Personally, I think the fan mode kind of saves it. You can open up the legs, and turn them into towers, both of which can hold a voyager. It also makes the base look more interesting.
i agree...I actually only transform him into the fanmodes; plus spend the extra money and get the repro labels from toyhax; they really make the figure "pop"
The main reason they are doing the reissue is because they needed to use the trademark. If they don’t use a trademark before it expires they will get a big fine from the trademark office. Edit: trademarks are often registered by companies long before the product that will use it is manufactured. A company is required to use the trademark they register at least once before letting it expire. Once a trademark expires they can either choose to register it again or let it go.
@@ShadowPrime69 by the time they will have to use it again it will be the line after legacy. If I remember correctly trademarks last 4-6 years. (Edit: that joke is getting old)
@@justaustinnielsen I think that's what weik meant. Hasbro maintained the trademark through a reissue rather than giving us a new Fortress Maximus with modern engineering. TR Fort Max was a retool of Thrilling 30 Metroplex. The bones of this Fort Max are nearly ten years old. We really needed an engineering update, but now we'll have to wait a minimum of four years for the trademark to renew again.
I sold Metroplex, Fort Max, Grand Max & Scorponok because I was & still am going through rough times. And now with the $200 price tag or even higher on the aftermarket, I will probably never be able to buy them back. $200 is just too damn high. Last year I was able to snag Black Zarak for $99 when BBTS had a 1-day sale. $99 is a good price for a Titan class. $199 sucks! The $700 that eBay sellers want is just plain fuckin lunacy!
I've been using Cog as a double barreled blaster for him; only complaint is the difficulty of getting Cerebros properly connected as a command tower in base/carrier mode. Head mode does require a little more pressure to click in securely. [Also I've found opening the leg panels slightly helps get the feet to lock into place.]
Yeah, I still have trouble getting Cerebros to fit into the command tower, too. Used to have problem getting him to stay on as Fort Max's head, until I realised I just needed to push it down a LITTLE bit more to get the proper click.
I recall upgrade kits were made for the hips and knees when it first came out which gave the figure stronger ratchets, not surprised that those upgrade kits will be reissued as well
They already are since last week. In fact all titans kits are available now which means... the China factories already know all they gonna be re-released
The sword is 100% a Takara only thing because it was also a car robots thing because God Fire Convoy and Brave Max used it, but also its been done a lot with 3rd party and 3D printers so I would recommend tracking them down.
Those double barreled leg cannons can come off and have handles to be held in the hands. I know it changes the look of the figure, but it *IS* a feature you didn't cover, and makes him look more dynamic when posing the robot mode.
I still wish he'd also included his two enormous hand-held blasters from the original version. There's a third-party giant hand-cannon, but as far as I know, nobody's made his stubby double-barrelled blaster.
What's maddening is DNA finally reissued their upgrade kits, but they cost almost as much as the figure himself. I think I agree with some of the comments on DK-04. It really could have/should have been a full lower leg replacement given that they replaced Scorpinock's entire lower legs because he was just a bit shorter than fort max, but only threw slippers on for Fort Max. A few things to note that you missed though are that the leg cannons are removeable and have flip out handles to be used as guns, the side turrent also is able to detach to be a "shuttle", and the chest conparment opens into a "command center" and contains a gun Cerebros can use
I want the sounds taken out, its ratchet joints improved, and for them to give it ankle joints. That being said, I missed out on him last time but I might cancel my preorder after watching this.
So far Hasbro has reissued Devastator and now Fortress Maximus. It makes me wonder if theres potential for Trypticon or Predaking to be next since it feels like hasbro is wanting to give people second chances at the prime wars titans
I think the classic quality and the joint sturdiness or quality needs to one reason why I didn't care much for the John Warden era of Transformers. There's a lot of cost cutting and hollowness. I think If fortress Maximus were to be completely remained from the ground up today, he would be the quality that we've seen with scorponok and legacy metroplex.
I am so happy to hear this has a reissue now since he was my first Titan and I've been missing him ever since my house burnt. But I probably won't have the money to be able to get him.
Whats sad is they could have given him the cooler base mode from g1 by just making his center tower taller and giving him a few more hinges in his knees.
I bought the Takara version because it played music from the series plus other sounds and had the sword while looking like the figure from the Headmaster series. Great review.
Another option if you need a Fortress Maximus is the Gum Kabaya ver. To get the full figure you need to get all 3 packs. To which when completed ends being the size of a modern Voyager. But if you know where to look, I'll cost a faction of the Titan price. Plus it comes with with the sword.
