I really wish they got further into the game so they could see how incredible it actually is and how twisted it can get and how sad it can get like i was legitimately crying by the end of Nageki's route and the end of the BBL route *spoiler* you give the doctor head... your head to be precise
*This comment will contain mild spoilers* This game is the very definition of "Don't judge a book(or visual novel) by its cover". If I was a teacher teaching this concept, I would show this game to my kids and say "What do you think this game is about" and they would probably say "A game about dating birds! Duh!" and I would be like "WRONG! IT'S A GAME ABOUT A DYSTOPIAN FUTURE WHERE BIRDS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE WORLD AND YOU ARE AN EXPERIMENT SPECIMEN. HAVE FUN NOT CRYING WHEN PLAYING THIS GAME!"
I earnestly want a revisit to this game since its re-release on PS4. Becky voice acting the main character and Fraser voicing the birds would be SO GOOD
Wow. I just finished watching another person's twitch stream of the whole game. Having seen the rest of the game, it's kind of funny seeing the gang try to understand this. I wonder if they ever realized how deep this game goes? Doubt they'd ever go back to it, since they've got a thousand and one other games to focus on, but it'd be cool seeing their reactions if they knew some of the secrets of this game.
I just love how at 23:44 it took Fraser and Ben a second longer to figure out that it was a real love interest, not just a drawn picture of the bird. xD
Ooookkkaayyy...Awhile back (maybe a year? I can't remember) I made a comment about hating the Persona series calling it pretentious...Well, I feel like I need to make a retraction of that statement. I've been making an attempt to know more about the Persona 4 PS2 game (Thanks Arc System Works for that fighting game collaboration, that kinda eased me into the setting) and honestly, it's kinda grown on me. Granted, it's still seems kinda on the nose with it's narrative themes (Friendship conquers all hardships!...Blah blah blah, we've heard all before) and the less said about that Japanese Anime fan service bullshit, the better...*ahem* Anyway, overall it still has it's awesome moments. The cast of characters is good, and they qualities to them that I appreciate. The story is nowhere near as pretentious and teeth-grindingly aggravating as Catherine, Atlus's other game was with it's story. I could rant about that more, but that's not relevant right now...Anyway, I just wish it wasn't an RPG that tried to do everything. I appreciate the fact it had a dating aspect to it, and that it had a thing where establishing friendships enhanced the summoning of stronger Persona characters, but the amount of customization is overwhelming. And some of the stuff can only be accessed after starting new game plus? Geez, that's a lot more then I'm committed for (At least with some of the stuff in PS Vita update from what I've heard)! Anyway, Persona 4 is definitely something you don't want to play in quick, rushing bursts. It's like tasting good wine; you need to savor it, not do it all at once. In fact, having an update on Vita might be it's biggest boon, due to it's portability. Still, if somebody is looking for a good, in-depth RPG with good turn base combat mechanics (or as I like to say, what Final Fantasy XIII should have been....Hiyo!), then this is definitely a worthy purchase. In fact, you can download the PS2 version of Persona 4 on PSN for those who don't have a PS Vita. While it's not my favorite RPG game ever, I understand why the hype is there now. Whoa sorry, didn't mean to write an essay, but I need to get this off my chest.
Because the chat helps with that. When they watched the trailer for Shin Megami Tensei vs (other IP I forgot the name) lots of people in the chat clarified what SMT is by saying it's basicaly Persona.
Man, it's like everyone is playing this game recently. :O I played it a year ago or so, then promptly forgot about it... and now it's popping up everywhere. My friends are playing it, the Yogscast played it, and now you guys are playing it. Popularity boom!
Fraser, this game really is worth a proper play through. The first part where you aren't making any decisions is just the introductions to all the characters you can court. After that you get to start making decisions that alter the game. I'm pretty sure you guys would end up loving this game if you didn't skip through the dialog.
Im happy they got it was a parody (and not just chalk it up to the craaaaazy japanese stereotype). Their confusion toward the beginning joke telling them that there is no voice acting so you of course have to imagine the voices had me worried for a sec
I love seeing those unfamiliar with the aesthetics of anime react to this kind of stuff. XD. They ARE stereotypes, which is incredibly common in dating sims and harm anime.
Yeah, if you guys really aim to judge any sort of media, even humorously, you should know that the very first Rule of Criticism is that you don't piss on something you obviously know nothing about. It's called a visual NOVEL for a reason. Honestly, this is no different than playing a traditional American game and calling it crap because YOU couldn't play it correctly.
