Tenor Choir Part Practice: "Dixit Maria", Hans Leo Hassler (1564 -- 1612 Hassler is probably best known to English choral singers for the motet "Dixit Maria ad Gabriel" . The setting is Mary's reply to the Angel's announcement that she is to be the Mother of God. Dixit Maria was composed in a Renaissance style employing a technique known as "point of imitation". The tenors begin, followed by the altos four notes lower, then by the sopranos eight notes higher, and finally by the basses who sing exactly what the tenors sang. Music is in Key of "G".