I have this figure a few years now, and Fort Max Titan Class is one of my favourite figures. I added Toyhax stickers and upgraded it to give him new hands, waist cannons and COG finishes it off. Compared to Metroplex, FM looks awesome.
It's worth it if you missed out first time around and were reluctant to shell out the high second hand prices. Got mine on preorder this morning and I can't wait to set him up next to my G1 that I got in '87! Sure, he isn't as stout as the G1 but I'm not going to be playing with him (much). His sole purpose it to tower over everyone else in the display. (When I show pictures of my G1 collection I have the Minibots in front, standard Autobots in next, Metroplex, Jetfire, Blaster and Ultra Magnus in the fifth row with Fort Max at the back. Some people who don't know ask how I hide my risers which I say there are none. The five figures in the back really are that much taller than the others!)
Cool video! Thank you! I have the TR Fort Max, and he's . . . just about acceptable, as-is. Totally with you on the annoying floppiness of his joints. I do get why completists and fans of huge robot toys and people who never had the original would want this for their collection, though, even with all its compromises. Having said that, I also have a bunch of third-party upgrade kits on mine which drastically improve this figure. Now, if only DNA Designs would make a kit that contains his double-barrelled blaster, some new arm-ramps & shoulder garages, a couple of guns for Cerebros & Cog, the red scanning station, and the Master Sword. That'd be amazing. HINT, HINT, DNA Designs! Another thing I did to modify my Titans was swap the knee-joints between Metroplex and Fort Max. Just looked weird for Metroplex to have silver thighs and white knees, and Fort Max having white thighs and grey knees. Looks considerably better that way, I think. Just gotta get around to chroming up Metroplex's knees to match his thighs, at some point . . . .
So I bought a very used one a few years back and I think he is easily the worst titan I have (I have them all now). He is very wobbly and creaky. I did still preorder a new one though in hopes that my used copy was just terrible. Hopefully the DNA kits get fully reissued at standard prices.
He IS the worst Titan because he is just a crappy Metroplex retool. And Metroplex wasn't very good to begin with. All of the Titans got their own original mold except for Fort Max. Excluding the straight repaints of course.
I wonder if the re-issue will have better joints, or if they literally just threw the dies in and recast it. I missed out on this the first time around. I went into clearance stores for $50 at one point but I couldn't find one. I did get Trypitcon for $50 at a clearance store. I didn't get either Sorponock/B Zarak (I wouldn't get them both. Size, space and money.) Thanks for revisiting this figure. Love the cringe shorts too.
fortress maximus is 🔥. i would say omega and scorponok are generally much better in overall condition, but hes top tier. im out here waiting for metroplex like i want that so bad
I hopped on the pre-order, not because he's a good figure. But because I had excepted that as someone who would like to have all the titans minus Zarak because I already have Scorpinok I would just probably never get him because of the aftermarket price and if I'm gonna pay that much I would much rather snag a generations metroplex aka my Holly Grail figure. So, seeing the pre-order show up made me really happy.
I have the Takara version. To be fair, I think the one shown in this video is a used one where the leg joints are more loose. While it is true that Fortress Maximus's original ratchet in the legs are few, there is a third party upgrade that can be installed to make it much better. In terms of the head and sound, it seems like something is wrong with the one in the video. The one I have at home functions well. I personally prefer the looks on Fortress Max than some of the new ones like Nemesis.
I've definitely been able to finangle better city modes by opening the legs and doing funky stuff with them, but overall yeah I have to agree this was the weakest Titan, especially in altmode(s). But I have the Takara version, and it still looks GREAT as the centerpiece of my MP display fighting Scorponok. I'm glad this is being reissued because hopefully DNA will reissue their upgrade kit too, and I can get the improved hands and the hip guns I should have gotten in the first place and passed on. (I also equipped it with the old Perfect Effect Fort Max gun... looks GREAT with the stock folded out)
I can't remember exactly which upgrade sets I got, but I got a set of super-poseable hands with flip-out twin blasters in them for Fort Max, and I had to file down the hand-peg on the third-party giant cannon, so he could hold it. But then, the giant hand-cannon's peg for attaching it to the control tower in space-cruiser mode was too loose. I don't mind having to do a little tweaking to get stuff to work, but I think it's only fair to warn other that there might be some compatibility issues with the various kits that might need addressing.
I have the San Diego Comicon SDCC 2016 version with sword and wear paint already, but I am still getting this reissue. However I would have loved a Grand Maximus reissue.
