Hatching Angel Fish Eggs without the parents

This is the first time I have tried this. The parents have been spawning every 10 to 12 days but as soon as the lights are turned off at bed time they eat all their eggs. This time I got them to lay their eggs on a plastic tube and put the tube and eggs in a nursery tank to try to get the eggs hatched safely. This video shows what happened.

A pleasure to watch, goes to show everything doesn't have to go perfectly for success to happen. No follow-up video though, what happened with them after this? Cheers

I'm using a pvc pipe too. Earlier the eggs were laid on the internal filter. I put the pipe into another tank supported by an old heater clamp to prevent the pipe from slipping.

Using a nylon for egg is a great idea I had never heard before. Kudos on your success. Look forward to seeing your progress. Nice vid.

Ever consider adding a shrimp or 2, and Indian almond leaf? The leaf should help with the water quality as well as provide early food. The shrimp would do the clean up of eggs that do go bad.

Are you sure on that? There's horror stories of some types of shrimp literally ripping wrigglers from eggs. I am interested.

@@-8_8- My amanos literally ate my cardinal tetras in front of my eyes. They would chase nd catch them. Would definitely not recommend them for the newborns.

Did you get any adult fish out of this batch, and if so, how many survived? I am raising my first batch of angelfish fry from eggs...wasn't expecting any of this, but after I found them, didn't want them to get eaten. I am on about day 8, and have hundreds free swimming currently.

Unfortunately they all died but I have a neighbour that has successfully raised a clutch of angels that were born some 5 months ago.

Did your angels lay in a line like that before? My clusters are more circular. I made a plastic plate to hang inside the tank.

best bet is to make friends with a mom and pop pet store - see if they will take your babies (usually when they are 2 to 3 months old - about dime to nickel size) - some will offer cash some you can take in trade (fish food - plants - etc). you decide who you take in and who you keep

Why try to hatch the babies if you can’t properly care for all of them?
@susankirkland5356

@@tiatokkesdal1745 So they do not get eaten. You can always sell them to people who want them. Why do we do anything? To see if we can be successful. I plan on keeping a few if they survive, then run an ad in various places to see if people want them. I can call a petstore to see if they want them, or donate them to my kids school.

how u know that The male fintilized The egg before u remove them

Easy answer to that question - I watched the male fertilizing the eggs as the hen fish laid them!
