I loved Hattie since the first time I saw Gone With The Wind , I saw the spirit one beautiful Human Being just like a caring mom and people I was just a kid 9 years old , I was just a child and as child I understood that was playing a role and I bet my life on it that no other actress could have played it better ! Notice that every time she in a scene she is like a magnet bigger than life character .

Didn't know she was raised in Denver. McDaniel was a trailblazer who succeeded in against all odds in a tough industry. Talk about racists, Walter White promoted "light-skinned" actresses over a woman whose work paved the way for their opportunities in Hollywood. Spike Lee's comments were a pleasant surprise. Thanks so much for doing this excellent biography.

I loved Hattie McDaniel because she wouldn't allow herself to be disrespected by neither whites nor blacks during a time when all blacks were stereotyped and abused by white folks ( mostly men) and black women were abused/disrespected by all men. All my love and respect to her and God bless her always.

I loved this woman & admire her life. The scene in Gone with the Wind was amazing when she told the story of the little girl’s death. She to me started out in the beginning of the film giving a brilliant performance & it just got better & better as she played her part. God was with her all her life she showed that God was first! 🥰♥️🥳

Back when Miss McDaniel was starting out, slaves and domestics were the only roles available to black actors. Hattie had a regal bearing and always managed to shine in her roles. Mammie was GWTW's heart and soul and smarter than most, if not all of the other characters. Offscreen, she worked tirelessly to improve opportunities for her peers.

Obviously a nice---looking woman. But her along Stephen Fetchit put black actors and actresses back for 25 years. Then along came Raisin In The Sun, Carmen, and the black and beautiful Sidney Poitier. Also she played a happy slave in Song Of The South.

@@TheOnyxQueenChannel I think Sidney had his own struggles and doors that he had to open. Not to dismiss the wins of Hattie McDaniels but he was going for the roles that nearly no one could imagine for a black man, not the subservient ones. Hattie was very conditioned to to not rock the boat, thinking these roles were a way of making it as long as a major film studio was behind her. In her own way, she did what she could to change the narrative but as long as it didn't make whites uncomfortable. Not very "door opening" especially during that time of racial tension. But otherwise, I think she's a great actor and deserved her Oscar. I am happy she was able to see great success and I applaud her efforts to black organizations.