So I got him, but I really don't think he's the worst Titan. That award goes to the ARK, where the figure is a massive calamity to me. But that's a discussion for another time. I'm not saying that Fort Max is the best, but it's definitely a better option. The thing that gets me is how he doesn't have his gun or Cogg and Sprocket, and you had to buy that figure separately. I did buy the DNA upgrade kits for his hands and feet for Fort Max and new feet and wrist fillers for Cerebros. And for his weapons, I went with the Professor Heisenberg weapons upgrade kit. I also got 3-D printed ramp extenders, which help hide the hands while folding away in robot mode. With everything combined, it makes the figure better, but it does cost some money to make those improvements. At that point, it's a matter if you really want to invest the money to upgrade the figure, and if not, are you okay spending the money for a base mode?
That's a big boy. Remember when this first came out, and didn't want it then and definitely don't want it now. Perfect though for anybody who missed out on the original release or I guess doesn't have a Fort Max in there collection. Personally I'd sooner get the Legacy metroplex as it's a completely new mold, and much improved over the original Cybertron release. Wonder if the reissue will have the electronics or if Hasbro will do entirely away with them.
I wonder if it sold out because Scorponok is *so good* and people want the pair? That's why I've gotta have him and Nemesis, to pair up with my Scorpy and The Ark (Fridays at 7!)
I think my Ark and Cybertron Metroplex along with the Nemesis when I get her are all going to look great together the two Spaceship Titans in Robot mode and Ship mode flanking my Cybertron Metroplex and I don't find anything wrong with his alt mode either but the Nemesis is definitely the best of the three of them
i have not pre ordered mine yet. not sure if i really want it and i am not super into transformers anymore. so, it's still up in the air at this point.
I still want the Legends version cause this is the era where the Japanese releases has extra stuff. But I do own the G1 Reissue so it's not really on top of my list EVER. The G1 reissue is arguably better minus the articulation lol. The city mode is a better city mode and the robot mode is a million times more imposing.
I don’t think I’ve ever been triggered by the lack of ratchet sounds on a giant figure’s leg before. Until now. That alone makes me not want the figure.
One question I ask myself when deciding whether to buy a figure, is do I already have a better version of that character. I passed on this one because I already had the Encore Fort Max. The only thing the new one does better is stand there. And the Cerebros is better.
I guess they can do a Gen Selects GRAND Max but thats just a Hasbo domestic version. Who know if it even sells the Titan Gen Selects are now deep discounted and just sit
I got this titan thrifting sub 100 bought him a gun and a 3d printed sword and with that still don't have 200 in him....however if you buy one off ebay it's expensive, the metroplex mold was the first and not the best mold for titans I'd love if they would make a new one more accurate to fortmax altmode. And I'd be in if this was a takara version. As it is though it gives ppl a chance to get a fort max without spending 500 bucks off ebay. If it goes on clearance maybe I'll grab one for a grandmax custom. 😂
I remember buying a TR Fortmax at Toys R Us on clearance at 100$CAN plus taxes. Total, 115$CAN. I wasn't sure if he was worth "that much money" when I bought it but it wasn't long for me that I felt he wasn't worth it at all. Especially because it was just a lazy Metroplex repaint, not holding a candle to the G1 original. Just barely a year later, I sold it at my local geek store for around 140$CAN of store credit. No regrets. And now, TR Fortmax get a surprise run, and even at 300$CAN / 200$US, it sell like hot cakes. Back in the day, it was 100$ cheaper at full price yet they had a hard time selling the damn thing until they had to put it on clearance. What happened?
I swear after Scorponok they swore their Titan ratchets would NEVER BE LOOSE AGAIN hence why you need a monkey wrench to move the legs on Metroplex and The Ark.
Hey is it worth selling mine now, I was just about to get the upgrade kit and then sell mine but now it’s been reissued so I’m not sure, can someone please help me
Hasbro makes it so the first preorder sells out to build up the hype seen it happen so many times on figures that linger in stores like Tyrpicon. IT's done to hype it up nothing more nothing less. Inflation calculators don't mean squat how many people got a payraise since 2016 some but not all has min wage gone up since 2016, no inflation means you got less to spend without actual pay to match and overcome the inflation.
So 300 Canadian like him because hes from my childhood and a city bot is missing a lot of blaster wouldnt mind if he still had the side cannons nope paint . Hes to much to pay that metroplex coming down in price so still hope on a titan great review thanks for not over hyping him ok good but out dated
If ya live in the U.S then yes it's definitely worth it although I would rather I have them scrap the voice and noise gimmick and give it stronger ratchet joints
