*****Review is unsponsored. I use my own resources to purchase what are needed.😊 But for those who are asking where to buy the mesh for harvesting the brine shrimps, here are my affiliate links:
#ads #commissionsearned
📌 amzn.to/3ItZHcM - Baby Brine Shrimp Seive (80 and 200 mesh)
📌 amzn.to/3GzVJ0t - Soda Bottle Dispenser (used for artemia harvesting)
📌 amzn.to/3ixX1RF - Baby Brine Shrimp Cysts/Eggs

I’ve recently started a new hobby: fish-keeping. When I was younger, my Dad had the same hobby and though I loved watching the fish in our aquariums, I never really had the passion for it. Now I understand why he loves it so much. So many interesting things to learn, and at any time of the day (except when it’s time to clean the tank! 😅), you can have that sense of peace just watching them. So therapeutic!
I learned that it’s good for any fish to have a variety of food and not just the normal pellets. Giving them regular fresh source of protein is highly encouraged. It was hard to find live feed for my tiny fish community tank in my location. Local pet shops only had frozen ones. In my search to find a solution (thank you internet!), I tried hatching my own artemia (baby brine shrimp). Had fun doing this. I will also probably modify my hatching set-up because putting a tube on the side near the bottle neck didn’t reach the sunken eggs and I had to add an additional aerator inside. Will update in a few weeks if my baby brine shrimps have grown.

The Artemia die when I sieve them with the sieve, is that normal?
@thehobbyist_finds
@thehobbyist_finds 3 месяца назад
Some of them will die during the hatching process but if your batch of Artemia eggs doesn’t hatch mostly at all, it’s usually on the quality of the eggs bought. Some will put in the label that it has 80-90% hatching percentage. Some shops sell ones that have bad hatch rate so most don’t hatch or don’t last long when moved to fresh water. If you meant the live ones you harvested die soon, yes mostly they do after 2-4 days depending on the condition of water, temperature, aeration, population (overcrowding) and source of food. Their lifespan is about 3 months at most.

@@thehobbyist_finds how long the baby brine shrimp live after hatched?
@thehobbyist_finds
@thehobbyist_finds 11 месяцев назад
@JcSontinou About 2-3 days for feeding. I tried separating some to a different container after hatching to grow them to full-sized adult but so far, I could only keep for about 3 weeks- the longest. I’m not sure if they don’t last because it’s hard to maintain the salinity of the water or it’s the changing weather, or both.

what happens if i feed shrimp without filtering the eggs? Is it harmful for the fish?
@thehobbyist_finds
@thehobbyist_finds Год назад
Good question. I haven’t tried feeding them just the unhatched cysts/eggs. I’ve read a research on it before that feeding them unhatched eggs could damage their digestive tract. I’ll try to find that article and share it here. I suppose it would be the same if we eat egg shells instead of the eggs. They are of different composition.

Links are at the description box. I can’t leave a link from Shopee because these were sold within Thailand and may not be found in Shopee app in your country if you live overseas.

Hi, how many mesh for the eggs? And how many for the shrimp?
@thehobbyist_finds
@thehobbyist_finds Год назад
Hi, if you meant about the size of the mesh, size 80 to filter the shells, and around 200 to filter the hatched artemia. You need to put the filter for the shells above the filter mesh for the brine shrimps. Hope this helps.

Size of the mesh, if I’m not mistaken 80 for the ones that filter the shells (top) and about 200 (below) to filter the eggs.

hi, I bought it in a local shop here in Thailand (they don’t ship overseas). Found one on Amazon (link in the description) but they are currently out of stock. I suggest to ask pet/aquarium shops. Some of them don’t put it on the shelves (they hatch themselves) but maybe they can order for you.

Plant may die with sea salt
@thehobbyist_finds
@thehobbyist_finds Год назад
Hornwort plants can be for fresh and saltwater aquariums. They are one of the most versatile plants and they also grow so fast. I placed some there to help bloom more algae for the artemia to feed on as they grow.
