime/cartoon series the one without the face guard if gen 1 modeled.. the japanese variant is more or kannon and relates to a later series model given to different animation studios.. the later version is anime variant the older of the 2 is based from gen 2 transformers
actually the US version of cerebros *does* have a weapon. the little turret that the head master sits in in city mode can be taken out and used as a weapon for cerebros.
I have Metroplex, and just recently got Trypticon. I skipped on Fort Max...but now, I want one. Think I'll go with the Hasbro version. Although I really like the paint scheme of Takara...gotta admit there is something to the Hasbro version I like more. Only thing I'd like to switch is the leg cannons on his legs. I like the simple red guns compared to big blocks of red on his legs.
I was in dilemma about which i should get then when i heard the japanese voices and the headmaster theme which was basically my childhood show, i instantly wanted to get the takara version
Was there any particular reason why you cut off the Takara Fort Max's sounds off? Like, you would move to the next sound a good second or so before it finished, which cut off whatever he was saying.
Ok well i like takara version better only thing i would take from hasbro would be the head. But what i noriced that BOTH figures are lacking are the huge side canon's the G1 version used have which i loved back in the day and if i remember right didn't it also come with a little roller/tankish figure?
@@pixelprime5908 wow after 4 years and yet you still active??? That is insane man!!!! And also if takara is going to make a masterpiece master sword transformer they better not blew up
Does anyone else have the Takara version with a faulty sound chip? On mine, whenever the cartoon theme plays, it stops at random points and then all other clips do that too...!
I can actually see what they were going for in the city mode. It seems like it was supposed to be like you see a huge freaking city in the distance. I can't really explain it but I do see what they were trying to do.
so hasbro figures are made in Taiwan for the US and Takara figures are made in? japan? does Takara have an overall better quality? where do the figures originate? Hasbro or Takara? can someone explain how it works? thanks
...few things you missed because of the short video span, but one that actually needs correcting is the *sword being sold separately * by takara, this is false. Currently there are 3 ways to get a sword, you either buy the SDCC version (which is basically a hasbro repaint of the takara fort max, as in you get the "fortress" titan master over cerebros but is generally close to the hasbro version apart from the chest), you get the takara fort max, or you buy the hasbro fort max from selected toys R us in asia (well hong kong basically) and you get a limited edition sword with it, and out of the 3 swords this is the better one (SDCC has gold stickers and a black handle, we've seen takara's, and if you google "hasbro asia fort max sword" you see how much nicer that is). YOU CAN actually buy that later sword from certain sellers on ebay but I presume they either returned their fort max to capitalize on profits for the sword or are stolen because their prices are scalper tier (I'm sure I saw one for $80 at one point but ebay only has the 3rd party options as of now). BTW, for the third party options, you got the nice diecast one from perfect effect (won't come cheap) who are also making a gun, and another third party one has basically made the box art gun from hasbro fort max and...basically made a KO of the official sword, hopefully that'll be the cheapest option, I wish I gotten that one over the SDCC fort max, not worth the extra cost since it has the hasbro version's qc issues :c
I thought in Japan "Fortress" was the name of the Headmaster himself? His larger Transector bodies are just lifeless. "Cerebros" I'm sure was the G1 name for the body Spikes headmaster connected to before becoming Fort Max's head. I could be wrong though.
I could never get my head round that spike was cerebros' head and in turn was maximus' head so how come Scorponok only had zarak as a head wouldn't that make the Scorponoks look like a pea on a drum 🤔🤔🤔
my favorite is black not grey black maximas because when you see in muvie incybertron in 1984 fortress maximas is the reallhead that color is black not grey
I already have G1 Fortmax. So if I ever get a TR Fortmax, it will be the Hasbro version simply because it will be different enough to be worth it. It also look better IMO.
Jetfire48 However, you will pay an arm and a leg for that extra stuff. The Takara is way more expensive from the start and count a hefty shipping and custom fees. Basically, it come down to personal preferences and how your wallet can take it. As a G1 Fortmax and Gen Metroplex owner, I'll wait for the Hasbro to be on mad clearance. And if I miss it, oh well.
to bad they do not sell Cerebros (US) separate, I have the Generation 1 Fortress and not really looking for the whole thing but the US Cerebros would be cool to own (since he is more cartoon looking, with the head)