I wouldn't be so hasty to judge. At first I thought this was a silly game, but when i began to actually get into it, I realized it was more than that. A LOT, and I mean a LOT of people judged the game from just the concept, because the game lured you in with this silly game concept. And honestly..... Who wouldn't make fun of a game where all the characters are birds in it, at least at the beginning. Besides, there is no "correct way" to play a game. Games are suppose to be fun, and it's the persons choice how they choose to play it C:
Okay, Fraser. You need to get the full version of this game, and pursue the doctor. I can't tell you why, but you have to do it. You won't be disappointed.
In order to persuade Fraser to play Persona 4, you must have Understanding of your limits, Knowledge to control your pace, Courage to face this unrelenting tide of cynicism, and the Diligence to persevere against this colossal challenge. All these traits are necessary to master the Rainy Day Special VGA Challenge!
I get what he is saying about persona, it always has atleast one or two overly mellowdramatic characters and is completely relient on basic anime tropes.
Ohhhh boy.. Just got to this video, haven't even started it yet, and we are having some pony drama in the chat.... Well.. I'm excited... I do love me some ponies.
I just realized... next Valentine's Day they should play Girl's Love Revolution. Actually, they should just play everything Angie Gallant has played. xD
He said that if you swapped in characters from MLP into where the pigeons were, it would retain its stupidity and its parody. Whats the difference between liking and thinking a a pigeon and a pony is awesome? 16:10 for those who want to see it
Okay, I literally just said that he doesn't single out My Little Pony. He makes fun of Sonic all the time for the same reasons he would make fun of My Little Pony (ie. he thinks all the fans are furries), he's made fun of Disney several times, and so on and so forth. He makes fun of everything, just at different times. And I know my comments sound really intolerant, but I'm not a patient person. Don't take it personally.
Frash Frash was right, the first time I saw everybirdie, my mind went to ponies. As much as I love the show, saying anypony IRL never ceases to sound stupid.
Yeah, it's still pretty creepy to find a cartoon character that's supposed to be between 12 and 16 years old (in human years) "sexy", whether they're a horse or a bird or a human. Especially when the character acts like a five year old (like that pink pony). It would be just as creepy as if someone said one of the Powerpuff Girls was sexy. They might have the voices of teenagers or adults, but they're still in kindergarten.
Actually, My Little Pony and this game are very similar, when you take into account the fact that the birds in this game are "humanized animals", just like the horses in My Little Pony are (i.e. they speak, they have developed personalities, they were designed to look "cute" and/or "appealing" in some humanizing way, they live and function in a human-like society etc), even when you leave out the "nobirdie"/"nopony" thing. The only big difference is that this game is romance-based.
when watching this live i totes squealed seeing this, let's agree, even with how insane and silly this is...it was the best game during the stream XD Okosan almost killed Fraser at 23:50, fits with the dark tone of the game xD
Fraser really should have thought about that one. Why choose a text-based game when he's sick and can't even read properly? Hatoful Boyfriend is a really fun game with interesting characters and a surprisingly dark and clever storyline. And it's not at all about "bird fucking" btw.
I'm sorry, are you saying this to me, or about Fraser? because he has already grouped all of the things you just mentioned with My Little Pony and each other in previous shows. As for me, I wasn't singling anything out, I was just mentioning the similarities. You don't need to be defensive or explain anything if you don't want to.
Well, another difference is that if you play Hatoful to completion, the storyline involves such things as government conspiracies, racism, murder, dismemberment, and necrophilia.
In fact, it doesn't exactly sound like all that in the show; considering one of the protagonists is a baby-dragon and yet he uses "everypony", and the ponies include him when they use "everypony" as well. Interestingly enough, our "everyone" is species neutral.
I remember that. During the Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem Trailer. And I know that's the problem The chat should not have said that. Shin Megami Tensei is not part dating. Persona was just a spin off. (Though I do enjoy Persona) Fraser if you ever do look at this comment Shin Megami Tensei and Persona are very different. Fire emblem is a bit like Xcom and I think you should try the Crossover when it comes out rather then dismissing it because of how little you know about the series.
Said it before and I'll say it again: Persona 4 fixes most of the bad things about its predecessor, and you don't even have to join a club or tutor a kid unless you want to. You actually don't need to do any social links at all unless you want to.
10:53 Gee, the game passively mentions America. I wonder if the chat is gonna let it slide. 11:15 Myrianthief: "'Murica!" Look, I like mocking patriotism as much as the next guy, but screaming "Murica" and "USA" every fucking time someone even utters the word "America" is just obnoxious.
Crappy disappointments AND a pony reference?! this is a great playthrough! Frasher needs to mention my little pony more often for me to thumb up his video
I have not seen the videos where Fraser has grouped all of these things, and if he did why does he single out MLP? I'm not really trying to be defensive, and I apologize if I come across that way, just trying to understand is all.
