Hatching as Many Chicks as Possible! 

To All the people that are upset by giving an animal a good life and a quick peaceful death should never eat any chickens or eggs. The life they get at farms is so much better than any were else. We all need animal products.

What I most love is anticipating what the chicks will look like when chickens are allowed to cross-breed! The color patterns can be amazing!! Nothing like baby animals of any kind!

The idea of watching a living thing experience life for the first time is such a beautiful one, it made me tear up

Would've loved to seen you clean that room out. So satisfying seeing the cleaning process.

Years ago, when we had a flock of about 50.. we had two very friendly roosters.. run up and say hi rather than run up and try to kick. They were free range and got into everything.. one of them got his feet wound up in a string they dug out from somewhere. As soon as he saw me, he hopped over like he was saying.. excuse me ma'am.. could you get this off me? He sat quietly in my lap while I used scissors to cut him free. They were New Hampshire Reds.. very nice boys.

I gave my broody hen five hatching eggs and she hatched all of them! She is an amazing mother. Chicks are four weeks old and growing soooo fast.

I wonder how many people who object to slaughtering roosters prefer leather handbags and leather shoes instead of plastic? Very awesome presentation of humble flock&brood keeping! Terrific tutorial for those who might try raising up chicks...if honestly acquiring the turf to do so becomes possible.

A note that you said you can feed newborn chicks layer feed. Layer feed has high doses of calcium to ensure egg production and can cause kidney failure. I use all chick starter grower non medicated for my flock as chicks get mixed with adults eventually. Then once of age I migrate then to all layer food. Try not to give them layer food or may kill little chicks. Make sure to use non medicated when sharing feed with adult chicks which are laying

My grandfather raised chickens and turkeys for the black market in post natzi east Germany. He used chopped up hard boiled eggs and chopped up nettle. Turkey losses were costly so he took care of the little ones. I tried this on my own with all sorts of birds including wild turkeys. Lowest mortality rate ever!!!!!

Pablo is mellow as cats go, but all those baby birdies are just too much temptation!

How lucky you are that your chickens put themselves to bed the first night. My girls are over a year old and they are still making bad decisions and getting shut out of the coop.(we have an automatic door.) I might have a jerk chicken that blocks the coop door. Four out of the six got shut out tonight! It's a really good thing that they are good layers. Lol!

This past Easter, I wanted to buy a stewing hen to make chicken corn soup as part of my Easter feast. I ended up getting a rooster, all ready dressed, and it was incredible! Yeah, I don't like the idea of killing baby roosters after hatching, either.

Omg, Morgan, I have a funny quick story for you. I started this video with my breakfast and two minutes in I’m thinking to myself, gee Morgan sounds so groggy as if he was sick. My great grandfather retired onto a working farm renting the house while the owners let the locals that worked for them stay and work the farm. The only catch was if anyone named an animal it was a death sentence. So each Sunday my father would name a cockerel. I’m pretty sure it was a set thing between my great grandfather and him as a joke.

Went to the post office yesterday and could hear some little cheep cheeps coming from the back, lol.

I would not put whole dishes of grit in with new chicks. I have heard of people doing that and the chicks died because they filled up full of grit and didn't eat any food. personally I feed in long trough feeders and just put a couple pinches of grit sprinkled over the feed every day. When they are big enough to come off heat and go to a more open space outside I just put shovels of creeksand and gravel in the run space for their grit. It's multiple sizes and they can pick the size that's right for them. They are really cute.

To my uneducated eye, seems like you're giving your critters a good life as far as farm animals go. Yes, you will have to harvest some, but that's how life goes on a farm.

I use a Styrofoam Hovabator incubator without an egg turner. It comes with a fan for heat circulation though. After years of using it the thing is still working perfectly. I turn bird eggs 3-7 times a day full 180° depending on the species. Geckos, snakes, pheasants, and quail have been hatched out of that incubator and I've had about a 90% hatch rate for the bird eggs. I looove love it so if you have the time to turn eggs yourself consider trying that kind of incubator in the future if you are trying out new smaller ones for small project eggs

I agree, fatten up the roos, then invite them to dinner. Everything on the farm has a purpose. Chickens, it's meat and eggs.

You can also use a blender on the pellets to make scratch if you are in a pinch.
